  • Heat pump drying has a great potential for energy saving due to its high energy efficiency in comparison with conventional air drying. In the present study, the performance simulation for the basic design of a heat pump dryer has been carried out. The simulation includes one-stage heat pump cycle, simple drying process using the drying efficiency. As an example, the heat pump cycle with Refrigerant 134a has been investigated. For the operating conditions such as the average temperature of the condenser, the heat rate released in the condenser, the flow rate of drying air, and drying efficiency, the simulation has been carried out to figure out the performance of the dryer. The parameters considered in the design of the dryer are COP, MER, SMER, the rate of dehumidification, the temperature and humidity of drying air and those parameters are compared for different conditions after carrying out the simulation.

  • Passive agents participate in team activities passively, that is, only upon requst, whereas active agents involve themselves voluntarily. Teams composed of active agents are generally believed to perform better than those with passive agents. In this paper, by using a computational simulation model we examine the effect of agent activeness on the efficiency of decision-making teams that access different amout of information. "Team-Soar" is a computational fraemwork that consists of a group of interconnected individual Al agents (i.e., Soar). A simulation experiment using Tearm-Soar was performed. Results of the simulation provide valuable insights on the roles of agent activeness. For example, the impact of having more active agents becomes more sigfniciant as the amout of information to process increases and when the team decision efficiency is important. Some of the results are counter-intultive and therefore provides an opportunity to understand the roles of the agnet activeness more deeply. For instance, the simulation results reveal that having more active agents did not always enhance team efficiency. Conclusively, the simulation experiment demonstrates how computational models contribute to the research of agents social characteristics.teristics.

  • Through a simulation experiment, often an experimenter is concerned with estimating the system parameters of the linear model consisting of m design points from the outputs oft the simulation model. To improve the estimation of the system parameters and reliability of these estimators, appropriate simulation techniques have been developed. For the first order linear model, Schruben and Margolin (1978) exploited the random number assignment rules which uses a combination of common random numbers and antithetic streams in a simulation experiment designed to estimate the system parameters when the design matrix of simulation model admits orthogonal blocking into two blocks. Nozari, Arnold and Pegden (1984) developed a method for appliying the method of control variates to the situation of the linear model having multiple design points. This talk deals with a different way of utilizing controls under the correlation induction strategy of Schruben and Margolin's to improve the simulation efficiency, and presents a procedure for obtaining the estimators of the system parameters analytically. Simulation results on a selected simulation model indicate a promising evidence that a proposed method may yield better results than Schruben and Margolin's method.

  • The scavenging efficiency has a great influence on the performance of a diesel engine, especially slow two-stroke diesel engines which are usually used as a marine propulsion power plant. And this is greatly affected by the conditions in the cylinder, scavenging manifold and exhaust manifold during the gas exchange process. There are many factors to affect on the scavenging efficiency and these factors interact each other very complicatedly. Therefore the simulation program of the gas exchange process is very useful to improve and predict the scavenging efficiency, due to the high costs associated with redesign and testing. In this paper, a three-zone scavenging model for two-stroke uniflow engines was developed to link a control-volume-type engine simulation program for performance prediction of long-stroke marine engines. In this model it was attempted to simulate the three different regions perceived to exist inside the cylinder during scavenging, namely the air, mixing and combystion products regions, by modeling each region as a seperate control volume. Finally the scavenging efficiency was compared with three type of scavenging modes, that is, pure displacement, partial mixing and prefect mixing.

  • The improvement of volumetric efficiency of air charging into combustion chamber is a primary requirement to obtain better mean effective pressure of an engine. Since parameters such as the air resistances in intake and exhaust flow passages, valve lift and valve timing influence greatly to the volumetric efficiency, it is very convenient and time saving if we can optimize these parameters by computation before we enter into long time fact finding engine tests. In this study we have developed a semi-empirical engine simulation program for the determinations of intake and exhaust valve timings, valve lifts, intake and exhaust port diameters in order to obtain highest volumetric efficiency. In this computation it requires only the measured variational pressures in intake and exhaust port. Using these variational pressures as an input data for our simulation program, we can calculate volumetric efficiency more accurately and can save computing time drastically. To confirm the validity of our simulation program we have made engine operation test in parallel and taken the experimental data. Comparing the computation result with the experimental data obtained through real engine test it has shown only the difference of 3%.

