This paper presents the robust control simulation of a composite beam using self-sensing actuators(SSA). The self-sensing actuator is a new concept for intelligent material, where a single piezoelectric element simultaneously functions as both a sensor and an actuator. In a practical implementation of the self-sensing actuator an electrical bridge circuit is used to measure strain. The circuit could provide significant information about strain in the element if it were well-balanced. Our aim is design a robust controller which guarantees that the performance of a self-sensing actuator is robust against perturbation of the bridge balance and to confirm the advantages of this technique. Simulation results show that the self-sensing actuator driven by the designed controller exhibits excellent performance in suppressing the vibration of a composite beam.

Focused ion beams are a potential tool for micro/nano structure fabrication while several problems still have to be overcome. Redeposition of sputtered atoms limits the accurate fabrication of micro/nano structures. The challenge lies in accurately controlling the focused ion beam to fabricate various arbitrary curved shapes. In this paper a basic approach for the focused ion beam induced direct fabricate of fundamental features is presented. This approach is based on the topography simulation which naturally considers the redeposition of sputtered atoms and sputtered yield changes. Fundamental features such as trapezoidal, circular and triangular were fabricated with this approach using single or multiple pass box milling. The beam diameter(FWHM) and maximum current density are 68 nm and $0.8 A/cm^2$, respectively. The experimental investigations show that the fabricated shape is well suited for the pre-designed fundamental features. The characteristics of ion beam induced direct fabrication and shape formation will be discussed.
In this paper, we have proposed a method by using virtual simulation to calculate the behaviors of spacers to avoid conductor galloping with the hanging composite polymer spacer between conductors on different phases. We have considered with three types of modeling considerations for the analysis of galloping in power transmission lines, such as iced-single conductors without spacer, iced-single conductors with spacers, and iced-two bundle conductors with spacers. In simulation, the finite element method is used to calculate the structural response with geometric nonlinear behavior. The iced conductor is modeled by two beam-element faces with which it is connected. The ANSYS program is applied too. First, the calculation results show that the two beam-element model is very suitable to make a virtual simulation. Second, the amplitude of conductor galloping is reduced after hanged spacers. Third, when number of spacer is increased, the maximum magnitude of natural frequency of iced conductor will reduce. Final, the behaviors of spacers are verified in viewpoint of standard cases.
In this investigation, dynamic and bending behaviors of isolated protein microtubules are analyzed. Microtubules (MTs) can be considered as bio-composite structures that are elements of the cytoskeleton in eukaryotic cells and posses considerable roles in cellular activities. They have higher mechanical characteristics such as superior flexibility and stiffness. In the modeling purpose of microtubules according to a hollow beam element, a novel single variable sinusoidal beam model is proposed with the conjunction of modified strain gradient theory. The advantage of this model is found in its new displacement field involving only one unknown as the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory, which is even less than the Timoshenko beam theory. The equations of motion are constructed by considering Hamilton's principle. The obtained results are validated by comparing them with those given based on higher shear deformation beam theory containing a higher number of variables. A parametric investigation is established to examine the impacts of shear deformation, length scale coefficient, aspect ratio and shear modulus ratio on dynamic and bending behaviors of microtubules. It is remarked that when length scale coefficients are almost identical of the outer diameter of MTs, microstructure-dependent behavior becomes more important.
Single towed line array receiver contains an ambiguity on conjugate bearings because of lacking aperture in transverse direction. To solve the left/right bearing ambiguity of line array receiver this paper proposed using single line array with fixed cardioid beam. Fixed cardioid beam has problem about back beam gain exists for steering beam inherent. Back beam is makes form on direction that is different from actually source so that reduced the performance of left/right bearing discrimination. In this paper, line way with adaptive cardioid beam for resolve problem of back beam gain is proposed. So the proposed method has more improved left/right bearing discrimination than fixed cardioid beam, Simulation results show the performance of the proposed method.
Since the AESA radar scans and tracks a distant targets or ground, it requires a test field which meets far-field condition before flight test. In order to test beam foaming, targeting, and availability from cluttering and jamming, it is general to build a outdoor roof-lab test site at tens of meters high. However, the site is affected by surrounding terrain, weather, and noise wave and is also requires time, space, and a lot of costs. In order to solve this problem, theoretical near-field beam foaming method has proposed. However, it requires modification of associated hardware in order to construct near-field test configuration. In this paper, we propose near-field beam foaming method which use single LUT in order to calibrate the variation of TRM(transmit-receive module) which consists AESA radar without modification of associated hardware and software. It requires less costs than far-field test and multiple LUT based near-field test, nevertheless it can derives similar experimental results.
In this paper, we simulate and calculate the stress and output voltage of the beam structure load cells by using FEM as varing physical structure parameters and loading positions. It is proved that stress enhance as the increase of the notch pitch and radius of the load cell, but decrease as the increase of the notch thickness and beam width. The results are good matched for basic formulas of the single fixed beam, and are verified our simulation is correct. Also, it is found that the stress characteristics of the load cell is varied according to loading positions with structure parameters, and caculated output voltage of the load cell approximate to those of the real manufactured ones. As a result, this study will offer efficient design and analysis technique for making special and variety capacity of load cells.

