  • In this study, computational demonstrations for the flutter suppression are presented for the 3-DOF airfoil system with oscillating flap. Advanced computational methods such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) are used and a simultaneous coupling method has been developed to accurately conduct flutter analyses. In addition, optimal control theory is integrated into the CFD based flutter analysis method to construct the coupled aeroservoelastic analysis system for the airfoil with oscillating flap. For a well-defined typical section model, fundamental unsteady aerodynamics and flutter characteristics are investigated. Finally, to show the effectiveness of flutter control the physical aeroelastic responses are directly compared between the open loop and the closed loop systems.

  • The effect of circadian rhythm on cyclosporine pharmacokinetics was studied in rabbits after oral administration of 10 mg/kg dose of cyclosporine at 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. The blood concentration data were subjected to simultaneous computer nonlinear least squares regression analysis using a 1-compartment pharmacokinetic model. The blood concentrations of cyclosporine at 10:00 a. m. were increased significantly during 2-6 hr compared to those at 10:00 p.m. The area under the blood concentration-time curve (AUC) and peak concentration $(C_{max})$ of cyclosporine at 10:00 a.m. were increased significantly compared to those at 10:00 p.m. The mean total body clearance (CL) of cyclosporine at 10:00 a.m. were decreased significantly compared to those at 10:00 p.m. It is reasonable to consider individual circadian rhythm for effective dosage regimen of cyclosporine in therapeutics.

  • Time history analysis is usually performed to characterize the nonlinear seismic behavior of a spent fuel storage rack(SFSR). In the past, the seismic analyses of the SFSR were performed with two-dimensional planar models, which could not account for torsional response and simultaneous multi-directional seismic input In this study, three-dimensional seismic analysis methodology is developed for the single SFSR using the ANSYS code. The 3D- Model can be used to determine the nonlinear behavior of the rack, i.e., sliding, uplifting, and impact evaluation between the fuel assembly and rack, and rack and the pool wall, This paper also reviews the 3-D modeling of the SFSR and the adequacy of the ANSYS for the seismic analysis. AS a result of the adquacy study, the method of ANSYS transient analysis with acceleration time history is suitable for the seismic analysis of highly nonlinear structure such as an SFSR but it isn't appropriate to use displacement time history of seismic input.

  • This paper presents an improved time series based damage detection approach with experimental verifications for detection, localization, and quantification of damage in shear-type structures under varying mass effects using output-only vibration data. The proposed method can be very effective for automated monitoring of buildings to develop proactive maintenance strategies. In this method, Auto-Regressive Moving Average models with eXogenous inputs (ARMAX) are built to represent the dynamic relationship of different sensor clusters. The damage features are extracted based on the relative difference of the ARMAX model coefficients to identify the existence, location and severity of damage of stiffness and mass separately. The results from a laboratory-scale shear type structure show that different damage scenarios are revealed successfully using the approach. At the end of this paper, the methodology limitations are also discussed, especially when simultaneous occurrence of mass and stiffness damage at multiple locations.

  • This study investigates how affects elicited by visual images in print ads are integrated to form a liking for the ads. Assuming a sequential rather than simultaneous processing of still-cut images, we adopt the 'think-aloud' method to capture consumers' spontaneous responses to visual images. We hypothesize that not only would consumers show mixed affects toward a still-cut visual image but that they would also integrate their serial affects heuristically rather than simply averaging the affects as suggested by the compensatory hypothesis. By comparing the effects of two contradictory affect integration hypotheses (i.e., peak-affect and mood-maintenance) with compensatory integration, using a single regression model, we found that peak-negative along with mood maintenance integration of serial affects for a print ad works best in the formation of ad liking. The results also support our initial premise that people can have mixed valence even toward a still-cut ad.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the substitution among production factors of Korean distant water longline fisheries in IATTC waters. In the analysis, the translog function which have one output variable of total cost and input variables of labor, fuel, fishing gear, and capital was established and it was transformed into simultaneous equations by each cost. Then, variables of equations were estimated by SUR (seemingly unrelated regression) model. Since distant water longline fisheries is a fishing type with high fuel usage, substitution of fuel with other factors was mainly analyzed. Results showed a substitute relation between fuel and labor as well as fuel and fishing gear, while a complementary relation between fuel and capital. In addition, it was analyzed that magnitude of fuel elasticity with other factors would be inelastic.

