  • In this work the kinetics of volume changes of fluid spaces associated with infusion of Ringer's solution are analyzed using the body fluid space model. During infusion of Ringer's solution, the human body is assumed to be characterized by the fluid space model into which fluid is fed and from which fluid is left. Various infusion types were tested to accommodate different medical situations. Volunteers were given Ringer's solution and the changes in blood hemoglobin were detected. From the comparison with experimental data, the single- and two-fluid space models were found to represent adequately the kinetics of human volume expansion during infusion of Ringer's solution.

  • As a single-channel pump is used for wastewater treatment, this particular pump type can prevent performance reduction or damage caused by foreign substances. However, the design methods for single-channel pumps are different and more difficult than those for general pumps. In this study, a design optimization method to improve the hydrodynamic performance of a single-channel pump impeller is implemented. Numerical analysis was carried out by solving three-dimensional steady-state incompressible Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations using the shear stress transport turbulence model. As a state-of-the-art impeller design method, two design variables related to controlling the internal cross-sectional flow area of a single-channel pump impeller were selected for optimization. Efficiency was used as the objective function and was numerically assessed at twelve design points selected by Latin hypercube sampling in the design space. An optimization process based on a radial basis neural network model was conducted systematically, and the performance of the optimum model was finally evaluated through an experimental test. Consequently, the optimum model showed improved performance compared with the base model, and the unstable flow components previously observed in the base model were suppressed remarkably well.

  • Turbulence is ubiquitous in astrophysical fluids such as the interstellar medium(ISM) and the intracluster medium(ICM). There are many driving mechanisms which can inject energy into the fluid in variety driving scales, But the plausible driving scale of ISM/ICM turbulence are yet unknown. Therefore, understanding different statistical properties between turbulence with single driving scale and turbulence with double driving scale is required. In this work, we performed 3-dimensional isothermal compressible, magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) turbulence simulations. We drive turbulence in the Fourier space in two ranges, 2

  • The axial-flow-induced vibration of fuel rods in the nuclear power plant is closely related to nuclear safety. In this article, a numerical study is performed on vibration of two elastic cylinders arranged side-by-side in axial flow. Large eddy simulation is employed to predict the turbulent flow. The numerical method has been verified using the experimental root-mean-square vibration amplitude of a single cylinder. A wide range of inflow velocities u*, incident turbulence intensity Tu and space ratio P/D have been examined, where D and P are the diameter and centre-to-centre distance of the cylinders, respectively. The results show that the vibration amplitudes increase with an increasing u*, comparable to the case of a single cylinder in axial flow. However, the two cylinders could bend outwards during a relatively high u* and low Tu. Although Tu significantly affects the amplitudes of the cylinders, it does not change the vibration frequency and the critical velocity at which buckling instability occurs. As the gap between the two cylinders is sufficiently small, the vibration amplitude enhances significantly due to the pronounced hydrodynamic interaction between the two elastic cylinders and surrounding fluid. The direction of buckling is no longer random but fixed.

  • This paper presents new differential methods for computing the combined and single dynamic stability derivatives of flight vehicle. Based on rigid dynamic mesh technique, the combined dynamic stability derivative can be achieved by imposing the aircraft pitching to the same angle of attack with two different pitching angular velocities and also translating it to the same additional angle of attack with two different rates of angle of attack. As a result, the acceleration derivative is identified. Moreover, the rotating reference frame is adopted to calculate the rotary derivatives when simulating the steady pull-up with different pitching angular velocities. Two configurations, the Hyper Ballistic Shape (HBS) and Finner missile model, are considered as evaluations and results of all the cases agree well with reference or experiment data. Compared to traditional ones, the new differential methods are of high efficiency and accuracy, and potential to be extended to the simulation of combined and single stability derivatives of directional and lateral.

