Purpose: We performed this study retrospectively to evaluate local control, survival, prognostic factors, and failure patterns in patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of Waldeyer's ring. Materials and Methods: From April 1984 to November 1996,41 patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of Waldeyer's ring were treated with combined chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Age was ranged from 19 to 73 years old with a median age of 55 years, and there were 26 male and 15 female patients. Primary site was tonsil in 26 and base of the tongue in 7 and nasopharynx in 8, and stage distribution showed stage I in 12 and stage II in 29 patients. Pathologic classification was done according to Working Formulation. There were 1 with follicular mixed small cleaved and large cell, 8 with diffuse small cleaved cell, 7 with diffuse mixed small and large cell, and 25 cases with diffuse large cell. All patients were treated with combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Chemotherapy regimen consisted of either CHOP-Bleo(cyclophosphamide, adriamycin, vincristine, prednisolone, bleomycin) or COP-BLAM III(cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisolone, bleomycin, adriamycin, procarbazine). Radiation dose ranged from 3600cGy to 6620cGy with a median dose of 5040cGy. Follow-up time was ranged from 15 months to 159 months(median 55 months). Results: The complete response was achieved in 98%(40/41) and partial response in 2%(1/41). The complete response rate were the followings: 66.7% for stage I and 51.7% for stage II after chemotherapy, 100% for stage I and 96.6% for stage II after overall treatment respectively. The overall survival rate and disease-tree survival rates at 5 years were 82.6% and 79.5%, respectively. Prognostic factors for overall survival were age(p=0.007), stage(p=0.03), nodal status(p=0.006) and radiation dose(p=0.003). The factors associated with disease-tree survival were stage(p=0.04), nodal status(p=0.004) and radiation dose(p=0.009). The failure patterns were analized in evaluable 35 patients with complete response. Locoregional failure was noted in 2 patients and distant metastasis in 5 patients. Conclusion: Our results suggest that combined modality therapy is the appropriate treatment for stage I-II intermediate grade non-hodgkin's lymphoma of the Waldeyer's ring. However, our material is small and the analysis is retrospective. Randomized prospective studies for combined therapy, radiation therapy alone and chemotherapy alone are needed.
Locally advanced cervical carcinoma has shown high rate of local failure and poor survival rate despite the advances in modern radiation therapy techniques. Combination of chemotherapy and radiation therapy demonstrated benefit in improving local control and possibly the overall survival. Twelve patients with advanced stages (Figo stage III, IV) or 11b with bulky tumors (>5 cm in diameter) were treated with combination of radiation therapy and concurrent weekly cisplatin between May of 1988 and September of 1991 at Inje University Paik Hospital. Cisplatin was administered in bolus injections of 50 mg at weekly intervals during the courses of radiation therapy. Median follow-up period was 34 months with ranges from 3 to 53 months. Eleven patients were evaluable for the estimation of response. Response was noted in all the 11 patients: complete response (CR) in 7 ($64\%$), partial response (PR) in 4 ($36\%$). Of the 7 patients with CR, all maintained local control, whereas only 1 of 4 with PR showed local control. Six of 7 with CR are alive disease free on the completion of follow-up. Eight of 11 patients ($73\%$) maintained local control in the pelvis. The median survival for CR patient is 27 months and 9 months for the PR patients. Analysis of survival by stage shows 11 b 4/5, III 2/3 and IV 1/3. Overall survival rate was $61\%$. Three patients recurred: 1 at local, 1 in distant site and 1 with local and distant site. Toxicity for the combination therapy was not excessive. These results are preliminary, but definitely encouraging in view of markedly improved response rate compared with the results of historical control group.
