  • This paper describes the development of a small 6-axis force/moment sensor for robot's finger, which measures farces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously. In order to safely grasp an unknown object using the robot's gripper, and accurately perceive the position of it in the gripper, it should measure the force in the gripping direction, the force in the gravity direction and the moments each direction, and perform the force control using the measured forces and moments. Also, it should detect the moments Mx (x-direction moment), My and Mz to accurately perceive the position of the object in the grippers. Thus, the robot's gripper should be composed of 6-axis force/moment sensor that can measure forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously. In this paper, the small 6-axis force/moment sensor for measuring forces Fx, Fy, Fz, and moments Mx, My, Mz simultaneously was newly modeled using several parallel-plate beams, designed, and fabricated. The characteristic test for the developed sensor was performed, and the result shows that intereference errors of the developed sensor are less than 4.23%. Thus, the developed small 6-axis force/moment sensor may be used a robot's gripper.

  • Since the operation of the first satellite-based navigation service, satellite positioning has played an increasing role in both surveying and geodesy, and has become an indispensable tool for precise relative positioning. However, in some situations, e.g. at a low angle of elevation, the use of satellites for navigation is seriously restricted because obstacles like buildings and mountains can block signals. As a mean to resolve this problem, the quasi-zenith satellite system has been proposed as a next-generation satellite navigation system. Quasi-zenith satellite is a system which simultaneously deploys several satellites in a quasi-zenith geostationary orbit so that one of the satellites always stay close to the zenith if viewed from a specific point on the ground of East Asia. Thus, if a position measurement function compatible with CPS is installed in the quasi-zenith and stationary satellites, and these satellites are utilized together with the CPS, four satellites can be accessed simultaneously nearly all day long and a substantial improvement in position measurement, especially in metropolitan areas, can be achieved. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate the effectiveness of quasi-zenith satellite system on positioning accuracy improvement through simulation by using precise orbital information of the satellites and a three-dimensional digital map. Through this developed simulation system, it is possible to calculate the number of simultaneously visible satellites and available area for positioning without the need of actual observation. Furthermore, this system can calculate the Dilution Of Precision (DOP) and the error distribution.

  • In this paper, an efficient signal tracking method to simultaneously track both GPS L1 C/A and Galileo E1B CBOC(6,1,1/11) using a low cost GPU is proposed. In the existing method that each GNSS signal is processed within 1 ms, more than 2 ms processing time is required in GPU to process 4 ms CBOC signal. It means that real time operation is possible if only Galileo E1B CBOC signal is concerned. But when both GPS C/A and Galileo CBOC is required, it cannot process GPS C/A signal in real time. To process 1 ms GPS C/A and 4 ms Galileo CBOC signal in real time, 4 ms Galileo CBOC signal is divided into 4 by 1 ms signal block in the proposed method. Specially, a buffer that simultaneously manages 1 ms and 4 ms signals is designed. In addition, a module that accumulates the 1 ms correlation value of the Galileo CBOC by 4 ms and passes it to the PLL and DLL is implemented. The operation and performance are evaluated with real measurements in the GPU based SDR. The experimental results show that tracking of more than 16 satellites of GPS C/A and Galileo E1B is possible using the proposed method.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyze the results of surgical treatment of patients with brain and torso injury for 5 years in a single regional trauma center. Methods: We analyzed multiple trauma patients who underwent brain surgery and torso surgery for chest or abdominal injury simultaneously or sequentially among all 14,175 trauma patients who visited Dankook University Hospital Regional Trauma Center from January 2015 to December 2019. Results: A total of 25 patients underwent brain surgery and chest or abdominal surgery, with an average age of 55.4 years, 17 men and eight women. As a result of surgical treatment, there were 14 patients who underwent the surgery on the same day (resuscitative surgery), of which five patients underwent surgery simultaneously, four patients underwent brain surgery first, and one patient underwent chest surgery first, four patients underwent abdominal surgery first. Among the 25 treated patients, the 10 patients died, which the cause of death was five severe brain injuries and four hemorrhagic shocks. Conclusions: In multiple damaged patients require both torso surgery and head surgery, poor prognosis was associated with low initial Glasgow Coma Scale and high Injury Severity Score. On the other hand, patients had good prognosis when blood pressure was maintained and operation for traumatic brain injury was performed first. At the same time, patients who had operation on head and torso simultaneously had extremely low survival rates. This may be associated with secondary brain injury due to low perfusion pressure or continuous hypotension and the traumatic coagulopathy caused by massive bleeding.