The shrinking critical dimensions of modern technology place a heavy requirement on optimizing feature shapes at the micro- and nano scale. In addition, the use of ion beams in the nano-scale world is greatly increased by technology development. Especially, Focused ion Beam (FIB) has a great potential to fabricate the device in nano-scale. Nevertheless, FIB has several limitations, surface swelling in low ion dose regime, precipitation of incident ions, and the re-deposition effect due to the sputtered atoms. In recent years, many approaches and research results show that the re-deposition effect is the most outstanding effect to overcome or reduce in fabrication of micro and nano devices. A 2D string based simulation software AMADEUS-2D $(\underline{A}dvanced\;\underline{M}odeling\;and\;\underline{D}esign\;\underline{E}nvironment\;for\;\underline{S}putter\;Processes)$ for ion milling and FIB direct fabrication has been developed. It is capable of simulating ion beam sputtering and re-deposition. In this paper, the 2D FIB simulation is demonstrated and the characteristics of ion beam induced direct fabrication is analyzed according to various parameters. Several examples, single pixel, multi scan box region, and re-deposited sidewall formation, are given.

A modular Gaussian beam model is developed to simulate some ultrasonic testing configurations where multiple interfaces are involved. A general formulation is given in a modular matrix form to represent the Gaussian beam propagation with multiple interfaces. The ultrasonic transducer fields are modeled by a multi-Gaussian beam model which is formed by superposing 10 single Gaussian beams. The proposed model, referred to as "MMGB" (modular multi-Gaussian beam) model, is then applied to a typical contact and angle beam testing configuration to predict the output signal reflected from the corner of a vertical crack. The resulting expressions given in a modular matrix form are implemented in a personal computer using the MATLAB program. Simulation results are presented and compared with available experimental results.

Diffuse wireless optical communication offers more robust optical links in terms of coverage and shadowing than line-of-sight links. However, traditional diffuse wireless infrared (IR) transceiver systems are more susceptible to multi-path distortion and great power decrease, which results in limiting high-speed performance. Multi-beam is an effective technique to compensate for multi-path distortion in a wireless infrared environment. The goal of this paper is to analyze the transmission characteristics by replacing traditional diffuse system (TDS) which contains single wide angle transmitter and single element receiver by system consisting of three-beam transmitter and non-imaging receiver (TNS) attached with compound parabolic concentrator (CPC). In the simulation, we use the recursive model developed by Barry and Kahn and build the scenario based on 10 different cases which have been listed in Table 1. Moreover, we also check the reliability of the TNS diffuse link channel by BER test on the basis of different receiver positions and room sizes. The simulation results not only show the basic transmission characteristics of TNS diffuse link, but also are references to design more efficient and reliable indoor infrared transmission systems.
