  • It is important to measure precisely the size and velocity of micro-bubbles used in various field. The synchrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique was employed to measure the size and velocity of micro-bubbles moving in an opaque tube simultaneously. Phase contrast images were obtained at interfaces of micro-bubbles between water and air due to their different refractive indices. The X-ray micro-imaging technique was found to measure an optical fiber with an accuracy of 0.2%. Micro-bubbles of 20∼60$\mu\textrm{m}$ diameter moving upward in an opaque tube (${\Phi}$=2.7mm) were tested to measure bubble size and up-rising velocity. For DI water, the measured velocity of micro-bubbles is nearly proportional to the square of bubble size, agreed well with the theoretical result. In addition, the synchrotron X-ray micro-imaging technique can measure accurately the size and velocity of several overlapped micro-bubbles.

  • Experiments are performed to study the mixed convection flow and heat transfer in an inclined parallel plates with the upper part cooled and the lower part heated uniformly. The Reynolds number ranges from $4.0{\times}10^{-3}\;to\;6.2{\times}10^{-2}$, the angle of inclination, ${\theta}$, from 0 to 45 degree from the horizontal line, and Pr of the high viscosity fluid is 909. In this paper, the PIV(Particle image velocimetry) with TLC(Thermo-sensitive liquid crystal) tracers is used for visualizing and analysis. This method allows simultaneous measurement of velocity and temperature field at a given instant of time. Quantitative data of the temperature and velocity are obtained by applying the color-image processing to a visualized image, and neural network is applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. This paper describes the methods, and presents the quantitative visualization of mixed convection. From this study, it is found that the flow pattern can be classified into three patterns which are affected by Reynolds number and the angle of inclination.

  • Experiment and numerical calculation have been peformed to investigate mixed convection heat transfer between inclined parallel plates. Particle image velocimetry (PIV) with thermo-sensitive liquid crystal (TLC) tracers is used for visualizing and analysis. This method allows simultaneous measurement of velocity and temperature fields at a given instant of time. Quantitative data of the temperature and velocity are obtained by applying the color-image processing to a visualized image, and neural network is applied to the color-to-temperature calibration. The governing equations are discretized using the finite volume method. The results are presented for the Reynolds number ranges from 0.004 to 0.062, the angle of inclination, ${\Theta}$, from 0 to 45 degree and Prandtl number of the high viscosity fluid is 909. The results show velocity, temperature and mean Nusselt numbers distributions. It is found that the periodic flow of mixed convection between inclined parallel plates is shown at $0^{\circ}{\leq}{\Theta}<30^{\circ}$, Re<0.062, and the flow pattern can be classified into three patterns which depend on Reynolds number and the angle of inclination. The minimum Nusselt numbers occur at Re=0.05 regardless of the angle of inclination.

  • The Korean VLBI Network (KVN) as a world-first multi-frequency VLBI system is operated at four bands of 22, 43, 86, and 129 GHz simultaneously. The performances of both single dish and VLBI network were already confirmed through single dish researches and VLBI evaluation test observations. The VLBI common use of the KVN at 22/43 GHz bands has been started from this autumn. The combined network of KVN and Japanese VERA (KaVA) will start the common use from the first half of next year. Here we present several observational results in the fields of star forming regions, late-type stars, and active galactic nuclei using the KVN and KaVA. The fringes of 44 GHz $CH_3OH$ (Class I) masers were detected from 26 sources for the first time using the KVN and imaging observations are under performing. Simultaneous observations of SiO and $H_2O$ masers toward about 1000 evolved stars showed the different maser properties between SiO and $H_2O$ masers according to the evolutionary stages of AGB and post-AGB stars. The catalog of correlated flux densities were established from a 43 GHz (Q-band) survey of 637 extragalactic sources. At 22 GHz (K-band), flux density measurement and fringe survey for new sources were performed toward a large number of sources. In addition, the large program of KVN and/or KaVA under planning is introduced.