The objective of BMP( Barge Mounted Plant) project is to construct plants on mooring floating structures at sea. To analyze the pile behavior under mooring dolphins, generally, axial or lateral behavior of soil-pile system is evaluated by using a nonlinear subgrade reaction method which models the pile as a structural element and the soil as series of nonlinear springs along the depth. As a result, load-displacement curves at pile head can be solved by finite difference method and the equivalent stiffness of bottom boundaries of dolphin structure is evaluated. In this study off-shore site investigation was performed on the marine area of Koje Island and axial and lateral load transfer curves of the ground were modeled with depth. The subgrade reaction analysis was performed for piles under axial or lateral loadings, and the required penetration depth and section of the pile were determined. Subsequently, the spring boundaries under the dolphin structure could be modeled from the calculated load-displacement curve and then the dynamic response of the dolphin structure was analyzed reasonably by considering ground conditions. The analysis considering the stiffness of the soil-pile system has resulted in larger displacement amplitudes than those for rigid foundations. Furthermore, moment distributions of the casing were dependent on the soil-pile system so that deformable foundation induces the larger moment of top section of casing and the smaller moment of pile head.

In evaluation of blast-induced vibration, peak particle velocity (PPV) is generally calculated by using attenuation relation curve. Calculated velocity is compared with the value in legal requirements or the standards to determine the stability. Attenuation relation curve varies depending on frequency of test blasting, geological structure of the site and blasting condition, so it is difficult to predict accurately using such an equation. Since PPV is response value from the ground, direct evaluation of the structure is impractical. Because of such a limit, engineers tend to use the commercial numerical analysis program in evaluating the stability of the structure more accurately. However, when simulate the explosion process using existing numerical analysis program, it's never easy to accurately simulate the complex conditions (fracture, crushing, cracks and plastic deformation) around blasting hole. For simulating such a process, the range for modelling will be limited due to the maximum node count and it requires extended calculation time as well. Thus, this study is intended to simulate the elastic energy after fractured zone only, instead of simulating the complex conditions of the rock that results from the blast, and the analysis of response characteristics of the velocity depending on shape and size of the fractured zone was conducted. As a result, difference in velocity and attenuation character were calculated depending on fractured zone around the blast source appeared. Propagation of vibration tended to spread spherically as it is distanced farther from the blast source.

Recently, a number of wind turbines are being installed due to the increase of interest in renewable, environment-friendly energy. Especially, an offshore wind turbine is being watched with keen interest in that it has no difficulty in securing a site and can get high quality of wind, as compared with a wind turbine on land. The offshore wind turbine is transferred to and installed on the site by an offshore floating crane after it was made in a factory on land such as shipyard. At this time, it is important to secure the safety of the turbine because of its huge size and expensive cost. Thus, a dynamic analysis of the offshore wind turbine which is connedted with the offshore floating crane was performed based on the multibody systems dynamics in this study. As a result. it is shown that the analysis can be applied to verify the safety of a method for the transportation and installation of the offshore wind turbine suspended by the crane.
This study examines how television news constructed an issue of social conflict between nationwide and local broadcasting. Especially, this study focused on new ariport of east-south region in Korea. To do this, this study conducted frame analysis on KBS, MBC, SBS main news including national and local ones, broadcasted from 1 January, 2011 to 15 April, 2011. In addition, frame analysis was divided into two aspects, formal and substance. As a result, the findings are as follow: First, in formal aspect both national and local broadcastings are dealing with episode style news frames, while subject style is just 7.5%. Second, in substance aspect, 6 categories are founded: site decision frame, competition and conflict frame, economic frame, rescission and response frame, government countermeasure and alternative frame, etc frame. In conclusion, national and local broadcasting television news have different perspective each other on defining an issues of social conflict like east-south new airport.

RSH (relA/spoT homolog) has been known to determine the level of guanosine tetraphosphate (ppGpp) and guanosine pentaphosphate (pppGpp), which are the effector nucleotide of the prokaryotic stringent response and also play a role in antibiotic production and differentiation in Streptomyces species but not a little in eukaryotic organism, especially in plant. Salicylic acid (SA), a critical signal molecule of establishing systemic acquired resistance (SAR), could induce SAR in Pepper (Capcicum annuum) against Phytophthora capsici. And the extent of SAR induction was in proportion to the dosage of SA (or BTH). Suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH), a PCR-based method for cDNA subtraction, was carried out between SA-treated and non-SA-treated pepper leaves to isolate genes which may be responsible for defense signaling against pathogens. Early upregulated gene was selected from reverse northern and kinetics of SSH-genes transcripts in SA-treated pepper leaves upon SA treatment. Full-length cDNA of the gene (PepRSH; Pepper RelA / SpoT homolog) had an open reading frame (ORF) of 2166 bp encoding a protein of 722 amino acids and a significant homology with (p)ppGpp phosphohydrolase or synthetase. Genomic DNA gel blot analysis showed that pepper genome has at least single copy of PepRSH. PepRSH transcripts was very low in untreated pepper leaves but strongly induced by SA and methyljasmonic acid (MeJA), indicating that PepRSH may share common SA and MeJA-mediated signal transduction pathway Functional analysis in E. coli showed PepRSH confers phenotypes associated with (p)ppGpp synthesis through a complementation using active site mutagenesis.

