A Study on the Mechanical Properties Based on Frit Addition in 3Y-TZP Zirconia Composition (3Y-TZP Zirconia 조성에서 Frit의 첨가에 의한 기계적 특성 연구)

  • This study was to add crushed frit with different grain sizes to 3Y-TZP so that it could determine the mechanical properties depending on sintering temperature. In this study, 3 types specimens were prepared in powder with respective additions of 20wt.% frit, which was sized through 24-, 48- and 72-hour ball milling with zirconia. Then, sintered pellets were tested in experiments under the temperature variations for different compositions. As a result, this study came to the following findings: 1. It was found that the higher sintering temperature and the longer ball milling time of frit led to the higher sintered density. 2. Bending strength tended to increase with higher sintering temperature and longer ball milling time of frit. 3. Hardness tended to increase with higher sintering temperature and longer ball milling time of frit. 4. However, it was found that fracture toughness didn't vary significantly depending on sintering temperature. From these findings, it was concluded that the smaller frit grain size and the narrower particle size distribution of frit lead to the better mechanical properties.

Effects of Fluoride Additions on Sintering and Microwave Dielectric Properties of CaWO$_4$ (Fluoride 첨가에 따른 CaWO$_4$의 소결 및 고주파 유전특성)

  • In this study, development of a new LTCC material using a non-glassy system was attempted with respect to reducing the fabrication process steps and cost down. Lowering the sintering temperature can be achieved by liquid phase sintering. For LTCC application, the starting material must have quality factor as high as possible in microwave frequency range. And also, the material should have a low dielectric constant for enhancing the signal propagation speed. Regarding these factors, dielectric constants of various materials were estimated by the Clausius-Mosotti equation. Among them, CaWO$_4$ was tamed out the suitable LTCC material. CaWO$_4$ can be sintered up to 98% of full density at 1200$^{\circ}C$ for 3 hours. It's measured dielectric constant, quality factor, and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 10.15, 62880GHz, and -27.8ppm/$^{\circ}C$, respectively. In order to modify the dielectric properties and densification temperature, 0.5∼1.5 wt% LiF were added to CaWO$_4$. LiF addition reduced the sintering temperature/time down to 800$^{\circ}C$/10∼30min due to the reactive liquid phase sintering. Dielectric constant lowered from 10.15 to 9.38 and Q x fo increased up to 92000GHz with increasing LiF content.

  • Effect The effect of sintering additives ($SiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, Clay) on the mechanical characteristics of sintered zircon was investigated. 1 vol% of additives in zircon powder was was sintered at $120{\sim}1500^{\circ}C$, the mechanical characteristics were measured, and microstructure analysis were was conducted. $Al_2O_3$ and clay additions increase the formation of monoclinic and tetragonal-$ZrO_2$ formation. An addition of SiO2 addition suppressed the formation of tetragonal-$ZrO_2$ formation., The A specimen sintered at $1400^{\circ}C$ showed the a density of $4.05\;g/cm^3$ and the a microhardness of 1120 HV, respectively.

  • A new type of low voltage driven SrTiO3 varistor was investigated. $SrTi3_3$ sintered with CuO-SiO2 additions, the sintering temperature was reduced to 1250-1300C. With the sintering additives, the semiconducting SrTi03 was able to fabricate single time sintering in reducing atmosphere(95% N2 + 5% H2), The non-linear coefficient value was 10.3 and the operating voltage was about 7 V.

  • The effect of Co addition on the electrochemical performance and structural stability of porous Ni anode for molten carbonate fuel cell(MCFC) was evaluated by the anodic polarization and the sintering test in the simulated MCFC anode condition ($650^{\circ}C$, 80% $H_2$+20%$CO_2$). The anode current density ranged from 110mA/$cm^2$ to 144mA/$cm^2$ was obtained at +100mV overpotential by additions of Co up to 10 wt.%. The sintering resistance of Ni-Co anodes was higher than that of the pure Ni anode. The increase of sintering resistance seemed to be to the lower diffusion coefficient of Co than that of Ni.

