  • The forging limit curves of sintered porous metals have been calculated, in terms of the two principal strains, by the Lee-Kuhn initial imperfection model. The various yield functions for porous metal have been applied to the initial imperfection model. When the value of initial imperfection ratio equals the value of initial relative density of the sintered porous metals, the calculation values are in good agreement with the measured data. The slopes of the forging limit curves are about 0.5 as in the case of non-porous metals.

  • This work deals with the electrical conductivity of dielectric and cobalts percentage on output parameters such as metal removal rate and surface roughness value of sintered carbides cut by wire-electrical discharge machining (WEDM). To obtain a precise workpiece with good quality, some extra repetitive finish cuts along the rough cutting contour are necessary, Experimental results show that increases of cobalt amount in carbides affects the metal removal rate and worsens the surface quality as a greater quantity of solidified metal deposits on the eroded surface. Lower electrical conductivity of the dielectric results in a higher metal removal rare as the gap between wire electrode and workpiece reduced. Especially, the surface characteristics of rough-cut workpiece and wire electrode were analyzed too. To obtain a good surface equality without crack, 4 finish-cuts were necessary reducing fille electrical energy and the offset value.

  • The microstructures of sintered products of $Fe_2O_3$or $Fe_3O_4$-Oxide added cast iron powder was investigated. And the effects of particle size distribution was investigated too. As the result, the structures of sintered products did not related to the species of Fe-Oxide. Th porosity of sintered products was decreased in size and spherodized with increasing sintering temperature, decreasing Fe-Oxide quantity. Fe-Oxide itself did not hinder sintering of cast iron powder particularly, therefore sintering could be occurred without termination of reduction of it. And the sintered products of finer particle size distribution had finer and more spherodized porosity, and had minimized the deviation of size and shape of porosity.

  • In a manufacturing technique of the sintered filter, pressureless sintering method has good permeability, it is not need the binder and lubricant used on compacting process, so it has little contamination and it is easy to control the pore size and shape but the mechanical strength is low relatively and it is difficult that parts of complicate form are manufactured. In the case of manufacturing the filter by press and sintering method, in order to be satisfactory characteristic of un-pressed filter, in this study sintered metal filter fabricated by using 30-40mesh stainless steel 316L powder and additive agents. Porosity and structure of pores, permeability and mechanical strength of the sintered filter were investigated with the variation sintering conditions. Porosity was nearly constant about $60{\sim}70%$, density, permeability and mechanical strength were changed markedly with quantity of additive materials and sintering conditions.

  • Operating characteristics of a loop heat pipe (LHP) having a bypass line was investigated experimentally. The LHP had a sintered metal wick as a capillary structure and methanol as a working fluid. The sintered metal wick was made of stainless steel of which the average pore size was 5 ${\mu}m$and porosity of 47%. A bypass line of a small diameter was attached between the vapor escape passage and the liquid reservoir. The dimension of the flat evaporator was $50(L){\times}40(W){\times}30(H)$ mm and that of the condenser was $50(L){\times}40(W){\times}11(H)$ mm. Wall and pipe material of the LHP was stainless steel and heating area was 35(W) mm${\times}$35(L) mm. The inner diameters of vapor and liquid transport lines were 4.0 mm and 2.0 mm, and the lengths of the two lines were both 0.5 m. The LHP was tested for three different tilt angles of horizontal, favorite tilt, and adverse tilt. The thermal load range was up to 290 W at the condenser above evaporation position. Furthermore, the effect of a bypass line on the start-up transient as well as steady-state operation was presented and discussed.

  • Two-component ceramic (alumina-zirconia) composites were fabricated by a soft-solution process in which polyethylene glycol (PEG) was used as a polymeric carrier. Metal salts and PEG were dissolved in ethyl alcohol without any precipitation in 1:1 volume ratio of alumina and zirconia. In the non-aqueous system, the flammable solvent made explosive, exothermic reaction during drying process. The reaction resulted in formation of volume expanded, porous precursor powders by a vigorous decomposition of organic components in the precursor sol. The PEG content affected the grain size of sintered composites as well as the morphology of precursor powders. The difference of microstructure in sintered composite was attribute to the solubility and homogeneity of metal cations in precursor sol. At the optimum amount of the PEG polymer, the metal ions were dispersed effectively in solution and a homogeneous polymeric network was formed. It made less agglomerated particles in the precursor sol and affected on uniform grain size in sintered composite.

  • For the present study, three heat pipes with different thickness of sintered metal wick were manufactured, and their operational performances, such as capillary limit and thermal resistance were tested and compared with theoretical predictions. Experimental results showed good agreement with those by the theoretical model, and that seemed to present that the sintering process we had developed in the present study was valid.

  • In this study, we have manufactured the LHP(Loop Heat Pipe) with sintered metal wick and investigated the working characteristics of LHP experimentally.Water was used as a working fluid and fill charge rate was changed. LHP basically consist of the separated vapor/liquid channels, evaporator having sintered metal wick(effective pore diameter :$16{\sim}19{\mu}m$), and condenser cooled by water. The diameter of vapor/liquid line tube are 3.2mm/6.35mm, respectively. Heat transfer rate and thermal resistance was represented to study the basic characteristics of LHP at each conditions

  • The nanoparticle-agglomerates are synthesized by laser ablation, which have the morphology of dendrite structure. The filtration performance of a conventional micron-fibrous metal filter was improved by adhering nanoparticle-agglomerates onto the filter surface. The Sintered-Nanoparticle-Agglomerates-adhered Filter (SNAF) adhered with nanostructured material was made by heat treatment after deposition of nanoparticle-agglomerates sintered in aerosol phase onto the micron-fibrous metal filter. As the sintering temperature increases, the pressure drop of the filter increases a little but the filtration efficiency increases remarkably. This is due to increase of surface area of nanoparticle-agglomerates adhered onto the micron-fibrous metal filter.
