  • A cylindrical permanent magnet inside the four-phase permanent magnet (PM) stepping motor is employed as the rotor. The stator has four teeth around, which its coils are wound. The mode of excitation can be classified into 3 modes: single-phase excitation, two-phase excitation and ministep excitation. The ministep drive is a method to subdivide one step into several small steps by means of electronics. The paper presents the programmable ministep technique drive. This technique decodes the results obtained from the counter to locate the data in Read Only Memory (ROM). The Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) is transformed to binary file and saved to the ROM. The experiment is performed with the four-phase PM stepping motor and drives from a two-phase programmable sinusoidal ministep signal, instead of square wave. The results show that the performances of the proposed programmable ministep technique drive have high efficiency, smooth step motion, and high speed response. Moreover, the resolution of sinusoidal ministep signal can be controlled by the input frequency (f command).

  • This paper deals with the exact solution of surface gravity waves in an ocean with irregular bed topography. In order to obtain water surface elevation and run-up of infra-gravity waves when the bed is either wavy or exponential, closed form solutions are obtained. Numerical computations indicate that when solitary wave or sinusoidal wave conditions are applied at the boundary, water surface elevation attains near Gaussian profile.

  • BLDC motors are getting better performance due to the improvement of material technology including high performance of permanent magnets, advancement of driving IC technology with high integration and high functionality, and improvement of assembly technology such as high point ratio. While having the advantage of such a square wave driven BLDC motor, interest in the design and development of a square wave driven BLDC permanent magnet motor and development of a position detection circuit and driver is increasing in order to more meet the needs of users. However, in spite of the cost and functional advantages due to reduced efficiency, switching loss and vibration, noise, etc., the application is somewhat limited. Therefore, in this paper, we study a position detection circuit that generates a sinusoidal signal in proportion to the magnetic flux of a BLDC motor rotor using a Hall Effect Sensor that generates a sinusoidal wave to increase the efficiency of the motor, reduce ripple, and drive a sinusoidal current with excellent speed and torque characteristics.

  • In this paper the low cost sensorless control circuit for a PM synchronous motor without the mechanical rotor position sensors is presented. The sensorless control algorithm and position detection circuit for the sinusoidal current wave drive is more complex than that of the rectangular current wave drive. The proposed position sensing circuit is composed of an operational amplifier and several passive elements. The design procedures for getting the optimal parameters for the position sensing circuit are presented. The performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through the simulations and experiments.

  • We fabricated and characterized an optical delay line for optical coherence tomography (OCT). The delay line was composed of a cylindrical piezoelectric transduce (PZT) and a single mode optical fiber. The OCT system used a duplex scanning optical delay line which was symmetrically driven in the reference and sample arms. We showed that the sinusoidal-wave was superior to a triangular-wave for driving the optical delay line for scanning depth and repeatability.

  • This paper shows the Design and implementation of sinusoidal BLDC motor drive logic using SVPWM method with FPGA. Sinusoidal BLDC motor driver logic consists of sine-wave PWM generator, dead-time and lead angle control logic. PWM generator logic is designed using SVPWM method for increase of 15.5% linear domain than general sine-wave PWM. This logic is verified and implemented using Spartan-6 FPGA Board. Test results show that THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) of motor-driving current is 19.2% and rotor position resolution is 1.6 degree.

  • In PWM inverters used in traction motor drive systems, the switching frequency is restricted by their large power capacity and thus the electromagnetic acoustic noise is generated. To reduce such an audible noise, the new MRSF-PWM(Modified Random Switching Frequency PWM) method is proposed. In the Proposed MRSF-PWM method, both triangular wave and sawtooth wave are used together as carrier waves for harmonic diffusion and reference wave is generated by injecting 3rd harmonic into the stone wave to expand the linear control region of output voltages. To verify the validity of the proposed MRSF-PWM method, computer simulations are carried out. And the results show that the MRSF-PWM method is more excellent than other RPWM methods in the aspects of both linearity and harmonic diffusion md more effective than SPWM(Sinusoidal PWM) method for the reduction of an audible noise.

  • In PWM inverter fed traction motor drive systems, the switching frequency is restricted and thus the electromagnetic acoustic noise is generated. To reduce such an audible noise, we propose the modified RSF(Randomized Switching Frequency)-PWM method. In the proposed RSF-PWM method, both triangular wave and sawtooth wave are used in one period as carrier waves. Because the proposed method has inherently the same property as sinusoidal PWM method, there is no problem of linearity. To verify the validity of the modified RSF-PWM method, computer simulations are carried out.

  • This paper describes Sinusoidal Wave-Variable Voltage Variable Fequency (SW-VVVF) system for the high efficiency drive of a 3-phase induction motor. SW-VVVF system consists of a 3-phase 24-pulse converter and a SPWM inverter. The converter with additional 2 tap diode circuits in interphase reactor reduces harmonics in input current. The SPWM inverter consists of an improved PLL system and a V/F controller, which reduces harmonics in output current and performs a high efficiency algorithm by maintaining a constant slip frequency and compensating for the velocity variation of the induction motor with the change of load. Therefore, this system reduces harmonics in input and output currents, and also can drive an induction motor with high efficiency in an economical way. We have proved its utility through experiment.

  • In hysteresis simulation, the Preisach model is most widely used as the reliability. However, since the first-order transition curves used in the conventional Preisach model are very inconvenient for actual measurement, many researches have been made to simplify them. In this study, the minor loops obtained along the initial magnetization curve are used to obtain the Everett function used in the Preisach model. In other words, The Everett table is constructed by using the minor loops, and are applied to the magnetization dependent Preisach model to reconstruct the Everett table. In order to minimize the error, the spline interpolation method is used to complete the final Everett table and the hysteresis loop simulation is performed with the Everett table. Furthermore, it is applied to the inductor analysis to perform not only sinusoidal wave and square wave drive but also PWM wave drive considering hysteresis. The validity of the proposed method is confirmed by comparison with simulation and experiment.