  • CRISPR-Cas system is being used as a powerful genome editing tool with developments focused on enhancing its efficiency and accuracy. Recently, the miniature CRISPR-Cas12f1 system, which is small enough to be easily loaded onto various vectors for cellular delivery, has gained attention. In this study, we explored the influence of temperature conditions on multiplex genome editing using CRISPR-Cas12f1 in an Escherichia coli model. It was revealed that when two distinct targets in the genome are edited simultaneously, the editing efficiency can be enhanced by allowing cells to recover at a reduced temperature during the editing process. Additionally, employing 3'-end truncated sgRNAs facilitated the simultaneous single-nucleotide level editing of three targets. Our results underscore the potential of optimizing recovery temperature and sgRNA design protocols in developing more effective and precise strategies for multiplex genome editing across various organisms.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct an outlook model that is consistent with the "Fisheries Outlook" monthly published by the Fisheries Outlook Center of the Korea Maritime Institute(KMI). In particular, it was designed as a partial equilibrium model limited to abalone items, but a model was constructed with a dynamic ecological equation model(DEEM) system taking into account biological breeding and shipping time. The results of this study are significant in that they can be used as basic data for model development of various items in the future. In this study, due to the limitation of monthly data, the market equilibrium price was calculated by using the recursive model construction method to be calculated directly as an inverse demand. A model was built in the form of a structural equation model that can explain economic causality rather than a conventional time series analysis model. The research results and implications are as follows. As a result of the estimation of the amount of young seashells planting, it was estimated that the coefficient of the amount of young seashells planting from the previous year was estimated to be 0.82 so that there was no significant difference in the amount of young seashells planting this year and last year. It is also meant to be nurtured for a long time after aquaculture license and limited aquaculture area(edge style) and implantation. The economic factor, the coefficient of price from last year was estimated at 0.47. In the case of breeding quantity, it was estimated that the longer the breeding period, the larger the coefficient of breeding quantity in the previous period. It was analyzed that the impact of shipments on the breeding volume increased. In the case of shipments, the coefficient of production price was estimated unelastically. As the period of rearing increased, the estimation coefficient decreased. Such result indicates that the expected price, which is an economic factor variable and that had less influence on the intention to shipments. In addition, the elasticity of the breeding quantity was estimated more unelastically as the breeding period increased. This is also correlated with the relative coefficient size of the expected price. The abalone supply and demand forecast model developed in this study is significant in that it reduces the prediction error than the existing model using the ecological equation modeling system and the economic causal model. However, there are limitations in establishing a system of simultaneous equations that can be linked to production and consumption between industries and items. This is left as a future research project.

  • Due to climate change and its consequential spring temperature rise, flowering time of Robinia pseudoacacia has advanced and a simultaneous blooming phenomenon occurred in different regions in South Korea. These changes in flowering time became a major crisis in the domestic beekeeping industry and the demand for accurate prediction of flowering time for R. pseudoacacia is increasing. In this study, we developed and compared performance of four different models predicting flowering time of R. pseudoacacia for the entire country: a Single Model for the country (SM), Modified Single Model (MSM) using correction factors derived from SM, Group Model (GM) estimating parameters for each region, and Local Model (LM) estimating parameters for each site. To achieve this goal, the bloom date data observed at 26 points across the country for the past 12 years (2006-2017) and daily temperature data were used. As a result, bloom dates for the north central region, where spring temperature increase was more than two-fold higher than southern regions, have advanced and the differences compared with the southwest region decreased by 0.7098 days per year (p-value=0.0417). Model comparisons showed MSM and LM performed better than the other models, as shown by 24% and 15% lower RMSE than SM, respectively. Furthermore, validation with 16 additional sites for 4 years revealed co-krigging of LM showed better performance than expansion of MSM for the entire nation (RMSE: p-value=0.0118, Bias: p-value=0.0471). This study improved predictions of bloom dates for R. pseudoacacia and proposed methods for reliable expansion to the entire nation.

  • To commonly apply the ${\ulcorner}$Measurement parameter for housewives for rearing-related supports of a husband${\lrcorner}$ in Korea and Japan, the current study conducted to confirm the relationship between recognition of a housewife for rearing-related supports of a husband and mental health after reviewing the appropriateness of the parameter. For the statistical analysis, 829 married Korean women in D city and 1,302 Japanese women in S city having children before entering a school were subjected for the study. For reviewing the appropriateness of the parameter, the simultaneous factor analysis that adopted the structural equation modeling was used. As the result of the analysis, 10 categories of factor structural model comprising the ${\ulcorner}$Recognition of a housewife for rearing-related supports of a husband${\lrcorner}$ resulted with the secondary model which sets of ${\ulcorner}$Recognition for emotional support${\lrcorner}$, ${\ulcorner}$Recognition for instrumental support${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$Recognition for information support${\lrcorner}$ as the primary factor and ${\ulcorner}$Recognition of a housewife for rearing-related supports of a husband${\lrcorner}$ as the secondary factor, and the model was found to be appropriate for the data in Korea and Japan. The result is considered to prove the constructs validity of ${\ulcorner}$Recognition of a housewife for rearing-related supports of a husband${\lrcorner}$ parameter. In addition, the relationship between ${\ulcorner}$Recognition of a housewife for rearing-related supports of a husband${\lrcorner}$ and mental health(GHQ) was reviewed by using multiple indicator model, and found the similarity of Korean and Japanese data. The scores measured by using the above parameter resulted to show high relationship with educational level of housewife, family configuration, and number of children.
