Deep-sea fishing vessel No. 501 Oryong was fully flooded through its openings and sunk to the bottom of the sea due to the very rough sea weather on the way of evasion after a fishing operation in the Bearing Sea. As a result, many crew members died and/or were missing. In this study, a full-scale ship flooding and sinking simulation was conducted, and the sinking process was analyzed for the precise and scientific investigation of the sinking accident using a highly advanced Modeling & Simulation (M&S) system of the Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) analysis technique. To objectively secure the weather and sea states during the sinking accident in the Bering Sea, time-based wind and wave simulation at the region of the sinking accident was conducted and analyzed, and the weather and sea states were realized by simulating the irregular strong wave and wind spectrums. Simulation scenarios were developed and full-scale ship and fluid (air & seawater) modeling was performed for the flooding sinking simulation, by investigating the hull form, structural arrangement & weight distribution, and exterior inflow openings and interior flooding paths through its drawings, and by estimating the main tank capacities and their loading status. It was confirmed that the flooding and sinking accident was slightly different from a general capsize and sinking accident according to the simple loss of stability.

Deep-sea fishing vessel No. 501 Oryong was fully flooded through the openings and was sunk down to the bottom of sea due to the very rough sea weather on the way of evasion after fishing operation in the Bearing Sea with many crews dead and/or missed. In this study, calculation of ship stability was carried out using KST-SHIP(ship calculation system of KST), considering the effect of flow fluid and fish catch arrangement according to the progress of its sinking accident, and damage stability was analyzed. For this study, intact stability calculation of its accident ship under the full load departure condition and its calculation result were verified by comparing with each other, and intact stability according to displacement from the departure of accident ship just before the accident was calculated and analyzed. Damage stability was calculated according to the progress during sinking accident and also analyzed.

Demand for RW transportation is expected to increase due to the continuous generation of RW from nuclear power plants and facilities, decommissioning of plants, and saturation of spent fuel temporary storage facilities. The locational aspect of plants and radiation protection optimization for the public have led to an increasing demand for maritime transportation, necessitating to apprehend the overseas and domestic current status. Given the potential long-term radiological impact on the public in the event of a sinking accident, a pre-transportation exposure assessment is necessary. The objective of this study is to investigate the overseas and domestic RW maritime transportation current status and overseas dose assessment cases for the public in sinking accident. Selected countries, including Japan, UK, Sweden, and Korea, were examined for transport cases, Japan and the U.S were chosen for dose assessment case in sinking accidents. As a result of the maritime transportation case analysis, it was performed between nuclear power plants and reprocessing facilities, from plants to disposal or intermediate storage facilities. HLW and MOX fuel were transported using INF 3 shipments, and all transports were performed low speed of 13 kn or less. As a result of the dose assessment for the public in sinking accident, japan conducted an assessment for the sinking of spent fuel and vitrified HLW, and the U.S conducted for the sinking of spent fuel. Both countries considered external exposure through swimming and working at seashore, and internal exposure through seafood ingestion as exposure pathway. Additionally, Japan considered external exposure through working on board and fishing, and the U.S considered internal exposure through spray inhalation and desalinized water and salt ingestion. Internal exposure through seafood ingestion had the largest dose contribution. The average public exposure dose was 20 years after the sinking, 0.04 mSv yr-1 for spent fuel and 5 years after the sinking, 0.03 mSv yr-1 for vitrified HLW in Japan. In the U.S, it was 1.81 mSv yr-1 5 years after the sinking of spent fuel. The results of this study will be used as fundamental data for maritime transportation of domestic RW in the future.
The Ro-Ro ferry ship capsized and sank to the bottom of the sea because of the rapid turning for several reasons, such as lack of stability due to the center of gravity rise from the extension and rebuilding of the stern cabin, excessive cargo loading, and shortage ballast, poor lashing, etc. The purpose of this study was to investigate and analyze the cause of the ship's rapid flooding, capsizing, and sinking accident according to rapid turning scientifically and accurately using the Fluid-Structure Interaction( FSI) analysis technique. Several tests were conducted for this cause investigation of the flooding and sinking accident correctly and objectively, such as the realization of the accurate ship posture tracks according to the accident time using several accident movies and photos, the validation of cargo moving track, and sea water inflow amount through the exterior openings and interior paths compared with the ship's posture according to the accident time using the floating simulation and hydrostatic characteristics program calculation, and the performance of a full-scale ship flooding·sinking simulation.
Deep-sea fishing vessel No. 501 Oryong was fully flooded through its openings and sank to the bottom of the Bering Sea. The tragic accident was attributed to rough sea weather after a fishing operation in the Bering Sea, and led to the death or loss of many crewmen. In this study, the ship stability calculation was carried out using KST-SHIP (ship calculation system of KST), considering the free surface effect and fish catch arrangement according to the progress of its sinking accident, and stability after flooding was analyzed. The calculation results obtained using KST-SHIP were verified by comparing them to intact stability calculation sheet of the accident ship under the full load departure condition, and intact stability according to displacement from the departure of accident ship up to the moment of the accident was calculated and analyzed. The stability after flooding was also calculated and analyzed according to the progress during its sinking accident.

Recently, a wide variety of simulation techniques such as structure analysis and structure-fluid interaction analysis are being employed in the field of forensic engineering for resolving the problem of legal liability for accidents and disasters. In this study, we performed a forensic engineering investigation of a sinking accident of a DCM (deep cement mixing) vessel. The accident vessel was built as a dedicated SCP (sand compaction pile) vessel at the time of vessel building, and the DCM vessel was structurally modified, e.g., by increasing the leader height and constructing for leader expansion, without a stability review. To determine the effects of expansion and modification of structures in this sinking accident, structural stability evaluation was performed using commercial software for structural analysis, ADINA software. Through an analysis and comparison of simulation results obtained using ADINA software with the results of the structural modification and expansion, we could determine the exact cause of the sinking accident of the DCM vessel.

Telematics services include automatic location tracking for emergency rescue, which is available for use in case of a car accident due to falling off roadways. This paper presents a simulation study on how far a car will fall before it hits the ground if it drops off of a roadway due to an accident or a natural disaster. The greatest horizontal distance the falling car can travel is presented in this paper, based on the assumption that air resistance as well as the direction and degree of acceleration due to gravity is negligible. This paper also presents the depth of the dent caused by the car sinking into the ground, the time it took for the car to fall free, and the velocity at which it travelled and horizontal distance it traveled. In this paper, the damage done to cars that crash into the ground and the dangers thereof are graphically represented.

The big problem of accidents at sea is negligent watch, it causes collision, fender bender, stranding, rollover, and sinking of fishing vessel. Most accidents happens without an eyewitness, it is difficult to identify the cause of the accident. VDR(: Voyage Data Recorder) is needed to identify a cause of the accident, the VDR is not usually used for fishing vessel because of high cost. Thus, this paper designs and develops a VDR system for fishing vessel. If the system is used, cause of a sea accident can be quickly identified. Also, a VDR system can be used for appropriate measures to fix a cause of the accident. Finally, it also can be helpful to prevent maritime accidents.