  • The present study examines the sintering behaviour and effect of manganese addition both mechanically-blended and mechanically alloyed on Cr-Mo low alloyed steels to enhance the mechanical properties. Mn sublimation during sintering provides some specific phenomena which facilitate the sintering of alloying elements with high oxygen affinity. First step is the optimization of milling time to attain a master alloy with 50% of Mn which is diluted in Fe-1.5Cr-0.2Mo water atomized prealloyed powder by normal mixing. These mixtures are pressed to a green density of $7.1g/cm^3$ and sintered at $1120^{\circ}C$ in $90N_2-10H_2$ atmosphere.

  • The effect of chemical composition of the sintering atmosphere on density, microstructure and mechanical properties of Fe-3%Mn-(Cr)-(Mo)-0.3%C steels is described. Pre-alloyed Astaloy CrM and CrL, ferromanganese and graphite were used as the starting powders. Following pressing in a rigid die, compacts were sintered at 1120 and $1250^{\circ}C$ in atmospheres having different $H_2/N_2$ ratio and furnace cooled to room temperature. It has been found that the atmosphere composition has negligible effect on the as-sintered properties of the investigated materials.

  • In this study, to increase the strength and enhance the sintering property of $Al_2O_3$, $Y_2O_3$ and $La_2O_3$ were added; the effects of these additions on the sintering characteristics of $Al_2O_3$ were observed. Adding 1% of $Y_2O_3$ to $Al_2O_3$ repressed the development of abnormal particles and reduced the grain boundary migration of $Al_2O_3$, curbing pores to capture particles; as such, the material showed a fine microstructure. But, when over 2% of $Y_2O_3$ was added, the sintering property was reduced because of abnormal particle grain growth and pore formation in particles. Adding 1% of $Y_2O_3$ and $La_2O_3$ to $Al_2O_3$ led to the development of abnormal particles and formed pores in the particles; when over 3% of $La_2O_3$ was added, the sintering property was reduced because the shape of the $Al_2O_3$ particles changed to angled plates.

Effects of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ Additions on the Sintering Behavior and B-H Loop Properties of Lithium Ferrite ($Nb_2O_5$$V_2O_5$의 첨가가 Lithium Ferrite의 소결현상과 B-H Loop 특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The sintering behavior and B-H loop properties of $Li_{0.5O4}$ with the addition of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ have been investigated by observation of microstructures and measurement of semi-static hysteresis loops. The sintering temperature was lowered by the additions of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ and the effect of $V_2O_5$ addition was greater than that of $Nb_2O_5$. The abnormal grain growth was observed at about 100$0^{\circ}C$(d:4.6g/㎤) and 85$0^{\circ}C$(d:4.5g/㎤) in the specimens with the addition of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ respectively. The addition of $Nb_2O_5$ retulted in a large and uniform grain size, and the addition of $V_2O_5$ resulted in a uniform grain size but the final density was lower than that of the pure specimen. The squareness was increased and the coercive force was decreased by the addition of $Nb_2O_5$, and the squareness was decreased and the coercive force was increased by the addition of $V_2O_5$. These effects could be explained by a large and uniform grain size, and by a lower final density of specimens with the addition of $Nb_2O_5$ and $V_2O_5$ respectively.

  • We investigated the electrical properties the starting material and sintering condition on the laminated PTC thermistor for micro circuit protection. The influences of $BaTiO_3$ powder with the 0.3 and 0.45 ${\mu}m$ size and the electrical characteristics (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ sintered at 1350~1400$^{\circ}C$ for 2 h in a reducing atmosphere (1% $H_2/N_2$). The sintered (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ was increased pore and the grain size was decreased according to increasing Sr additions. In relative permittivity, the phase transition temperature of (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ was decreased for 2.5$^{\circ}C$ according to increasing 0.01 mole Sr additions, and the phase transition dose not appeared about 0.3 mole Sr addition. The (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ was show the low resistance from 0.01 mole to 0.05 mole by Sr addition, regardless of sintering temperature. The (Ba,Sr)$TiO_3$ was show $10^2$ jump order at 0.1 and 0.2 mole Sr addition, and PTCR of the sintered $(Ba_{0.7}Sr_{0.3})TiO_3$ does not appeared about 0.3 mole Sr addition, regardless of the sintering temperature and starting material size.
