  • Generally, search engine summarizes the main contents of the search results so that user can click the site providing the information of the contents to search first. In this study, we demonstrated whether the user clicks on the search results based on the summary content provided by the search engine or on the order of the search result placement through empirical studies through the presentation of search results. By using the API provided by the search engine company, a search site that presents the search results in a regular and inverse order is created, and the click action of each user's search result is displayed in the order of actual click order, click position, and the user's search type such as the route of movement. As a result of the analysis, most users account for more than 60% of users who click on the first and second exposed search results regardless of the search results. It is confirmed that the search priority of users is determined according to the order of search results regardless of the summary of search results.

  • The real time movement of the caisson was measured when it was open to the waves during breakwater construction. As a result of measurement, no more settlement after the preloading in condition of designed loading was expected but sudden abnormal settlement took place through whole area of the breakwater when waves occurred by typhoon effect. To clarify the reason of this case, wave of the site has been reproduced and the equivalent wave pressure on the caisson was calculated. The numerical analysis of the effect of wave to the ground had been done. Site measurement data is in accordance with the result of numerical analysis.

  • Background and Objectives: The present study aims to investigate whether the cochlear implant electrode array design affects the electrophysiological and psychophysical measures. Subjects and Methods: Eighty five ears were used as data in this retrospective study. They were divided into two groups by the electrode array design: lateral wall type (LW) and perimodiolar type (PM). The electrode site was divided into three regions (basal, medial, apical). The evoked compound action potential (ECAP) threshold, T level, C level, dynamic range (DR), and aided air conduction threshold were measured. Results: The ECAP threshold was lower for the PM than for the LW, and decreased as the electrode site was closer to the apical region. The T level was lower for the PM than for the LW, and was lower on the apical region than on the other regions. The C level on the basal region was lower for the PM than for the LW whereas the C level was lower on the apical region than on the other regions. The DRs on the apical region was greater for the PM than for the LW whereas the DR was narrower on the apical region than on the other regions. The aided air conduction threshold was not different for the electrode design and frequency. Conclusions: The current study would support the advantages of the PM over the LW in that the PM had the lower current level and greater DR, which could result in more localized neural stimulation and reduced power consumption.

  • Two ${\beta}$-1,4-glucanases (DI and DIII fractions) were purified to homogeneity from the culture filtrate of a cellulolytic bacteria, Cellulomonas sp. CS 1-1, which was classified as a novel species belonging to Cellulomonas uda based on chemotaxanomic and phylogenetic analyses. The molecular mass was estimated as 50,000 Da and 52,000 Da for DI and DIII, respectively. Moreover, DIII was identified as a glycoprotein with a pI of 3.8, and DI was identified as a non-glycoprotein with a pI of 5.3. When comparing the ratio of the CMC-saccharifying activity and CMC-liquefying activity, DI exhibited a steep slope, characteristic of an endoglucanase, whereas DIII exhibited a low slope, characteristic of an exoglucanase. The substrate specificity of the purified enzymes revealed that DI efficiently hydrolyzed CMC as well as xylan, whereas DIII exhibited a high activity on microcrystalline celluloses, such as Sigmacells. A comparison of the hydrolysis patterns for pNP-glucosides (DP 2-5) using an HPLC analysis demonstrated that the halosidic bond 3 from the nonreducing end was the preferential cleavage site for DI, whereas bond 2, from which the cellobiose unit is split off, was the preferential cleavage site for DIII. The partial N-terminal amino acid sequences for the purified enzymes were $^1Ala-Gly-Ser-Thr-Leu-Gln-Ala-Ala-Ala-Ser-Glu-Ser-Gly-Arg-Tyr^{15}$-for DI and $^1Ala-Asp-Ser-Asp-Phe-Asn-Leu-Tyr-Val-Ala-Glu-Asn-Ala-Met-Lys^{15}$-for DIII. The apparent sequences exhibited high sequence similarities with other bacterial ${\beta}$-1,4-glucanases as well as ${\beta}$-1,4-xylanases.

  • The effect of Protox expression site on herbicidal resistance was investigated in wild-type and transgenic rice plants imposed by peroxidizing herbicide oxyfluorfen. The transgenic rice systems involved the plastidal expression of Arabidopsis protoporphyrinogen oxidase (Protox; AP line) and the dual expression of Myxococcus xanthus Protox in chloroplasts and mitochondria (TTS line). The oxyfluorfen-treated TTS4 line showed the lower levels of cellular leakage and malonyldialdehyde and the sustained capacity of 5-aminolevulinic acid synthesis, compared to the oxyfluorfen-treated AP and wild-type lines. During oxyfluorfen action, the TTS4 line had greater herbicide resistance than the AP1 line, indicating that the dual expression of M. xanthus Protox in chloroplasts and mitochondria prevented the accumulation of photodynamic protoporphyrin IX more effectively than the expression of Arabidopsis Protox only in chloroplasts. These results suggest that the ectopic expression of Protox in mitochondria greatly contributes to the herbicidal resistance in rice plants.

  • The physical tooth movement by orthodontic force is based upon alveolar bone resorption at compression site and new bone formation at tension site of the alveolar socket. The function of the cyclic AMP is to participate not only in initial action of bone cells by mechanical forces but also in the continuous cellular response leading to bone remodelling. This experiment was performed to clarify the role of cyclic AMP in bone remodelling by mechanical force in the NORMAL group, the DIABETES group and the INSULIN TREATED group. The 72 rats were divided into the NORMAL group, the DIABETES group and the INSULIN TREATED group. The same orthodontic forces were applied to the rats of 3 groups. These rats were treated for periods of time ranging from 1 hour, 1 day, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days. The samples of alveolar bones were obtained from compression and tension sites surrounding the tipping teeth from NORMAL, DIABETE and INSULIN TREATED rats. The samples were assayed for cyclic AMP by the cyclic AMP RIA kit. The results were as follows: 1. The cyclic AMP levels of alveolar bone in compression and tension sites showed initial decrease, then increased and .remained elevated by the time consuming. 2. The highest cyclic AMP level showed in the DIABETES group and the lowest level was in the NORMAL group. 3. The cyclic AMP levels in the INSULIN TREATED group was similar with the NORMAL group in control and tension sites, but in the compression sites it was similar with the DIABETES group.
