An Optimal Procedure for Sizing and Siting of DGs and Smart Meters in Active Distribution Networks Considering Loss Reduction

  • The presence of responsive loads in the promising active distribution networks (ADNs) would definitely affect the power system problems such as distributed generations (DGs) studies. Hence, an optimal procedure is proposed herein which takes into account the simultaneous placement of DGs and smart meters (SMs) in ADNs. SMs are taken into consideration for the sake of successful implementing of demand response programs (DRPs) such as direct load control (DLC) with end-side consumers. Seeking to power loss minimization, the optimization procedure is tackled with genetic algorithm (GA) and tested thoroughly on 69-bus distribution test system. Different scenarios including variations in the number of DG units, adaptive power factor (APF) mode for DGs to support reactive power, and individual or simultaneous placing of DGs and SMs have been established and interrogated in depth. The obtained results certify the considerable effect of DRPs and APF mode in determining the optimal size and site of DGs to be connected in ADN resulting to the lowest value of power losses as well.

  • The present trend of increasing the penetration levels of Distributed Generator (DG) in the distribution network has made the issue of Islanding crucial for the reliable operation of the network. The islanding, if not detected early may lead to the collapse of the system as it can drive the distribution system to the cascaded failure. In this paper, an extensive study of the effect of DG placement and sizing is performed by dividing the system into different zones to obtain a reduced effect of islanding. The siting and sizing of DG is carried out to improve the overall voltage profile or/and reduction in active power loss using two stage Genetic Algorithm (GA). In the first stage a basic knockout selection is considered and the best population is taken for next stage, where roulette selection for crossover and mutation is performed for optimal placement and sizing of DGs. The effect of the islanding, due to load variations is reduced by optimal siting and sizing of DG. The effectiveness of the proposed scheme is tested on the IEEE 33 and 69 radial bus systems and the results obtained are promising.

  • 2008년 8월 국가에너지위원회는 제1차 국가에너지기본계획을 공표했다. 이 계획에 따르면 정부는 온실가스 저감, 에너지 안보 강화, 신성장 동력 육성 등을 위해 신 재생에너지의 비중을 2007년 2.4%에서 2030년 11%까지 높일 것이다. 이런 목표가 달성되려면 풍력, 태양광, 해양에너지, 바이오매스 등 재생가능 에너지 원별로 보급이 크게 확대되어야 한다. 2030년이면 태양광 발전 설비용량은 지금 보다 약 10배 증가한 3,504MW, 풍력발전은 설비용량은 지금 보다 약 12배 증가한 7,301MW에 이를 전망이다. 그러나 이런 보급 목표를 달성하기까지 여러 가지 장애와 난관이 존재한다. 극복해야 할 문제 중 하나가 재생가능 에너지 설비의 입지를 둘러싼 갈등 현상이다. 국내에선 태양광 발전소가 산지에 다수 들어서면서 산림 훼손 논란을 불러 일으키고 일부 지역에선 태양광 발전소 가동이 동 식물 피해를 유발한다는 민원까지 등장하면서 계획이 취소되거나 변경되는 사례가 발생하고 있다. 풍력 발전도 계획이나 시공 과정에서 환경영향을 둘러싼 갈등이 불거지면서 공사가 중단되거나 계획이 보류된 사례가 발생하고 있다. 현재의 제도와 여건에선 이런 갈등이 더욱 심화 증폭되어 중 장기적으로 신 재생에너지 보급 목표의 달성이 불투명해질 수 있다. 이 논문에선 국내 태양광 발전과 풍력 발전 시설의 입지와 운영 과정에서 발생한 갈등 사례를 분석하고 갈등 완화와 해소를 위한 정책적 시사점을 도출하고자 한다.

  • This study examines the Symbolic notions of Haein Buddhist Monastery based on the context of Feng-shui. Through the study, it is verified that the geographical features surrounding the Haein Buddhist Monastery are imbued with the basic layout of the monastery and the constitutional elements of the Haein Buddhist Monastery are structured and formed with the architecture and landscape of the monastery. Thus, the study maintains that the siting and the arrangement of the Haein Buddhist Monastery reflect the context of Feng-shui.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 인간 생태학적 조경계획의 이론적 배경과 계획과정을 살펴보고, 인간 생태학이라는 사회과학적 이론의 환경계획에의 적용 가능성및 필요성을 밝히고자 함에 있다. 인간의 건강과 복지가 인간 생태학적 조경계획의 지침으로 제시되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 Philadelphia와 New York의 교외에 위치한 Upper Makefield Township 주민들의 정주유형 (Settlement Patterns), 활동유형(Activity Patterns), 이용자유형(User Patterns), 인간생태학적 소구역(Human Ecological Subregion)의 구분 및 정주기준(Siting Criteria)등을 조사 연구한 후 이들의 상호관계를 밝혀 계획가들에게 인간생태계의 이해를 도모하고자 하였다.

PROBABILISTIC APPROACH ON SEISMOGENIC POTENTIAL OF A FAULT

  • Siting criteria for nuclear power plants require that faults be characterized as to their potential for generating earthquakes, or that the absence of the potential for these occurrences be demonstrated. Because the definition of active faults in Korea has been applied by the deterministic method, which depends on the numerical age of fault movement, the possibility of inherent uncertainties exists in determining the maximum earthquake from the fault sources for seismic design. In an attempt to overcome these problems this study suggests new criteria and a probabilistic quantitative diagnostic procedure that could estimate whether a fault is capable of generating earthquakes in the near future.

  • The text describes an author's column presented in a local newspaper, which includes the private warmest sentiments on the people and hometown, sending a message to try to cause the peopleinduce that project to their district, known as one of the candidates. Since in 1986, the siting work for a potential district of the RDF(Radwaste Disposal Facility) Project Center in Korea has been struggled for almost 20 years. Unfortunately, the final district could not be fixed yet. So, during last tow years, author has been personally endeavored to do all activities in concern with that work as a pioneer and experienced in that field.

  • A planetary boundary layer model has been modified to study the feasibility of siting the wind energy conversion systems over Jejudo island. Our objective is to demonstrate a numerical model that is simple enough to be economical in terms of computational cost and contains most of the mesoscale processes occurring in the planetary boundary layer at the same time. Simulated fields of atmospheric parameters are compared favorably with available climatological data and interpreted in terms of physical phenomena occurring.

  • 이희범 산업자원부장관은 지난달 6월 24일 강현욱 전북지사를 만났다. 전라북도 보도 자료(1)에 따르면, 두 사람은 거기서 두통거리 국책사업인 '원전센터' 부지 선정에 대한 얘기들을 주고받았다. 한쪽은 사업추진 주체의 장이요, 다른 한쪽은 부안사태가 일어났던 광역단체의 장이라 둘 사이에서 오간 대담들은 세간의 이목을 끌만한 뉴스 거리였다. 하지만, 중앙일간지들은 애써 보도를 자제했다. "참새들은 방앗간을 그대로 지나치지 않는 법인데....", 무슨 사정이 있었을까? 둘은 하소연하듯, 각자 그 문제를 자기 방식대로 풀려고 했을지도 모른다. 보도자료 틈새에서 느낄 낌새는 문제로 안겨진다. (중략)

  • Before GBAS ground systems is installed at the airport, the site survey is needed to determine the suitability of proposed GBAS candidate sites depending on the siting requirements. Therefore, analysis of GPS signal reception environment, one of the site survey steps, is required. In this paper, the number of visible satellites, GPS signal strength, multipath error, radio frequency interference and predicted availability were analyzed using the GPS data of Gimpo International Airport measured by PortaSAT equipments and the analysis results were represented.