Functional feeding groups (FFGs) of benthic macroinvertebrates are guilds of invertebrate taxa that obtain food in similar ways, regardless of their taxonomic affinities. They can represent a heterogeneous assemblage of benthic fauna and may indicate disturbances of their habitats. The proportion of different groups can change in response to disturbances that affect the food base of the system, thereby offering a means of assessing disruption of ecosystem functioning. In this study, we used benthic macroinvertebrate communities collected at 650 sites of 23 different water types in the province of Overijssel, The Netherlands. Physical and chemical environmental factors were measured at each sampling site. Each taxon was assigned to its corresponding FFG based on its food resources. A multilayer perceptron (MLP) using a backpropagation algorithm, a supervised artificial neural network, was applied to evaluate the influence of environmental variables to the FFGs of benthic macroinvertebrates through a sensitivity analysis. In the evaluation of input variables, the sensitivity analysis with partial derivatives demonstrates the relative importance of influential environmental variables on the FFG, showing that different variables influence the FFG in various ways. Collector-filterers and shredders were mainly influenced by $Ca^{2+}$ and width of the streams, and scrapers were influenced mostly with $Ca^{2+}$ and depth, and predators were by depth and pH. $Ca^{2+}$ and depth displayed relatively high influence on all four FFGs, while some variables such as pH, %gravel, %silt, and %bank affected specific groups. This approach can help to characterize community structure and to ecologically assess target ecosystems.
By using a simple conceptual model, a sensitivity analysis is performed to examine the effects of changing model parameters on the model outputs, the groundwater discharge and the radius of influence, induced by tunnel construction. The results indicate that the model outputs are most sensitive to the tunnel depth and the hydraulic conductivity, and their sensitivities vary with time. It is also revealed that the sensitivity of the specific yield in- creases constantly with time, and therefore it is as important as the hydraulic conductivity for constructing a wet-system tunnel. A transient model is suggested to simulate the stepwise tunnel excavation and the watertight lining. The model is used for a tunnel construction site to predict groundwater mow into the tunnel and the transient response of the surrounding aquifer system. The predicted results are highly sensitive to the hydraulic conductivites assigned by model calibration. Thus, a postaudit should be made to reduce the uncertainty of the predictive model.
This study presents the effects of the spatial variation of ground motions in a hard rock site on the seismic responses of a base-isolated nuclear power plant (BI-NPP). Three structural models were studied for the BI-NPP supported by different number of lead rubber bearing (LRB) base isolators with different base mat dimensions. The seismic responses of the BI-NPP were analyzed and investigated under the uniform and spatial varying excitation of El Centro ground motion. In addition, the rotational degrees of freedom (DOFs) of the base mat nodes were taken to consider the flexural behavior of the base mat on the seismic responses under both uniform and spatial varying excitation. Finally, the seismic response results for all the analysis cases of the BI-NPP were investigated in terms of the vibration periods and mode shapes, lateral displacements, and base shear forces. The analysis results indicate that: (1) considering the flexural behavior of the base mat has a negligible effect on the lateral displacements of base isolators regardless of the number of the isolators or the type of excitation used; (2) considering the spatial variation of ground motions has a substantial influence on the lateral displacements of base isolators and the NPP stick model; (3) the ground motion spatial variation effect is more prominent on lateral displacements than base shear forces, particularly with increasing numbers of base isolators and neglecting flexural behavior of the base mat.
