A computationally efficient inversion scheme has been developed using the extended Born or localized nonlinear approximation to analyze electromagnetic fields obtained in a single-hole environment. The medium is assumed to be cylindrically symmetric about the borehole, and to maintain the symmetry vertical magnetic dipole source is used throughout. The efficiency and robustness of an inversion scheme is very much dependent on the proper use of Lagrange multiplier, which is often provided manually to achieve desired convergence. In this study, an automatic Lagrange multiplier selection scheme has been developed to enhance the utility of the inversion scheme in handling field data. The inversion scheme has been tested using synthetic data to show its stability and effectiveness.

When vortex tubes are applied to enhance the coefficient of performance of refrigeration system, the smaller one is preferable. However, the existing vortex generator with a nozzle hole diameter of 0.5mm was not suitable due to chocking of the nozzle hole. Therefore, experimental investigation was made to find an appropriate geometry of vortex generator, which could give a comparable effect of energy separation to commercial ones without chocking problem. The tested vortex generators were tangential and spiral types, which had single inducing channel with larger cross-sectional area than that of conventional multi-hole ones. The experimental result showed that the performance of the spiral type was better than that of the tangential one. As a small size of spiral one, the diameter of cold-end orifice is proposed to an half of tube diameter for the application to refrigeration system, while cold mass fraction ratio is 0.5∼0.6 for a desirable operation.
In this study, to increase the mixing between flue gas and reducing agent, new shapes of $NH_3$ ejection nozzles are designed and experimentally and numerically tested. The nozzles have six holes perpendicular to the ambient flue gas flow and the tilting angle between direction of ambient flow and the hole axis is varied. To evaluate the mixing efficiency of the proposed nozzles, numerical and experimental tests are applied to several flow conditions comparing with single hole nozzle, which is commonly used in conventional SCR process. From the results the nozzle with tilted multi-holes has the large region of high turbulent intensity compared with conventional single hole nozzle. This is originated from the high vorticity near the upstream of the jet flow issuing from the hole. The high turbulent intensity and vorticity magnitude lead to enhanced mixing between flue gas and reducing agent. Hence, the most suitable moral ratio between NOx and reducing agent for the catalytic reaction can be obtained on behalf of the intensified scalar mixing within shorter physical mixing length.
Holes of rivets, bolts and nuts may cause stress concentration on the plates used in aircraft, ship and other structures. Excessive stress concentration may lead to severe breakage of the plates. Thus, accurate analysis of the stress concentration at the design stage will be important. In this paper, accuracy of EDISON program in stress concentration analysis was examined. By changing hole size on a narrow plate, the change of the stress concentration factor(K) was investigated. Additionally, the same experiment was conducted about series of holes on plate to investigate the interaction between adjacent holes. Then, these numerical results were compared with the analytic prediction. EDISON program showed very high accuracy about stress concentration, since the numerical results was correlated well with the analytic prediction.

Using a semi-circled blunt body model, the geometrical effects of injection hole on the turbine blade leading edge film cooling are investigated. The film cooling characteristics of two shaped holes (laterally- and streamwise-diffused holes) and three cylindrical holes with different lateral injection angles, 30°, 45°, 60°, respectively, are compared with those of cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle experimentally and numerically. Kidney vortices, which decrease the adiabatic film cooling effectiveness, appear on downstream of the cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle. At downstream of the two shaped holes have better film cooling characteristics than the cylindrical one. Instead of kidney vortices, single vortex appears on downstream of injection holes with lateral injection angle. The adiabatic film cooling effectiveness is symmetrically distributed along the lateral direction downstream of the cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle. But, at downstream of the cylindrical holes with lateral injection angle, the distribution of adiabatic film cooling effectiveness in the lateral direction shows asymmetric nature and high adiabatic film cooling effectiveness regions are more widely distributed than those of the cylindrical hole with no lateral injection angle. As the blowing ratio increases, also, the effects of hole shapes and injection angles increase.

Recent electronic equipment becomes smaller, more functional, and more complex. According to these trends, LTCC(low temperature co-fired ceramic) has been emerged as a promising technology in packaging industry. It consists of multi-layer ceramic sheet, and the circuit has 3D structure. In this technology via hole formation plays an important role because it provides an electric path for the packaging interconnection network. Therefore via hole quality is very important for ensuring performance of LTCC product. Via holes are formed on the green sheet that consists of ceramic(before sintering) layer and PET(polyethylene Terephthalate) one. In this paper we found the correlation between hole quality and process condition such as ceramic thickness, and tool size. The shear behavior of double layer sheet by micro hole punching which is different from that of single layer one was also discussed.
It has been suggested that there could be a large number of primordial black holes which were formed in the early universe. We analyze the growth of such a primordial black hole following two different accretion rates - the Eddington accretion rate and the Bondi accretion rate - at the center of a host star like the sun. We find that a primordial black hole with M < ${\sim}10^{17}\;g$ cannot substantially grow in any case throughout the lifetime of a host star. If M > ${\sim}10^{17}\;g$, the evolution of a host star depends entirely on the mode of accretion, but it ends as a black hole in either case. Since more stars may have primordial black holes at the center of a galaxy this may result in a cluster of such black holes, and the cluster may eventually collapse to produce a single supermassive black hole.

Recently, the utilization of underground space for research facilities and resource development has been on the rise, expanding development from shallow to deep underground. The establishment of deep underground spaces necessitates a thorough examination of rock stability under conditions of elevated stress and temperature. In instances of greater depth, the stability is influenced not only by the geological structure and discontinuity of rock but also by the propagation of ground vibrations resulting from earthquakes and rock blasting during excavation, causing stress changes in the underground cavity and impacting rock stability. In terms of blasting engineering, empirical regression models and numerical analysis methods are used to predict ground vibration through statistical regression analysis based on measured data. In this study, single-hole blasting was conducted, and the pressure of the blast hole and observation hole and ground vibration were measured. Based on the experimental results, the blast pressure blasting vibration at a distance, and the response characteristics of the tunnel floor, side walls, and ceiling were analyzed.
The high power and single mode vertical cavity surface emitting laser(VCSEL)s with photonic crystal structures have been proposed and fabricated by reducing substantially the hole numbers used in the photonic crystal structures. It is found that only six holes enable VCSELs to operate a single mode and the reliability can be enhanced by filling the holes with polyimide. The single mode lasing characteristics were analyzed by varying the oxide aperture and the hole diameter in photonic crystal structures. As a result, the single mode lasing can be stably obtained in the photonic crystal vertical cavity surface emitting lasers.
This study presents that various grain boundary junctions are prepared by controlling the seed orientation combined with an artificial hole in a melt process REBCO bulk superconductor. Large grain YBCO superconductors have been fabricated with various grain boundary junctions that the angle between the grain boundary and the <001> axis of Y123 crystal is $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ and $45^{\circ}$, respectively. The presence of the artificial hole is beneficial for the formation of clean grain boundary junction and single peak trapped magnetic field profiles have been obtained. Artificial hole makes two growth fronts meet at a point on a periphery of the artificial hole. The presence of artificial hole is not likely to affect on the distribution of Y211 particles. The newly formed <110> facet lines are explained by the formation of new Y123/liquid interface with (010) crystallographic plane.
