Web-Based Simulation under Distributed Environment (분산 환경하에서의 웹기반 시뮬레이션에 관한 연구)

  • This paper introduces the concept of web-based simulation and suggests the structure of web-based simulation which reduces the simulation run time and performs simulations in efficient way under distributed environments. Since its introducing in 1996, web-based simulation has been studied only with a tool of applet, but in this paper a method of server applications for client applets will be used. In server application, server transfers objects requested by clients such as simulation engines, reports, files. After each client connects to web-server, and then server allocates simulation modules to connected clients. These work magnify the transferring applets from server and simulation models which were made by clients. This paper also processes a structure for managing efficiently web-based simulation under distributed environment and steps in which clients connect, model, simulate with distributed structure, and programs of proposed structure.

A Performance Evaluation of Multimedia-on-demand Server Using Simulation Method (시뮬레이션 기법을 이용한 주문형 멀티미디어 서버의 성능 평가)

  • To evaluate the server performance and forecast capacity requirements, we carry out simulation of Multimedia-on-demand(MOD) server. In multimedia service environment, especially for on-demand service, one of the key problems is capacity planning, which requires ensuring that adequate computer resources will be available to meet the future workload demands in a cost-effective manner. In this paper, we design and implement a simulation model for MOD server with failures of components (e.g., processors, disks and networks). By acquisition of utilization and queue length parameters, we can estimate desirable capacity of server components with various arrival rates of customers and failure rates of components. For a given failure probability, we also compute packet delay probability and reliability of the server. It is possible to derive some important design information of the MOD server by using the above parameters.

  • 전력연구원에서는 울진 표준형원전의 시뮬레이터를 개발하였으며, 여기에는 가상 주제어실, 발전소 현상 감시, 중대사고 등 많은 클라이언트 프로그램들이 있다. 이러한 프로그램들은 시뮬레이터와 연동되어 필요한 값을 읽고 쓰는 과정이 필요하다. 그러나 현재는 해당 시뮬레이터 환경에서 개발되지 않는 외부의 응용프로그램이 이들 시뮬레이터의 값들을 엑세스하는 방법은 제공하지 않고 있다. 본 보고서에서는 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 외부 프로그램들이 시뮬레이션모델의 각종 변수들을 효과적으로 엑세스하여 값을 Read/write 할 수 있는 OPC (OLE for Process Control) Server를 개발하였다. 본 프로그램은 Rockwell의 OPC Server Toolkit인 RSI OPC/DDE Server Toolkit Library를 이용하여 개발하였으며 시뮬레이터가 실행되고 있는 컴퓨터에서 실행된다. 본 보고서에서는 OPC 일반개념, 개발한 OPC Server의 소개, OPC Server의 적용결과 등을 기술하고자 한다.

A Design of Real-time VOD Server Simulator (실시간 VOD 서버 시뮬레이터 설계)

  • In recent years, significant advances in computers and communication technologies have made multimedia services feasible. As a result, various queuing models and cost models on architecture and data placement for multimedia server have been proposed. However, these analytical techniques use only probabilistic models to represent the behavior of a system, and then they have several limitations like accuracy. Simulation is a viable alternative to analytical model. It avoids many of the limitations associated with analytical techniques, allowing for more precise representation of system attributes like workload in program code. In this paper, we propose a simulation test bed that can evaluate performance of real-time multimedia server by using simulation model.

  • A distributed server cluster system is a cost-effective system to provide a service application for clients with reliable, scalable, available, and fault-tolerant features. In order to provide high quality services, it is necessary to evaluate service performances, tune the server system, and analyze performances. In this paper, we propose a simulator to generate workloads based on statistic configuration according to estimated application traffics, apply workload scheduling algorithms, and evaluate the simulation results. We introduce the simulator design modelling and architecture. By using flexible parameters, the simulator is able to generate various patterns of workloads with different statistics, and configure system environments such as the number of server nodes, system resources considered, and their capacities. With this simulator, we introduce two scenarios: one is to find appropriate thresholds for the best performance of cluster system, and the other is to find the suitable scheduling algorithm for workload characteristics of service applications.

  • In distributed replicating server model, providing replicated services is able to improve the performance of providing a service and efficiency for several clients. And, the composition of the server selection algorithm is efficiently able to decrease the retrieval time for replicated data. In this paper, we define the system model that selects and connects the replicated server that provides optimal service using server-side downstream measurement and proposes an applicable algorithm.

Simulation Study on the Stream Server for Deciding the Priority for Using Resources (스트림 서버에서 자원 사용 우선순위 결정을 위한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • Stream servers are for supplying multimedia stream data to users through the internet such as movies and music without discontinuation. A typical stream server is designed roughly by considering the characteristics of stream services and by employing processors, memory, PCI bus, Ethernet, TOE and disks. This study focuses on deciding the priority for using resources such as PCI bus, buffer memory and TOE buffer, which have limited capacities in a typical stream server. When the priorities for using limited resources are not given properly, the stream servers may not even function as originally designed. The simulation study shows that the top priority for using PCI bus for normal streaming services should be given to the operation that sends data from buffer memory to TOE buffer. Giving priority for using PCI bus to other operation such as sending data from disks to memory results in a deadlock phenomenon.

Development of A Flexible-Intelligent Equipment Server using Virtual Simulator

  • This paper presents a real design and implementation of an intelligent client-server equipment controller in computer-integrated manufacturing systems. An automated manufacturing process is commonly controlled by a number of PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers), which are attached to various equipments. A manufacturing cell consists of a set of equipments or workstation, which are also controlled by equipment or cell controller. We propose an intelligent equipment controller which has two function: one is to request (collect) an important information from each equipment and the other is to send the collected equipment information to the upper level controller (shop floor controller). Two-phase approaches are considered for the development of equipment client-server controller. The first events are generated virtually using computer simulation. Using the virtually generated activities, operating software of equipment server is developed. The second phase is to embed the virtually developed software (controller) into a real manufacturing system. The proposed methodology might be a novel design and implementation of a virtual simulator, which could be used for developing an intelligent equipment server.

  • If the cloud computing environment is not sufficiently provide the required resources due to the number of virtual server to process the request, may cause a problem that the load applied to the specific server. Migration administrator receive the resources of each physical server for improving the efficiency of the virtual server that exists in the physical servers, and determines the migration destination based on the simulation results. But, there is more overhead predicting the future resource consumption of all the physical server to decide the migration destination through the simulation process in large and complex cloud computing environments. To solve this problem, we propose an improved prediction method with the simulation-based approach. The proposed method is a fuzzy-logic based priority model for VM migration. We design a proposed model with the DEVS formalism. And we also measure and compare a performance and migration count with existing simulation-based migration method. FPLM shows high utilization.
