Effect of Strontium Carbonate Content on Flexural Strength of Clay-Based Membrane Supports

  • The effect of $SrCO_3$ content on the microstructure, porosity, flexural strength, and pore size distribution of clay-based membrane supports was investigated. Green compacts prepared from low cost materials such as kaolin, bentonite, talc, sodium borate, and strontium carbonate were sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ for 8 h in air. It was possible to control the porosity of the clay-based membrane supports within the range of 33% to 37% by adjusting the $SrCO_3$ content. The flexural strength of the clay-based membrane supports was found to strongly depend on their porosity. In turn, the porosity was affected by the $SrCO_3$ content. The average pore size and flexural strength of the clay-based membrane supports containing 4 wt% $SrCO_3$ were $0.62{\mu}m$ and 33 MPa at 34% porosity.

Performance Analysis of a Low-Depth Unit-Type Ground Heat Exchanger using Numerical Simulation (수치해석을 통한 저심도 유닛형 지중열교환기의 성능 검토)

  • Recently, ground source heat pump (GSHP) systems have attracted much attention, according to the enhanced social demand of renewable energy. GSHP systems can achieve higher coefficient of performance than the conventional air-source heat pump systems by utilizing stable underground temperature. However, the initial cost of GSHP system is higher than that of the conventional systems, especially, in the small-size buildings. Therefore, it is necessary to develop small-size ground heat exchanger with low cost and quick installation. In this study, a unit-type ground heat exchanger was developed and heat exchange rate was calculated by the numerical simulation. As a result, 27.45 W/m of heat exchange rate was acquired in the condition of $0.5m{\times}0.2m{\times}2m$ unit.

Hydrolytic Stability of Cured Urea-Melamine-Formaldehyde Resins Depending on Hydrolysis Conditions and Hardener Types

  • As a part of abating the formaldehyde emission of amino resin-bonded wood-based composite panels, this study was conducted to investigate hydrolytic stability of urea-melamine-formaldehyde (UMF) resin depending on various hydrolysis conditions and hardener types. Commercial UMF resin was cured and ground into a powdered form, and then hydrolyzed with hydrochloric acid. After the acid hydrolysis, the concentration of liberated formaldehyde in the hydrolyzed solution and mass loss of the cured UMF resins were determined to compare their hydrolytic stability. The hydrolysis of cured UMF resin increased with an increase in the acid concentration, time, and temperature and with a decrease in the smaller particle size. An optimum hydrolysis condition for the cured UMF resins was determined as $50^{\circ}C$, 90 minutes, 1.0 M hydrochloric acid and $250{\mu}m$ particle size. Hydrolysis of the UMF resin cured with different hardener types showed different degrees of the hydrolytic stability of cured UMF resins with a descending order of aluminum sulfate, ammonium chloride, and ammonium sulfate. The hydrolytic stability also decreased as the addition level of ammonium chloride increased. These results indicated that hardener types and level also had an impact on the hydrolytic stability of cured UMF resins.

Synthesis and Characterization of ZnAl2O4 Nanopowders by a Reverse Micelle Processing

  • Using reverse micelle processing, $ZnAl_2O_4$ nanopowders were synthesized from a mixed precursor(consisting of $Zn(NO_3)_2$ and $Al(NO_3)_3$). The $ZnAl_2O_4$ was prepared by mixing the aqueous solution at a molar ratio of Zn : Al = 1 : 2. The average size and distribution of the synthesized powders with heat treatment at $600^{\circ}C$ for 2 h were in the range of 10-20 nm and narrow, respectively. The average size of the synthesized powders increased with increasing water to surfactant molar ratio. The XRD diffraction patterns show that the phase of $ZnAl_2O_4$ was spinel(JCPDS No. 05-0669). The synthesized and calcined powders were characterized using a thermogravimetric - differential scanning calorimeter(TG-DSC), X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and high resolution transmission electron microscopy(HRTEM). The effects of the synthesis parameter, such as the molar ratio of water to surfactant, are discussed.

Maximum Ratio Transmission for Space-Polarization Division Multiple Access in Dual-Polarized MIMO System

  • The phenomena of higher channel cross polarization discrimination (XPD) is mainly observed for future wireless technologies such as small cell network and massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system. Therefore, utilization of high XPD is very important and space-polarization division multiple access (SPDMA) with dual-polarized MIMO system could be a suitable solution to high-speed transmission in high XPD environment as well as reduction of array size at base station (BS). By SPDMA with dual-polarized MIMO system, two parallel data signals can be transmitted by both vertically and horizontally polarized antennas to serve different mobile stations (MSs) simultaneously compare to conventional space division multiple access (SDMA) with single-polarized MIMO system. This paper analyzes the performance of SPDMA for maximum ratio transmission (MRT) in time division duplexing (TDD) system by proposed dual-polarized MIMO spatial channel model (SCM) compare to conventional SDMA. Simulation results indicate that how SPDMA utilizes the high XPD as the number of MS increases and SPDMA performs very close to conventional SDMA for same number of antenna elements but half size of the array at BS.

