The effects of $MgO-P_2O_5$ based sintering additive on the microstructure and material and biological properties of hydroxyapatite $(HAp,\;Ca_{10}(PO_4)_6(OH)_2)$ ceramic were investigated using XRD, SEM and TEM techniques. The $MgO-P_2O_5$ sintering additive improved the material properties and increased the grain size in the sintered HAp bodies. As the content of sintering additive increased over 4 wt%, a small amount of the HAp phase was decomposed and transformed to ${\beta}-TCP$. In the 2 wt% $MgO-P_2O_5$ content HAp sintered body, the maximum values of density and hardness were respectively about 3.10 gm/cc and 657 HV. However, the maximum fracture toughness in the HAp body containing 8 wt% $MgO-P_{2}O_{5}$ was about $1.02MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$ due to the crack deflection effect. Human osteoblast like MG-63 cells and osteoclast like raw 264.7 cells were well grown and fully covered all of the HAp sintered bodies. The osteoblast cells were grown with spindle-shaped and the osteoclast cells had a grape-like round shape.
The effects of the dopant (Mn) ratio on the microstructure and thermoelectric properties of $FeSi_2$ alloy were studied in this research. The alloy was fabricated by a combination process of ball milling and high pressure pressing. Structural behavior of the sintered bulks were systematically investigated by XRD, SEM, and optical microscopy. With increasing dopan (Mn) ratio, the density and ${\varepsilon}-FeSi$ phase of the sintered bulks increased and maximum density of 94% was obtained in the 0.07% Mn-doped alloy. The sintered bulks showed fine microstructure of ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}Si_{5}$, ${\varepsilon}-FeSi$ and ${\beta}-FeSi_2$ phase. The semiconducting phase of ${\beta}-FeSi_2$ was transformed from ${\alpha}-Fe_{2}Si_{5}+{\varepsilon}-FeSi$ phase by annealing.
In this study the calcined condition and characteristic of Cu-Ni-Zn ferrite powder were investigated. The Cu-Ni-Zn ferrite powder has been synthesized by the thermal decomposition of the organic acid salt. This process did not require a strict pH control and provided the uniform composition and fine powder with about 0.3 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The XRD diffraction pattern of this powder showed about 50% spinel phase. The optimum calcination was found to be done at $700^{\circ}C$ for one hour. After the calcination, the amount of spinel increased to 90%. The distribution of the particle size showed bimodal peaks, one was about 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and the other was about 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The large particles of 20 $\mu\textrm{m}$ were the agglomeration of fine Particles. The mean Particle size of the powder was about 0.4 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The powder was compacted under 100 MPa pressure and sintered at 1100~ $1250^{\circ}C$ for one hour in air. The density of ferrites specimen was a function of the sintering temperature. The higher the temperature, the denser the ferrite. The maximum relative density of the sintered ferrite was about 93% at $1250^{\circ}C$. The grain size of sintered specimen at $1200^{\circ}C$ was 5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ and homogeneous.
In this study, the dispersion stability of CeO2 based complex oxide was studied, and density, porosity, and microstructure of green body were investigated using colloid surface chemistry to manufacture the Gd2O3 doped CeO2 solid electrolyte in an aqueous system. To prepare the stable slurry for slip casting, the dispersion stability was examined as a function of pH using ESA(electrokinetic sonic anplitude) analysis. The dynamic mobility of particles was enhanced with anionic and cationic dispersant were added the amount of 0.5wt% respectively, but pH value in slurries didn't move to below 6.0 because of the influence of dopants. This phenomenon also appeared in the CeO2-Y2O3 and CeO2-Sm2O3 systems, so it could be inferred that rare earth dopants such as Gd2O3, Sm2O3 and Y2O3 not only have the similar motion with changing pH in an aqueous system but also can be dissolved in the range of pH 6.0∼6.5. In CeO2-Gd2O3 system, when the anionic dispersant was added the amount of 0.5wt% and pH value in slurries was fixed at 9.5, the green body density was 4.07g/㎤, and the relative density of sintered body was 95.2%. It could be inferred from XRD analysis that Gd3+ substituted into Ce4+ site because there was no free Gd2O3 peak.

Thin study is concerned with the cold repressing of sintered preform by rotary forging process. A experiment has been carried out using the rotary powder forging press(500kN) which was designed and constructed in the authors' laboratory. The effect of process variables and aspect ratios of sintered preform was observed and measured by several mechanical test, such as working force, hardness distribution, density, and microstructures of the specimens. It is found that the highly densified P/M parts can be obtained and this process is very effective for improving quality of the powder products.