  • Auscultation of heart sounds using a stethoscope is the basic method to diagnose the cardiovascular disease and observation of abnormalities. However, the heart sound transmitted to the ear through the stethoscope is greatly affected by internal sounds such as organ movement or breathing. In addition, the user's experience significantly influences the accuracy of the auscultation result. Therefore, in this paper, we developed a wearable device that simultaneously measures heart sound and PPG signals for cardiac condition monitoring. The structure of the proposed device is designed to simultaneously measure heart sound and PPG signals when worn on a finger and placed on the chest. A prototype was implemented according to the design structure, and it was confirmed that the performance of measurements and collection for physiological signals was excellent through experiments.

  • Computer Automated Radioactive Particle Tracking (CARPT) technique has been successfully utilized to measure the velocity profiles and mixing parameters in different multiphase flow systems where a single radioactive tracer is used to track the tagged phase. However, many industrial processes use a wide range of particles with different physical properties where solid particles could vary in size, shape and density. For application in such systems, the capability of current single tracer CARPT can be advanced to track more than one particle simultaneously. Tracking multiple particles will thus enable to track the motion of particles of different size shape and density, determine segregation of particles and probing particle interactions. In this work, a newly developed Multiple Radioactive Particle Tracking technique (M-RPT) used to track two different radioactive tracers is demonstrated. The M-RPT electronics was developed that can differentiate between gamma counts obtained from the different radioactive tracers on the basis of their gamma energy peak. The M-RPT technique was validated by tracking two stationary and moving particles (Sc-46 and Co-60) simultaneously. Finally, M-RPT was successfully implemented to track two phases, solid and liquid, simultaneously in three phase slurry bubble column reactors.

  • Multivariate cumulative sum (CUSUM) control charts for simultaneously monitoring both means and variances under multivariate normal process are investigated. Performances of multivariate CUSUM schemes are evaluated for matched fixed sampling interval (FSI) and variable sampling interval (VSI) features in terms of average time to signal (ATS), average number of samples to signal (ANSS). Multivariate Shewhart charts are also considered to compare the properties of multivariate CUSUM charts. Numerical results show that presented CUSUM charts are more efficient than the corresponding Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts and VSI feature with two sampling intervals is more efficient than FSI feature. When small changes in the production process have occurred, CUSUM chart with small reference values will be recommended in terms of the time to signal.

  • Myelolipoma in the mediastinum is an extremely rare entity. In this report, we present the case of a 79-year-old asymptomatic man who had three bilateral paravertebral mediastinal tumors. The three tumors were resected simultaneously using bilateral three-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS). There has been no evidence of recurrence within four years after the operation. Multiple bilateral mediastinal myelolipomas are extremely rare. There are no reports in the English literature of multiple bilateral thoracic myelolipomas that were resected simultaneously using bilateral VATS. We also present characteristic features of myelolipomas, which are helpful for diagnosis.

  • In this research, we propose a flexible conveying system (FCS) which consists of multiple arrays of cells. Each cell is a wheel driven by a two degree-of-freedom mechanism. The direction and velocity of cell are controlled based on the concept of hybrid control under a distributed network. Each cell has its own controller under a subsumption architecture for low-level control. A cell communicates with its four neighboring cells to manipulate n targeted object towards its desired position. The high-level control assigns a desired position and direction of the object to each cell. The path of each object is generated by many supporting cells. Moreover, the FCS can handle multiple objects simultaneously. To study the flexible conveying system, a GUI-based simulator of flexible conveying system is constructed. The simulated results show that the system can handle multiple objects independently and simultaneously under the proposed hybrid control architecture.
