  • This paper presents a simultaneous optimization approach of case-based reasoning (CBR) using a genetic algorithm(GA) for the prediction of stock price index. Prior research suggested many hybrid models of CBR and the GA for selecting a relevant feature subset or optimizing feature weights. Most studies, however, used the GA for improving only a part of architectural factors for the CBR system. However, the performance of CBR may be enhanced when these factors are simultaneously considered. In this study, the GA simultaneously optimizes multiple factors of the CBR system. Experimental results show that a GA approach to simultaneous optimization of CBR outperforms other conventional approaches for the prediction of stock price index.

  • Many different types of network equipments are deployed in a large-scale IP network. In this operating environment, network service providers suffer from difficulty in controlling various equipments simultaneously in case network faults happen in their overall or regional network due to physical link failure or abnormal traffic. This paper presents a policy-based methodology to control many different types of network equipments at the same time in abnormal cases. The key idea is that NMS(Network Management System) keeps vendor-neutral control policies in normal times and that when an abnormal case occurs in network, NMS transforms the selected policy into vendor-specific control commands and enforces them to various equipments simultaneously.

  • Major parameters determining the extent of Ca utilization were investigated for their calcination/sulfation behavior of limestone in the AFBC(Atmospheric Fluidized Bed Combustion) environments. Three different particle sizes of Fredonia limestone were investigated in the lab-scale tubular reactor. The results of the calcination codnversion of limestone imply that thesd decomposition rate of CaCO3 into CaO is dependent on the amount of heat which limestone absorbed. Hg porosimeter measurement of calcined limestone illustrated that surface area and pore volume are increased with decreasing particle size. Raw Fredonia limestone and sequentially as well as simultaneously calcined/sulfated limestones were also examined using SEM. The SEM Studied showed that the surface of the calcined limestone particles is more diffusive nature than that of the parent calcite. However, the sulfur distribution pattern of simultaneously-treated particles and that of the se-quentially-treated one shows no difference.

  • Satellite and airborne hyperspectral sensor images are suitable for investigating the vegetation state in agricultural land. However, image data obtained by an optical sensor inevitably includes mixels caused by high altitude observation. Therefore, mixel analysis method, which estimates both the pure spectra and the coverage of endmembers simultaneously, is required in order to distinguish the qualitative spectral changes due to the chlorophyll quantity or crop variety, from the quantitative coverage change. In this paper, we apply our agricultural independent component analysis (ICA) model to an airborne hyperspectral sensor image, which includes noise and fluctuation of coverage, and estimate pure spectra and the mixture ratio of crop and soil in agricultural land simultaneously.

  • This experiment was carried out in order to evaluate the immunomodulatory activity of levamisole (LMS) in 5. fgrjn challenged eels with different treatment regimens: 7-day LMS treatment before the challenge, 7-day LMS treatment started simultaneously with the challenge, 14-day treatment before and after the challenge. The antibacterial effect was activated in all treated groups, with the best being obtained in the simultaneously treated group. LMS stimulated the defense mechanisms of the eel as demonstrated by increase in the level of total protein, albumin, trypsin inhibitor capacity, lysozyme activity, antibody titers antibacterial activity and survival rate. These results suggest that antibacterial effects of LMS was achieved by not only non-specific immune response but also specific one in eel.

  • Because an injected spray development process consists of impinging and free spray in the diesel engine, it is needed to analyze the impinging spray and free spray, simultaneously, in order to study the diesel spray behavior. To dominate combustion characteristics in diesel engine is interaction between injected fuel and ambient gas, that is, process of mixture formation. Also it is very important to analyze liquid and vapor phases of injected fuel on the investigation of mixing process, respectively and simultaneously. Therefore, in this study, the behavior characteristics of the liquid phase and the vapor phase of diesel spray was studied by using exciplex fluorescence method in high temperature and injection pressure field. Finally, it can be confirmed that the distribution of vapor concentration is more uniform in the case of the high injection than in that of the low injection pressure.

  • Because of the difference in network structure and loss function, Verification and identification models have their respective advantages and limitations for person reidentification (re-ID). In this work, we propose a multi-task network simultaneously computes the identification loss and verification loss for person reidentification. Given a pair of images as network input, the multi-task network simultaneously outputs the identities of the two images and whether the images belong to the same identity. In experiments, we analyze the major factors affect the accuracy of person reidentification. To address the occlusion problem and improve the generalization ability of reID models, we use the Random Erasing Augmentation (REA) method to preprocess the images. The method can be easily applied to different pre-trained networks, such as ResNet and VGG. The experimental results on the Market1501 datasets show significant and consistent improvements over the state-of-the-art methods.

  • Porous silica-pillared montmorillonites were prepared by simultaneous intercalation of dodecylamine-TEOS [tetraethylorthosilicate, Si(OC2H5)4] into the H-montmorillonite and intragallery amine-catalyzed hydrolysis of TEOS. Mixtures of the H-montmorillonite, dodecylamine and TEOS at molar ratios of 1 : 2 : 15-30 and 1 : 2-6 : 20 resulted to swollen and viscous gel once at room temperature, allowing intercalation compounds which dodecylamine and TEOS were simultaneously intercalated into interlayer of H-montmorillonite. The hydrolysis of the gallery TEOS was conducted in water solution for 40 min at room temperature, affording siloxane-pillared H-montmorillonite. Calcination of samples at 500 $^{\circ}C$ in air resulted in silica-pillared montmorillonite with large specific surface areas between 403 and 577 m2 /g, depending on the reaction stoichiometry. The reaction at H-montmorillonite : dodecylamine : TEOS reaction stoichiometries of 1 : 2 : 15 and 1 : 4 : 20 resulted in high specific surface areas and mesopores with a narrow pore size distribution. Result indicates that the intragallery-amine catalyze the hydrolysis of gallery-TEOS and simultaneously have a role of gallery-templated micellar assemblies.

  • In this paper, dynamic analysis of a nonlinear active vibration absorber is conducted with a time delay acceleration feedback to suppress the vibration of a nonlinear single degree of freedom primary system. The primary system consisting of linear and nonlinear cubic springs, mass, and damper is subjected to the multi-harmonic hard excitation with a parametric excitation. It is proposed to reduce the vibration of the primary system and the absorber by using a lead zirconate titanate (PZT) stack actuator in series with a spring in the absorber which configures as an active vibration absorber. The method of multiple scales (MMS) is used to obtain the approximate solution of the system under the internal resonance, subharmonic, superharmonic, and principal parametric resonance conditions simultaneously. Frequency and time responses of the system are investigated considering a delay in the feedback for the various parameters of the absorber configuration and controlling force.