  • Simultaneous control of blowers and heat exchangers affecting the air sealing and flow conditions inside the green house is essential to the management of $CO_2$ concentration. Currently, the demand for automation systems and integrated control is steadily increasing according to increasing of farm areas per person due to the reduction of agricultural population. This paper proposes the integrated control system that can control simultaneously the existing devices such as measurement switching devices which are important variables in the supply of $CO_2$, $CO_2$ generator fuel and combustion air mixture ratio(air-to-fuel ratio), and $CO_2$ supply control under internal and external conditions.

  • The most important requirement for the automotive radars is the simultaneous target range and velocity measurement under environment of multi-target, clutters, multi-path, and so on. If the many vehicles with 77GHz FMCW(Frequency Modulation Continuous Wave) radar system are in the near area we should consider the interference signals occurred by other radar systems because these signals reduce exact detection of range and velocity. In this paper, we propose the interference cancellation method, which each vehicle radar transmits chirp trains with the different frequency sweep shapes. The proposed method is applied into the various applications such as an intelligent vehicle, Robot, and UGV(Unmanned Ground Vehicle).

  • A simultaneous measurement of the wall skin friction and near-wall streamwise velocity fluctuations is performed using hot film and hot wire anemometers to investigate the relation between them. Near-wall turbulence statistics measured with a hot-wire probe are in good agreement with previous results. Turbulence properties of the wall skin friction fluctuations measured with a hot film also show fairly good agreements with those measured by others except that rms level is lower in the present study. Long-time averaged space- time correlations show that the wall skin friction is highly correlated with a turbulence structure which is tilted from the wall in the streamwise direction. Tilting angles are obtained from the phase shifts between the wall skin-friction and streamwise velocity fluctuations. The convection velocity of the near-wall streamwise velocity obtained from the space-time correlation is in good agreement with that from the direct numerical simulation database.

  • The characteristics of combustion process in an internal combustion engine are affected by the mixing process between injected fuel and ambient gas. Therefore, it is necessary to understand the mixture formation process of diesel spray. In this study, the spray structure was visualized by the exciplex fluorescence method, which can provide the simultaneous 2-D images of vapor and liquid phase in inner spray. For accurate investigation, the liquid-phase images were recorded with a 35mm still camera and CCD camera. Consequentially, it could be confirmed that the high-concentration vapor phase is formed in the region of spray tip and the edge of the liquid phase where droplets exist in the evaporating diesel spray, and the formed vapor is spread by diffusion. Also, the distribution of vapor is determined by the motion of droplets that exist in the edge of the liquid phase and the spray-tip region.

  • A semi-empirical correlation has been developed for adiabatic interfacial friction factors in a long horizontal air-water countercurrent stratified flow conditions. Using a pipe and duct test sections, a series of experiments hate been conducted varying non-dimensional water depth and flow rates of air. On the basis of simultaneous measurement of the main flow parameters in a horizontal pipe and a duct, a semi-empirical correlation for the interfacial friction factor in a stratified flow regime has been developed employing a new concept of surface roughness in wavy flow. A total of 201 data point, including 15 concurrent pipe flow test data of others, have been used in the present analysis. A comparison between the data and the predictions of the present correlation shows that the agreement is within $\pm$30%.

  • Purpose: After surgical interventions of mandible fractures, facial asymmetry can be occurred, and it leads to serious problems for patients. This can be solved by mandible angle ostectomy. Methods: A 19-year-old male underwent percutaneous surgical intervention for left mandibular angle and right parasymphyseal fractures 3.5 years ago. The left angle was protruded compared to the other side. Using a percutaneous approach, $4.5{\times}1cm$ sized piece of mandible angle was sawed off. For the right angle, intraoral approach was performed for angle ostectomy, and the angle was sawed off by a size of $4{\times}1cm$, using a pattern based on the piece from the left side. Results: After surgery, no complications such as subcondylar fractures, refractures, insufficient corrections, secondary angle formations, hematomas, and transient nerve palsies were seen, and symmetric correction of mandible angles were done. Conclusion: In facial asymmetries due to mandibular fractures, mandible ostectomy could be a solution. Using the bone section from the contralateral side, measurement of the amount of bone sawed off was possible, and via percutaneous approach on the previously operated site with simultaneous scar revision, and intraoral approach for the contralateral side, cosmetically satisfactory result was obtained.