  • We realize a color reflective display without any color filter and sub-pixelation concept, by which the full or single color realization is basically impossible. In this study, we use a 3-electrode on the lower substrate with indium tin oxide (ITO) glass. The width of a rib is $30{\mu}m$, a cell size is $150{\mu}m{\times}150{\mu}m$, and the space of lower electrodes is $10{\mu}m$. To get the single color, we drive this panel by a identical algorithm based on the movement of charged particle in color fluid within a cell with hermetic seal. According to the driving method, the lifetime of panel is different.

  • Energy systems working coherently in different conditions may not have a specific design which can provide optimal performance. A system working for a longer period at lower efficiency implies higher energy consumption. In this effort, a methodology demonstrated by a jet pump design and optimization via numerical modeling for fluid dynamics and implementation of an evolutionary algorithm for the optimization shows a reduction in computational costs. The jet pump inherently has a low efficiency because of improper mixing of primary and secondary fluids, and multiple momentum and energy transfer phenomena associated with it. The high fidelity solutions were obtained through a validated numerical model to construct an approximate function through surrogate analysis. Pareto-optimal solutions for two objective functions, i.e., secondary fluid pressure head and primary fluid pressure-drop, were generated through a multi-objective genetic algorithm. For the jet pump geometry, a design space of several design variables was discretized using the Latin hypercube sampling method for the optimization. The performance analysis of the surrogate models shows that the combined surrogates perform better than a single surrogate and the optimized jet pump shows a higher performance. The approach can be implemented in other energy systems to find a better design.

  • Spatial multiplication phenomenon, expressed through de-constructive trend since the late of 20C, have got changed existing fixed and dis-variable space to smooth, fluid, and changeable space. Ex-form and fluidity of new spatial paradigm have been focused through lots of scientific theories studied between digital thought and indeterminacy and rankless nature phenomena. In 21C fashion, indeterminate and irregular form and space have been crested continuously, which could not explain simply according as the fluidity theory Different from the space crested for multi-function and multipurpose, this is revealed the characteristics of chaosmos that communizes the order and the disorder, deconstruction and creation. Ex-formal space of fashion have shown the relationship of de-centerizing, de-territorial, and do-structural phenomenon among different fashion elements. This paper intends to understand the concept of ex-form, and study expressive manners of ex-formal space of 21C fashion, and conclusion as follows. 1) Overlap changes single space of fashion to multi-layered space through the repeat system of pleats, origami, and folding. 2) Ex-gravity expressed in deviation of the gravity acting vertical direction, for example, twisting, curve, winding, portion. 3) Morphing is shown the change process from single fixed form to different complex form. 4) Blurring is expressed in re-combination and re-arrangement among elements of fashion. 5) Blob shows hybrid fashion space through the liberal compounding and separation of a lot of different elements.

  • We propose a three-electrode type electronic paper display and its fabrication process to realize single color at the same display panel. We establish a fabrication process with the mixing of electronic ink, loading of this ink, electronic ink assembly, packaging and driving. Also, we discuss an operating principle of this panel and the induced image reversal phenomenon by electric field area of the lower electrodes. This phenomenon is not occurred for the panel having $10{\mu}m$ electrode space. By this pixelation structure like this three-electronic paper display, a single color realization without color filter is possible and various kind of color is defined by a dye selection for charged particles and electrically neutral fluid.

  • The electricity conversion-efficiency of solar cell for commercial application is about 6-15%. More than 85% of the incoming solar energy is either reflected or absorbed as heat energy. Consequently, the working temperature of the photovoltaic cells increases considerably after prolonged operations and the cell's efficiency drops significantly. PV/T refers to the integration of a PV module and a solar thermal collector in a single piece of equipment. By cooling the PV module with a fluid steam like air or water, the electricity yield can be improved. At the same time, the heat pick-up by the fluid can be to support space heating or service hot-water systems. In this study, a pulsating heat pipe solar heat collector was combined with single-crystal silicon photovoltaic cell in hybrid energy-generating unit that simultaneously produced low temperature heat and heat and electricity. This experiment was investigating thermal and electrical efficiency for evaluation of a PV/T system.
