  • A noise simulation software is developed to estimate crosstalk and reflection noise in multi-layer printed circuit boards having upto 20 layers and carrying signals of 100 MHz range. The simulation software can handle up to 1000 nets yielding accurate noise value associated with each net. The calculation results can be used to build optimal printed citcuit boards used in high speed computers and telecommunication equipments.

  • Open Science is evolving not only to share research results, but also to open the research process. We are developing the EDISON platform for the spread of open science in computational science and engineering. The EDISON platform provides online simulation services developed by computational science and engineering researchers. It also provides an environment for sharing source code, data, and related research publications. An effective simulation software registration management system is required for successful service on the EDISON platform. In this paper, we proposes a simulation software management system to provide online simulation service through EDISON platform. The proposed system allows the developer to register the simulation software on the EDISON platform without administrator intervention and effectively build a web-based simulation environment.

  • It is very difficult to acquire high-fidelity flight test data for small airplanes such as typical unmanned aerial vehicles because MEMS-type small sensors used in the tests do not present reliable data in general. Besides, it is not practical to conduct expensive flight tests for low-cost small airplanes in order to simulate their flight characteristics. A practical approach to obtain acceptable flight data, including stability and control derivatives and data of weight and balance, is proposed in this study. Aircraft design software such as Darcorp's AAA is used to generate aerodynamic data for small airplanes, and moments of inertia are calculated using CATIA, structural design software. These flight data from simulation software are evaluated subjectively and tailored using simulation flight by experienced pilots, based on the certified procedures in FAA AC 120-45A and 40B, which are used for manned airplane simulators.

  • The power flow analysis of electrified railway is required complicated calculation, because of variable load. Train runs trough rail supplied by electric power therefore, the load value in electrified railway system fluctuates along time. The power flow algorithm in electrified railway system is different from general power system, and the power flow simulation is peformed by the particular simulation software. Powerail is simulation software for analysis of traction power supply system developed by KRRI, in 2008. This consists of load forecasting module, including TPS and time scheduling, and power flow module. This software was verified by measured current under normal feeding condition, however, has not been verified by voltage on the condition of extended feeding. This paper presents the verification of PowerRail based on voltage drop under extended feeding condition. This is performed by comparing simulation result with field test. Field test and simulation is done in commercial railway line.

  • Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have received much attention from the nuclear industry as an alternative platform to programmable logic controllers for digital instrumentation and control. The software aspect of FPGA development consists of several steps of synthesis and refinement, and also requires verification activities, such as simulations that are performed individually at each step. This study proposed an integrated software-testing framework for simulating all artifacts of the FPGA software development simultaneously and evaluating whether all artifacts work correctly using common oracle programs. This method also generates a massive number of meaningful simulation scenarios that reflect reactor shutdown logics. The experiment, which was performed on two FPGA software implementations, showed that it can dramatically save both time and costs.

  • This research aims to perform the simulation of self-adaptive lighting control software, and to evaluate the performance of the implemented system. In this text, Self-adaptive software means what detects unexpected changes in surrounding environment by self-monitoring during its run-time, and satisfies demanded condition by adjusting its operation. This is a research about the lighting control system which is operating with the fundamental of self-adaptation concept in IoT(Internet of Things) environment. The system, which is proposed in this text, operates adaptation onto the request of a defined user as recognizing the changes of surrounding environment. This text introduces a relating simulation scenario, system architecture, architecture valuation basis,, and executed evaluation of performance by processing simulations.

  • According to the actual situation of a university, the emergency evacuation simulation is modeled based on the physical sign, evacuation speed and personnel ratio using the pathfinder software. The experimental construction export utilization rate is compared with the preliminary simulation scenario. The simulation results show that the utilization rate of evacuation stairs and evacuation exits is significantly improved. The optimized solution can provide the most effective evacuation passage, and the research results can provide the basis for the rational planning and management of evacuation passage in university experiment building.

  • Use of various lighting simulation software has been increased Lighting simulation software can be categorized into two types. One is for optical design while the other is for estimation and analysis of lighting design. Photopia 2.0 is typical software for optical design of a luminare and Lumen-micro 2000, Relux 2006, Lightscape 3.2 and AGI 32 are software for lighting design. Through using various lighting simulation software some different results can be found under the same conditions. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to compare measured and simulated photometric data of different types of luminaires and to compare simulated values from Lumen-micro 2000, Relux 2006, Lightscape 3.2 and AGI 32 under the same conditions. In addition, the reasons for such differences are analyzed.

  • There has been rising demand within the South Korean government and among various industries in recent years on the need for strengthening the competitiveness of the software industry, which they highlight as being a core element for national competitiveness. This strategy would require enhancing the job competency of software developers. This study's results show that computational thinking (CT), which is one of the more creative solutions to the problem, has a positive effect on the enhancement of software developers' job competency. Furthermore, the study finds that the software development tasks of simulation, algorithms and procedures, and parallelization (in that order) serve as influential elements for software developers, which differs from previous studies' findings. The South Korean government thus should emphasize education in these areas in order to enhance the nation's job competence. Because simulation, especially, has the greatest influence among these areas, there is a particular need to strengthen that area.

  • The importance of software in the engineering field is increasing day by day, so the utilization and understanding of the simulation software in the engineering design stage has become the core competence of the engineer. This study presents a new software education method for multiple systems in the field of mechanical engineering using a workflow execution environment as a sub-module of a computational platform (called EDISON platform) that can incorporate in-house software tools developed by many simulation tool developers. It can execute not only individual software tools such as fluid flow, structure, optimal design, but also conduct connective executions of multiple software tools. Based on this simulation environment, a methodology was proposed that can be applied to convergence types of engineering educations. By properly using this methodology, it is expected that beginning engineers could encourage their specialties understanding the big pictures of the analysis processes.
