By using unique experimental techniques and careful construction of the experimental apparatus, the characteristics of the local heat transfer were investigated using the condensing R134a two-phase flow, in horizontal single mini-channels. The circular channels ($D_h=0.493$, 0.691, and 1.067 mm) and rectangular channels ($D_h=0.494$, 0.658, and 0.972 mm) were tested and compared. Tests were performed for a mass flux of 100, 200, 400, and 600 $kg/m^2s$, a heat flux of 5 to 20 $kW/m^2$, and a saturation temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. In this study, effect of heat flux, mass flux, vapor qualities, hydraulic diameter, and channel geometry on flow condensation were investigated and the experimental local condensation heat transfer coefficients are shown. The experimental data of condensation Nusselt number are compared with existing correlations.

Prediction of diesel particulate filtration is typically made by virtue of modeling of particulate matter(PM) collection. The model is closed with filtration parameters reflecting all small scale phenomena associated with PM trapping, and these parameters are to be traced back by inversely analyzing large-scale empirical data-the pressure drop histories. Included are soot cake permeability, soot cake density, soot density in the porous filter wall, and percolation constant. In the present study, a series of single channel DPF experiment is conducted, pressure histories are inversely analyzed, and the essential filtration parameters are deducted by DPF filtration model formulated with non-linear description of soot cake regression. Sensitivity analyses of model parameters are also made. Results showed that filtration transients are significantly altered by the extent of percolation constant, and the soot density in the porous filter wall is controlling the filtration qualities in deep-bed filtration regime. In addition, effect of soot particle size on filtration quality is distinct in a period of soot cake regime.

Frequent arousals during sleep degrade the quality of sleep and result in sleep fragmentation. Visual inspection of physiological signals to detect the arousal events is cumbersome and time-consuming work. The purpose of this study is to develop an automatic algorithm to detect the arousal events. The proposed method is based on time-frequency analysis and the support vector machine classifier using single channel electroencephalogram (EEG). To extract features, first we computed 6 indices to find out the informations of a subject's sleep states. Next powers of each of 4 frequency bands were computed using spectrogram of arousal region. And finally we computed variations of power of EEG frequency to detect arousals. The performance has been assessed using polysomnographic (PSG) recordings of twenty patients with sleep apnea, snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS). We could obtain sensitivity of 79.65%, specificity of 89.52% for the data sets. We have shown that proposed method was effective for detecting the arousal events.