  • Hybrid electric vehicles have attracted much attention of late, emphasizing the necessity of developing traction motors with a high input current and a wide speed range. Among such traction motors, various researches have been conducted on interior permanent-magnet synchronous motors (IPMSMs) with high power density and mechanical solidity. Due to the complexity of its parameters, however, with nonlinear motor characteristics and current vector control, it is actually difficult to accurately estimate the base speed within an actual operating speed range or a voltage limit. Moreover, it is impossible to construct an efficiency map as the efficiency differs according to the control mode. In this study, a simulation method for operation performance considering the nonlinearity of IPMSM was proposed. For this, datasets of various nonlinear parameters were made via the finite-element method and interpolation. Maximum torque-per-ampere and flux-weakening control were accurately simulated using the datasets, and an IPMSM efficiency map was accurately constructed based on the simulation. Lastly, the validity of the simulation was verified through tests.

  • Electrical properties of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) were simulated by S.co's program. The OLEDs have stable operating parameters, high luminance, and high efficiency in simulation. The AF stands for amorphous fluoropolymer in simulation, and it was used as a hole-injection layer. In the five structure of OLEDs, an AF layer is sandwiched between the hole-transport layer and the ITO layer to increase the external quantum efficiency. By considering organic light-emitting diodes using an optimal energy gap of AF, it could contribute to the improvement of the efficiency of the device in the simulation.

  • In this paper the DRC model is presented for solving multi objective problem. The proposed model is a combination of data envelopment analysis, Cuckoo algorithm and the response surface method. Due to reasons like costs, time and irreversible damages, it is not possible to analyze each and every one of the proposed models in practice, so the simulation is used. Since the number of experiments for simulation process is high then the optimization has gone to practice and directs the simulation process. The response surface method is used as one of the approaches of simulation optimization. Furthermore, data envelopment analysis is used to consider several response surfaces as efficiency response surface. Then this efficiency response surface is solved by Cuckoo algorithms. The main advantage of DRC model is to make one efficiency response surface function instate of multi surface function for every output and also using the advantages of Cuckoo algorithms. In order to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, the branches of Refah bank in Mashhad is analyzed and the results are presented.

  • Recently, requests for accurate process planning using simulation have been increasing in many engineering fields including the shipbuilding industry, and many application systems for simulation have been developed. It is difficult, however, for a user to reuse the developed systems, because simulation models in the system are defined by its own method. In addition, the simulation model should be modified whenever a simulation sequence, which is called simulation scenario, is changed. Therefore, in this study, an elementary simulation object is proposed to modularize a simulation model. And the management scheme of simulation scenario is proposed to manage the scenario outside of the simulation models. Also, a simulation template is proposed to increase the development efficiency. To verify the efficiency of the proposed methods, application examples for shipbuilding process planning are implemented.

  • The aim of this study was to conduct basic research on the development of a dual-clutch transmission(DCT) and automatic transmission for agricultural tractors. The DCT layout and the DCT simulation model were developed using commercial software. Power transmission efficiency of the DCT and component power loss were analyzed to verify the developed simulation model. Power loss analysis of the components was conducted according to previous studies and ISO(International Organization for Standardization) standards. The power transmission efficiency of the DCT simulation model was 68.4-91.5% according to the gear range. The power loss in the gear, bearing, and clutch DCT system components was 0.75-1.49 kW, 0.77-2.99 kW, and 5.24-10.52 kW, respectively. The developed simulation model not include the rear axle, differential gear, final reduction gear. Therefore actual power transmission efficiency of DCT will be decreased. In a future study, an actual DCT can be developed through the simulation model in this study, and optimization design of DCT can be possible by comparing simulation results and actual vehicle test.
