  • The single phase switched reluctance motor has been studied and developed actively in the various applications with several kinds and forms because of the developments of the design technique by using the computer and of the driving technique power electronic technology, which has the merits of a simple and robust structure, and first of all reducing the number of the switching devices in comparison with poly phase switched reluctance motor. And also, the studies are making progess to substitute the switched reluctance motor for single phase induction motor. In the previous studies, the single phase switched reluctance motor for the drive of blower is designed with the design theory of the conventional rotating electric machine and poly phase switched reluctance motor. In this paper, we intend to select the optimal pole arc and pole pitch ratio by the FEM analysis, because the pole arc and pole pitch are very important factor to determine the characteristics of switched reluctance motor.

  • A switched reluctance motor (SRM) has very simple structure and robustness. Generally, for driving SRM, several (6-8) switching devices are required. This is weakpoint for reducing the cost of SRM drive. In This paper, we simulate the single phase and three phase SRM, and we compare the performance or single phase SRM with that of three phase SRM through experiment. Finally we suggest the appropriate application of single phase SRM.

  • Switched reluctance motors have received much attention as a driving means for various industrial applications because they have simple construction, low cost and high efficiency. Nevertheless, the requirements of drive converters make it difficult to lower the overall system cost as compared with the DC motor application. Single phase switched reluctance motors (SPSRMs) provide a solution to the high cost problem since the number of switching power devices can be reduced and consequently the trials for application are increased. However, research involving SPSRMs, especially in the area of design work, is insufficient. This paper introduces a novel design methodology of single phase SRM. The design work for SPSRM comprises the determination of many variables such as stator and rotor pole arc as well as on, off and so on. Managing all variable combinations leads to lengthy computation time and a fault in the design process. For that reason, a reliable technique and brief procedure term are required in SPSRM design.

  • In general three position sensors are needed to drive three phases SRM. Single position sensor driving method for three phases Switched Reluctance Motor(SRM) is proposed in this paper. By using single position sensor the cost of SRM is reduced. But position sensor the cost of SRM is reduced. But position detection at the staring is needed for single position sensor driving method. In this paper we propose the active align method to detect the relative position of rotor to three phases and align to the nearest phase. We proved the validity of the method by experiment and compare with other method.

  • A Low cost and variable speed brushless motor drive system with single switch per phase is presented. The motor drive is realized with a novel two-phase flux-reversal-free switched reluctance motor and a split AC two switch converter. The strategy of the controller and the converter for its realization are described. Comparisons between a split AC converter, asymmetric converter, split DC converter, single controllable switch converter, and N+1 converter are performed for its device rating, cost, switching losses and conduction losses, and converter efficiency. The split AC converter is analyzed and simulated to verify the characteristics of the converter circuitry and control feasibility and the simulation results are presented. The efficiency with various loads is numerically estimated and experimentally compared from viewpoint of subsystem and system in details. The focus of this paper is to compare the presented motor drive system to the asymmetric converter system throughout experiments and demonstrate single switch per phase converter having comparable efficiency as the asymmetric converter system.

  • This paper presents Single Phase Switched Reluctance Motor (SPSRM) optimum design for vacuum cleaners using Response Surface Methodology (RSM) to determine geometric parameters, and the 2-D Finite Element Method (FEM) has been coupled with the circuit equations of the driving converter. Additionally, an optimum process for SPSRM has been proposed and peformed with geometric and electric parameters thereby influencing the inductance variation and effective torque generation as design variables. SPSRM performances have also been analyzed to determine an optimal design model for maximized efficiency at high power factor. In order to confirm the propriety of the Finite Element Method and motor performance calculation, simulation waveform and experiment waveform for motor voltage and current were compared.

  • Single phase switched reluctance motor has a high speed capability, due to its very robust rotor, and requires only one electronic power switch in its control circuitry. The latter feature considerably reduces the cost of the drive system. But it involves starting problem and strongly torque ripple, which means that the motor is not suitable for application that require constant torque or speed. To solve torque ripple and region of these problem, this paper presents a single phase Switched Reluctance Motor model with a barrier rotor pole. Also it is simulated the designed prototype model by FEM for the prediction of characteristics.

  • This paper presents a new sensorless control method for single-phase switched reluctance motors using induced electromotive force (EMF) due to the residual flux both on the stator and the rotor during phase commutation. The induced EMF falls to zero when the rotor pole moves away from the overlap with the stator pole. By detecting this instant, the speed and position of the rotor can be simply estimated. This method is very simple to implement and it is insensitive to variations in the system parameters as it does not require any stored magnetic data or offline inductance measurements but requires only measurements of the terminal voltage and a simple analog circuit. The proposed method is implemented on a 6/6 single-phase switched reluctance motor. However, it can also be implemented on a multiphase SRM regardless of the size, operation speed and switching mode of the motor hence making the proposed method viable to many applications. Simulation and experimental verification is provided to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
