Purpose: Incorporating simulation modalities into nursing education is known to be effective in enhancing education outcomes. Standardizing the nomenclature of simulation modalities and developing a comprehensive conceptual framework for guiding the development of simulation modules are mandated given the prevalence and disorganization of simulation education. This article, thus, was aimed to summarize literature and propose a conceptual framework for structuralizing simulation education in Korea. Methods: A comprehensive literature review on CINAHL, PubMed, RISS, KISS, DBpia and renowned Korean nursing journals was conducted including articles from 2002 to 2011. Results: The nomenclature of simulation modalities was clarified and summarized. Twenty-eight studies on the effects of simulation education were summarized in a table demonstrating the state of the science in simulation research. In addition, 'a conceptual framework for three-dimensional nursing simulation education' was proposed, described in detail, and diagramed. According to 'the 3D simulation framework', each three axes, i.e., the scope of practice, complexity, and student competency, has three phases in accomplishing a high level of competency. Conclusion: The proposed '3D simulation framework' is hoped to be a theoretical guide in designing a clinical curriculum utilizing simulation and developing detailed simulation modules in clinical practicum courses.
Purpose: This study was to identify and define the concept of a facilitator and specific attributes for providing basic data on simulation nursing education. Methods: Using Walker and Avant's (2005) criteria that identify the attributes, antecedents, and consequences of facilitators in simulation nursing education, the findings of research articles published from 2001 to 2017 were reviewed. Results: There were three aspects of the facilitator concept in simulation nursing education: (1) continuous support throughout the entire simulation process; (2) skilled progress based on clinical expertise; (3) guidance for learners to actively understand and reflect on the situation. Conclusion: This concept analysis helps us to better understand better facilitators in simulation nursing education.
Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the impact of rapid cycle deliberate practice (RCDP) simulation education on advanced cardiac life support knowledge, confidence, satisfaction, and performance ability among paramedic students, and provide basic data on the appropriate methods of educational instruction. Methods: The 48 subjects to be instructed were divided into the traditional simulation education group and the RCDP simulation education group. Six participants were randomly assigned to each group and pre-surveyed. They were then exposed to a lecture about advanced cardiac life support related theories for 60 min and post-surveyed through questionnaires with the same learning goals and scenarios. Results: The advanced cardiac life support knowledge (t=-4.813, p=.000) and performance ability (t=-2.903, p=.006) were significantly different between the traditional simulation education and RCDP simulation education groups The results also showed a significant difference in attach monitor (z=6.857, p=.009), analyze EKG rhythm (z=11.111, p=.001), and defibrillation (z=12.632, p=.000), indicating differences in performance capabilities between the two groups. Conclusion: To improve advanced cardiac life support knowledge, performance ability, and confidence in the paramedic students who receive RCDP simulation education, simulation education methods that are appropriate for the subjects being taught, and detailed learning goals and feedback are necessary.