Dependence of CW Mode Locking on Resonator Mode Size in a Yb:YAG Laser Mode-Locked by a Semiconductor Saturable Absorber Mirror (반도체 포화 흡수체 반사경에 의해 모드 잠금된 Yb:YAG 레이저 출력의 공진기 모드 크기에 대한 의존성 연구)

  • We investigate the effect of laser-resonator mode size on the output of a Yb:YAG laser that is mode-locked by a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). We demonstrate that the smaller the product of the mode sizes at a SESAM and at a Yb:YAG crystal, the more stable the mode-locked output is. Also, we found numerically that there is a resonator length at which the mode-locked output occurs, regardless of the thermal lens effect of a Yb:YAG.

Breakage Index and Changes in Permeability of Bottom Ash for Use as Fill Material (성토재로의 활용을 위한 Bottom Ash의 파쇄지수 산정 및 투수계수 변화)

  • The objective of the this study is to find the breakage index and changes in permeability of Bottom ash from thermoelectric power plants in Korea. Bottom ash was crushed by compaction according to compaction energy from 0 to $1661.4\;kN/m^2$. The particle size distribution was estimated by sieve analysis. The various breakage indexes were used for analyzing the change in particle size distribution and effect of compaction energy. In the result, breakage indexes were increased as compaction energy and initial upper 4.75 mm diameter ratio, but values and tendencies of breakage indexes appeared in different as calculation method of breakage indexes. The coefficient of permeability was decreased with particle breakage, but decreasing ratio of permeability was very small. Bottom ash has a higher permeability than the weathered soil and it is considered high usability as a permeable materials.

Dividend Policy and Companies' Financial Performance

  • This study aims to determine the nature of the association between dividend policy and a corporation's financial performance in emerging countries, as well as the main variables that may have an effect on financial performance. The study included 92 industrial and service sector companies listed on the Amman Stock Exchange (ASE) during the period from 2015 to 2019. The study used Panel Data Analysis and cross-sectional time-series data and simple and multiple linear regression models. A multiple regression model was also developed in order to test whether guess factors may have a possible impact on financial performance (such as Dividend Yield, Dividend Pay-out Ratio, Firm Size, Leverage Ratio, Current Ratio). The data was collected from the annual reports and information that was available on the ASE website covering the period from 2015 to 2019. The results detect a strong relation between DY, DPR, and FSIZE variables that explain firm performance. Also leverage ratio is negatively and significantly associated with ROA and AOE. Moreover, no relations were detected between current ratio and financial performance. The study's conclusion is that dividend policy explains a lot of a company's financial performance, meaning that the dividend policy has a statistically significant impact on company financial performance.

A survey to study the wearing and purchasing of brassieres between Korean and Chinese women in their 20's (한국과 중국 20대 여성의 브래지어 착용 및 구매실태 조사)

  • The purpose of this study is to survey the wearing and purchasing situation related to brassieres between Korean and Chinese women and to analyze the differences among them. This study utilized a survey targeting 397 women in their 20's in Korea and China. The results were as follows: First, Korean women considered that their breasts are conical in shape, whereas Chinese women considered their breasts to have a flat shape. With regard to breast size, those of Chinese women are larger than those of Korean women. Moreover, Chinese women expressed a high rate of dissatisfaction with their breasts. Second, regarding the wearing condition of brassieres, while Korean women expected their brassiere to converge their breasts to the center, Chinese women expected their brassiere to support the breasts. It was found that many of them were dissatisfied with the shoulder straps and the center front wire. Third, in the results pertaining to the purchasing brassieres, although both Korean and Chinese Women mainly visited brand name stores to buy brassieres, compared with Chinese women, Korean women prefer to shop at home to buy the brassieres. In addition, they considered the compensation effect, size, activity, fabric and fit as the most important selection criteria when purchasing a brassiere.

Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Polyphosphate-Polyurethane Composite Foam Brown by H2O

  • Ammonium polyphosphate-polyurethane foam composite (APP-PUF) was prepared from poly(adipate)diol/ammonium polyphosphate composite (f = 2), polyether polyol (f = 4.6), and PMDI (f = 2.5). As a blowing agent, $H_2O$ was used at various concentrations. The thermal decomposition behavior, morphology, closed-cell content, and density of APP-PUF were characterized. At the $H_2O$ concentrations lower than 3.5 php, the cell size of pure polyurethane foams (PUF) and APP-PUFs were close each other. As the $H_2O$ concentration became greater than 5.0 php, the cell size of the PUFs greatly increased compared to that of APP-PUFs. Addition of 1.5~1.9 wt% ammonium polyphosphate to the PUFs greatly enhanced the thermal stability of the PUFs, so 50 wt% residual temperature of APP-PUFs increased to $380{\sim}488^{\circ}C$, which were $30{\sim}70^{\circ}C$ higher than those of the PUFs. Thermal stability of the PUFs and APP-PUFs increased with $H_2O$ content and then decreased once $H_2O$ content exceeded 5 php.