In this paper, we discuss parameters of line code and simulate a same optical ethernet having minimum bandwidth(MB810) and non-minimum bandwidth line code(8B/10B) to present the possibility of improving of transmission performance using minimum bandwidth line code on the high speed optical ethernet. We design the high speed optical ethernet using Serial type LAN PHY 10GBASE-E(WDM type LAN PHY 10GBASE-LX4) for the single(multi) channel link. To compare the transmission performance of MB810, 8B/10B line code we measure the bit error rate(BER) according to the received optical power of single and multi channel link.
The pumping characteristics of a disk-type drag pump (DTDP) from free molecular flow region to the slip flow region are calculated by the direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC) method. In this study, the pumping performance is studied numerically for several channel depths. The interaction between molecules is modeled by variable hard-sphere (VHS). The no time counter method is used as a collision sampling technique. The clearance between rotor and stator is considered an effect on performance. Spiral channels are cut on both upper and lower sides of rotating disks, and stationary disks are planar. A three-dimensional DSMC method for the analysis of steady rarefied flows in a single-stage DTDP has been developed. Velocity and density fields were obtained by the DSMC simulation in the rotor. The present experimental data in the outlet pressure range of $7.5{\times}10^{-3}{\sim}4$ Torr were compared with the DSMC results in the single-stage DTDP. Comparison between the experimental data and DSMC results showed good agreement.
Predictions of diesel particulate filtration are typically made by modeling of a particle collection, and providing particle trapping levels in terms of a pressure drop. In the present study, a series of single channel diesel particulate filter (DPF) experiments are conducted, the pressure traces are inversely analyzed and essential filtration parameters are deducted for model closure. A DPF filtration model is formulated with a non-linear description of soot cake regression. Dependence of soot cake porosity, packing density, permeability, and soot density in filter walls on convective-diffusive particle transportation is examined. Sensitivity analysis was conducted on model parameters, relevant to the mode of transition. Soot cake porosity and soot packing density show low degrees of dispersion with respect to the Peclet number and have asymptotes at 0.97 and $70\;kg/m^3$, respectively, at high Peclet number. Soot density in the filter wall, which is inversely proportional to filter wall Peclet number, controls the filtration mode transition but exerts no influence on termination pressure drop. The percolation constant greatly alters the extent of pressure drop, but is insensitive to volumetric flow rate or temperature of exhaust gas at fixed operation mode.
As part of a structural health monitoring system, the relative geometric relationship between a ship and bridge has been recognized as important for bridge authorities and ship owners to avoid ship-bridge collision. This study proposes a novel computer vision method for the real-time geometric parameter identification of moving ships based on a single shot multibox detector (SSD) by using transfer learning techniques and monocular vision. The identification framework consists of ship detection (coarse scale) and geometric parameter calculation (fine scale) modules. For the ship detection, the SSD, which is a deep learning algorithm, was employed and fine-tuned by ship image samples downloaded from the Internet to obtain the rectangle regions of interest in the coarse scale. Subsequently, for the geometric parameter calculation, an accurate ship contour is created using morphological operations within the saturation channel in hue, saturation, and value color space. Furthermore, a local coordinate system was constructed using projective geometry transformation to calculate the geometric parameters of ships, such as width, length, height, localization, and velocity. The application of the proposed method to in situ video images, obtained from cameras set on the girder of the Wuhan Yangtze River Bridge above the shipping channel, confirmed the efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness of the proposed method.
In this study, the performance and distribution of fluid concentration, pressure, and current density of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell was investigated. In this paper, the two different types of flow field design were compared, singel channel and 5-channels. As a result, the 5-channels of flow field showed the better performance than that of single chanel. Especially, the single channel showed better performance in terms of mass transfer loss area.

Surface electromyography (sEMG) is a noninvasive method used to capture electrically muscle activity, which can be easily measured even during exercise. The basic unit of muscle activity is the motor unit, and because an sEMG signal is a superposition of motor unit action potentials, analysis of muscle activity using sEMG should ideally be done from the perspective of motor unit activity. However, conventional techniques can only evaluate sEMG signals based on abstract signal features, such as root-mean-square (RMS) and mean-power-frequency (MPF), and cannot detect individual motor unit activities from an sEMG signal. On the other hand, needle EMG can only capture the activity of a few local motor units, making it extremely difficult to grasp the activity of the entire muscle. Therefore, in this study, a method to visualize the activities of motor units in a single-channel sEMG signal by relocating wavelet coefficients obtained by redundant discrete wavelet analysis is proposed. The information obtained through this method resides in between the information obtained through needle EMG and the information obtained through sEMG using conventional techniques.

Background Prosthetic hands with a myoelectric interface have recently received interest within the broader category of hand prostheses, but their high cost is a major barrier to use. Modern three-dimensional (3D) printing technology has enabled more widespread development and cost-effectiveness in the field of prostheses. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the clinical impact of a low-cost 3D-printed myoelectric-interface prosthetic hand on patients' daily life. Methods A prospective review of all upper-arm transradial amputation amputees who used 3D-printed myoelectric interface prostheses (Mark V) between January 2016 and August 2017 was conducted. The functional outcomes of prosthesis usage over a 3-month follow-up period were measured using a validated method (Orthotics Prosthetics User Survey-Upper Extremity Functional Status [OPUS-UEFS]). In addition, the correlation between the length of the amputated radius and changes in OPUS-UEFS scores was analyzed. Results Ten patients were included in the study. After use of the 3D-printed myoelectric single electromyography channel prosthesis for 3 months, the average OPUS-UEFS score significantly increased from 45.50 to 60.10. The Spearman correlation coefficient (r) of the correlation between radius length and OPUS-UEFS at the 3rd month of prosthetic use was 0.815. Conclusions This low-cost 3D-printed myoelectric-interface prosthetic hand with a single reliable myoelectrical signal shows the potential to positively impact amputees' quality of life through daily usage. The emergence of a low-cost 3D-printed myoelectric prosthesis could lead to new market trends, with such a device gaining popularity via reduced production costs and increased market demand.