0.75BF-0.25BT ceramics were prepared by sintering at $980-1040^{\circ}C$ in air or under atmosphere powder. A sample with 1 mole %-excess $Bi_2O_3$ was also prepared to compensate for $Bi_2O_3$-evaporation. Physical and piezoelectric properties of these three samples were compared. When the sintering temperature increased from $980^{\circ}C$ to $1040^{\circ}C$, the density of the sample sintered in air decreased continuously due to Bi-evaporation. Due to the suppression of Bi-evaporation, the sample sintered under atmosphere powder had a higher density at sintering temperatures above $1000^{\circ}C$ than did the sample sintered in air. The addition of 1 mole %-excess $Bi_2O_3$ successfully compensated for Bi-evaporation and kept the density at the higher value until $1020^{\circ}C$. Grain size increased continuously when the sintering temperature increased from 980 to $1040^{\circ}C$, irrespective of the sintering atmosphere. When the sintering temperature increased, the piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) and the electromechanical coupling factor ($k_p$) increased for all samples. The sample with 1 mole % excess-$Bi_2O_3$ showed the highest density and the best piezoelectric properties at sintering temperature of $1020^{\circ}C$.
AISI 4600 Iron powder was mixed with 0~1.0% phosphor as F$e_2$P powder and/or 0~0.8% carbon as graphite powder in rotating mixer. Mixed powder was pressed 800MPa in double-punch mould. Compacts were sintered at 115$0^{\circ}C$for 30 min. in vacuum or mixed hydrogen and nitrogen gas. Sintered compacts were ground and polished, and etched by 2% nital etchant. The microstructure was observed by image analyzer and optical microscope. Density and microhardness were tested by ASTM B3l2 and Microvickers hardness tester. The results obtained were as follows : (1) As the amount of F$e_2$P powder increased, sintered microstructure showed more densified effect and the grain size was larger. (2) The shape of pore was rounded and the number of pore was decreased by F$e_2$P addition. But mean pore size was larger with F$e_2$P content. (3) Simultaneous alloying addition of F$e_2$P and graphite brought about larger grain growth than respective addition. (4) Sintering atmosphere did not affect the microstructure. (5) Hardness of sintered compact increased with phosphrous and carbon content.

La9.33(Si5V1)O26 ceramics were fabricated by the mixed oxide method for solid oxide electrolytes. La9.33(Si5V1)O26 specimens showed the hexagonal, space group P63 or P63/m, and the unit cell volume increased when the sintering temperature increased. The specimen sintered at 1,400℃ showed the X-ray patterns of the homogeneous apatite single phase without the second phase, such as La2SiO5 and SiO2. The specimen sintered at 1,400℃ showed the maximum sintered density of 4.93 g/cm3. When the sintering temperature increased, the electrical conductivities increased, the activation energy decreased and the values were 7.83×10−4 S/cm, 1.61 eV at 600℃, respectively.
The effect of Dy addition on the microstructure and magnetic properties of the sintered NdFeB magnets was investigated. The results of the microstructure analysis showed that Dy-free and Dy-doped samples are composed of $Nd_2Fe_{14}B$ (P42/mnm) and a trace of Nd-rich phase. Dy addition reduces significantly the pole density factor of (004), (006) and (008) crystal faces as estimated by the Horta formula. Accordingly, the coercivity of the Dy-doped sample increases from 2038 $kA{\cdot}m^{-1}$ up to 2288 $kA{\cdot}m^{-1}$. The $H_{cj}(T)/M_s(T)$ versus $H^{min}_N/M_s(T)$ (Kronm$\ddot{u}$ller-plot) behavior shows that the nucleation is the dominating mechanism for the magnetization reversal in these two kinds of magnets, and two microstructural parameters of ${\alpha}_k$ and $N_{eff}$ are obtained. The Kronm$\ddot{u}$ller-Plot gives evidence for an increase of the ${\alpha}_k$ responsible for an increase of the coercivity as the result of the increase of the magnetic field as the magnetic domain reversed.
Sintered P/M connecting rod is forged to increase density and to satisfy dimensional specifications. Flow of the materials is different form that of wrought materials due to pores in the preform. The Mises yield function was modified to. include the first invariant of stress tensor, and the associated flow rule was derived by applying the normality rule to the yield function. Axisymmetric and plane-strain finite element analyes were carried out for the ring and beam portions of the connecting rod, respectively. The flow of the preform and density change of the analysis are presented in this paper. A load-stroke curve was also presented by superimposing analysis results for the ring and beam portions.