This study is a pilot study to confirm the effectiveness of training after applying emergency simulation training for inactive nurses and to present a new model of simulation training operation method. In this study, the control group is a group that directly participates in the simulation activity, and the experimental group is the group that observes the control group's simulation activity. Experimental group and control group were matched 1:1 to experience all the roles of the resuscitation team. The study participants were 5 inactive nurses in the experimental group and 5 inactive nurses in the control group, and the total training time was 5 hours. The emergency simulation operation composition consists of theory education, skill education, and simulation. The interview was conducted. The educational satisfaction of the participants was 4.65 points for theory education and 4.70 points for practical education based on 5 points. Participants' performance confidence improved from 3.60 points before operation to 7.20 points after operation. Emergency simulation operation consisted of pre-test, theory education, skill education, simulation implementation, debriefing, and post-test. Participants expressed that the choice of group greatly reduced the burden and anxiety about performing the role of the resuscitation team. However, difficulties and inexperience in the operation of the defibrillator were reported in the experimental group. The control group reported that the simulation activity of the experimental group was not significantly different from theirs. Through the results of this study, it was confirmed that emergency simulation education not only reduced the burden and anxiety of inactive nurses, but also had an effect of education. Based on the research results, it is proposed to expand the participants and verify the effectiveness of education through specific variables such as learning commitment, learner confidence, simulation satisfaction, and team effectiveness.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of nursing simulation-based practice education on learning outcome and teaching experience in nursing students. Pretest-posttest design with nonequivalent control group was utilized to analyze the effects of nursing simulation-based practice education. The subjects were 96 students of a nursing college. All subjects participated in 6 week. The data were analyzed by the SPSS win 17.0 program. The results were as follows; There were statistically significant differences in learning outcome and teaching experience effects of nursing simulation-based practice education in nursing students. In conclusion, we required nursing simulation-based practice education and small group discussion analysis of factors are associated with goal-setting skills and self-presentation skills, goal setting skills. We required nursing simulation-based practice education training to strengthen the ability of self-directed learning program utilizing the repeated study.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects size of simulation education targeting korean nurses and nursing students. Methods: Meta-analysis was conducted with 48 papers in domestic master and doctorate degree dissertations and academic journals from 2000 to 2014. Results: The entire effect size in simulation education was relevant to big effect size. Regarding the effect size of individual variables, nurse was identified to have biggest effect size in study subject, standardized patient was identified to have biggest effect size in simulation methods and pediatric nursing was identified to have biggest effect size in study subjects. Effect size in each effect variable was highest in psychomotor domain. Conclusion: This study identified the effect size of simulation education and provided the basic data to contribute to the quality improvement of simulation education which is based on the reasons.
The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of simulation-based education regarding care in a cardio-pulmonary emergency care as related to knowledge, critical thinking, and problem solving ability in nursing students. The study was conducted with a nonequivalent control group pre-posttest design. Seventy four participants were assigned to either the experimental group(34) or control group(40). The simulation-based cardio-pulmonary emergency care education included lecture, team-based practice, and debriefing, and it was implemented with the experimental group for a week from September 1 to December 11, 2015. Data were analyzed using chi-square, t-test and ANCOVA by using SPSS 21.0 program. The experimental group who had the simulation-based education showed significantly higher knowledge(F=24.930, p<.001), and critical thinking(F=5.951, p<.05) for cardio-pulmonary emergency care compared with the control group who had traditional education. However, there were no significant differences in problem solving ability(F=3.327, p>.072). The results indicate that a simulation-based education is an effective teaching method to improve knowledge and critical thinking in nursing students learning cardio-pulmonary emergency care. Further study is needed to identify the effect of a simulation-based team positive education program of nursing students.
Objective: This study is a single-group pre-post experimental study to determine the effects of simulation-based practice education on nursing students' self-efficacy, performance confidence, and educational satisfaction. Design: Single-group pre-post experimental studies Methods: This study was conducted from September 1, 2023 to November 30, 2023 for nursing undergraduate students in a simulation based practical education program. The subjects were provided with learning materials about an acute myocardial infarction case with chest pain for preliminary learning. After that, they were divided into teams of 6 people and asked to do self-study for 2 hours per team, twice a week, before conducting simulation practice. For the simulation based practical education, the participants were divided into 9 teams of 6 people each, and each team had 10 minutes for orientation, 15 minutes for scenario operation, and 50 minutes for debriefing. Results: After the simulation based practical education, self-efficacy increased statistically significantly from a mean of 3.51 before training to a mean of 3.80 after training (t=-2.12, p=0.038). However, there was no significant difference in performance confidence. There was a significant positive correlation between self-efficacy and performance confidence (r=0.62, p<0.001) and training satisfaction (r=0.67, p<0.001) after the simulation based practical education. Self-confidence was also significantly correlated with educational satisfaction (r=0.76, p<0.001). Conclusions: The results of this study showed that utilizing simulation-based practical education can increase nursing students' self-efficacy, which positively affects their performance confidence and educational satisfaction. Therefore, simulation-based practical education is an effective nursing education method that can improve nursing students' practical skills.
Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effects of simulation-based education on communication skill and clinical competence in maternity nursing practicum. Methods: This study used a non-equivalent control pretest-posttest design.
