This paper presents nonlinear oscillations of a carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam subjected to lateral harmonic load with damping effect based on the modified couple stress theory. As reinforcing phase, three different types of single walled carbon nanotubes distribution are considered through the thickness in polymeric matrix. The non-linear strain-displacement relationship is considered in the von Kármán nonlinearity. The governing nonlinear dynamic equation is derived with using of Hamilton's principle. The Galerkin's decomposition technique is utilized to discretize the governing nonlinear partial differential equation to nonlinear ordinary differential equation and then is solved by using of multiple time scale method. The frequency response equation and the forced vibration response of the system are obtained. Effects of patterns of reinforcement, volume fraction, excitation force and the length scale parameter on the nonlinear responses of the carbon nanotube reinforced composite beam are investigated.

A single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) transparent conductive film (TCF) was fabricated using a simple inkjet printing method. The TCF could be selectively patterned by controlling the dot size to diameters as small as $34{\mu}m$. In this repeatable and scalable process, we achieved 71% film transmittance and a resistance of 900 ohm/sq sheet with an excellent uniformity, about ${\pm}5%$ deviation overall. Inkjet printing of SWNT is substrate friendly and the TCF is printed on a flexible substrate. This method of fabrication using direct printing permits mass production of TCF in a large area process, reducing processing steps and yielding low-cost TCF fabrications on a designated area using simple printing.
Carbon nanotubes hold much promise as future materials for safe storage of hydrogen. In this paper, hydrogen transport mechanisms in single-walled carbon nano-tubes (SWNTs) for various temperatures and chiral indices were studied using molecular dynamics simulation method. The SWNT models of zigzag (10,0), chiral (10,5) and armchair (10,10) with hydrogen molecules inside were simulated at temperatures ranging from 253K to 373K. Movements of hydrogen molecules ($H_2$) inside a SWNT were analyzed using mean-square displacements and velocity autocorrelation functions.
We present a mass productive and reproducible assembly technique of a single bundle of single-walled carbon nanotubes (sb-SWNTs) using dielectrophoresis (DEP). Gold electrodes with 10 gaps made via microlithography were used to align the carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The magnitude and type of applied electric field were investigated to verify their effects on CNT assembly. The optimum assembling conditions in which sb-SWNTs could be positioned at a desired site were experimentally identified, and the characteristics of the assembled sb-SWNTs were evaluated from AFM, Raman spectroscopy, and I-V curve. This assembly method has potential for applications such as gas sensors or electronic devices.

Dynamic behavior of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in an electric field is directly observed by in-situ transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The CNT field emitters examined by in-situ TEM are multiwalled, double-walled and single walled CNTs. Threshold fields for electron emission and sustainable emission currents depending on the structure of CNTs are presented, and degradation mechanism of the CNT field emitters is discussed. In addition to the microscopy studies on individual CNTs, our recent development in surface treatment of CNT layers grown by chemical vapor deposition, which brings about high density of emission current and high uniformity, is also presented.
A diode structure of field emission lamps based upon carbon-nanotube is studied. The single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNTs) were produced by arc discharge method. We made the 1-inch diode type flat lamp using CNTs. We applied anode voltage gradually to refine the field emission behavior of emitter in dynamic vacuum system to study the emission current. the brightness and efficiency, etc. The field emission properties was estimated by varying gaps between the cathode and anode, contents of the glass frit. The good luminous efficiency is showed in the gap $900{\mu}m$, $1200{\mu}m$ and contents of the proper glass frit. For the upper conditions, the luminous efficiencies were respectively 23.30, 11.12 1m/W.
We report a passive Q-switching of an all-fiber erbium-doped fiber laser delivering high pulse energy by using a high quality single-walled carbon nanotube saturable absorber (SWCNT-SA). A side-polished fiber coated with the SWCNT is employed as an in-line SA for evanescent wave interaction between the incident light and the SWCNT. This lateral interaction scheme enables a stable Q-switched fiber laser that generates high pulse energy. The central wavelength of the Q-switched pulse laser was measured as 1560 nm. A repetition rate frequency of the Q-switched laser is controlled from 78 kHz to 190 kHz by adjusting the applied pump power from 124 mW to 790 mW. The variation of pulse energy from 51 nJ to 270 nJ is also observed as increasing the pump power. The pulse energy of 270 nJ achieved at maximum pump power is 3 times larger than those reported in Q-switched all-fiber lasers using a SWCNT-SA. The tunable behaviors in pulse duration, pulse repetition rate, and pulse energy as a function of pump power are reported, and are well matched with theoretical expectation.
Here we report the tunable electrical properties and chemical sensor of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) network-based devices with a functionalization technique. Formation of highly aligned SWCNT structures is made on $SiO_2/Si$ substrates using a template-based fluidic assembly process. We present a Platinum (Pt)-nanocluster decoration technique that reduces the resistivity of SWCNT network-based devices. This indicates the conversion of the semiconducting SWCNTs into metallic ones. In addition, we present the Hydrogen Sulfide ($H_2S$) gas detection by a redox reaction based on SWCNT networks functionalized with 2,2,6,6-Tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl (TEMPO) as a catalyst. We summarize current changes of devices resulting from the redox reactions in the presence of $H_2S$. The semiconducting (s)-SWCNT device functionalized with TEMPO shows high gas response of 420% at 60% humidity level compared to 140% gas response without TEMPO functionalization, which is about 3 times higher than bare s-SWCNT sensor at the same RH. These results reflect promising perspectives for real-time monitoring of $H_2S$ gases with high gas response and low power consumption.
Bundles of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNTs) were grown using catalytic layer supported by self-assembled monolayers (SAMs). Amine-SAMs were introduced on SiO2/Si substrate (SAMs/Si) there then iron nanoclusters solution was dropped on it through spin-coating (Fe/SAMs/Si). This catalytic template was used to grow CNTs and the synthesized carbon material was confirmed the bundles of dense SWCNTs with incorporation of ca.1% nitrogen. The SAMs has played an active role to support catalytic layer and also acted as a source of N-dope onto SWCNTs in CVD.
From recent research, it has revealed that Electroacitve polymer(EAP) has a physical limitation. Carbon nanotube(CNT) is known as the promising material which has excellent electro-mechanical characteristics and is mostly defect-free. It is expected that a successful synthesis of CNT and Nafion known as a primary material for IPMC would make a great improvement on its electro-mechanic feature. In this paper, we suggest the method of synthesis of CNT with Nafion which improves electro-mechanical characteristic. Using mechanical dispersion with Nafion and Isopropyl Alcohol(IPA), we disperse Single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNT). For a uniformly layer of CNT, we used a spray gun on a hot plate by a simplified method. In the result, we fabricated a disperse SWCNT/Nafion composite uniformly.
