  • Since the interest of a brain science research is increased recently, various devices using brain waves have been developed in the field of brain training game, education application and brain computer interface. In this paper, we have developed a portable EEG measurement and a bluetooth based wireless transmission device measuring brain waves from the frontal lob simply and conveniently. The low brain signals about 10~100${\mu}V$ was amplified into several volts and low pass, high pass and notch filter were designed for eliminating unwanted noise and 60Hz power noise. Also, PIC24F192 microcontroller has been used to convert analog brain signal into digital signal and transmit the signal into personal computer wirelessly. The sampling rate of 1KHz and bluetooth based wireless transmission with 38,400bps were used. The LabVIEW programing was used to receive and monitor the brain signals. The power spectrum of commercial biopac MP100 and that of a developed EEG system was compared for performance verification after the simulation signals of sine waves of $1{\mu}V$, 0~200Hz was inputed and processed by FFT transformation. As a result of comparison, the developed system showed good performance because frequency response of a developed system was similar to that of a commercial biopac MP100 inside the range of 30Hz specially.

  • This research estimates the impact of population aging on energy use and carbon emissions by energy sources and by industrial sectors in Korea until 2035. For the estimation, the structural change in household consumption expenditure identified by the age-specific consumption pattern was analyzed in conjunction with energy and environment input-output tables. The estimation result presents that, despite the population aging, energy use and carbon emissions induced by household consumption continue to increase until 2026, and then that elevated levels of energy use and carbon emissions will be maintained for a considerable period of time. According to the estimation by energy sources, the use of natural gas will show substantial increase while the use of crude oil will switch to a downturn at a relatively early period. According to the estimation by industrial sectors, carbon emissions in the sectors with relatively high consumption share of old households such as medical health, dwelling, lighting, heating, air-conditioning, and food will have substantial increase, whereas those in the sectors associated with education, transport, catering, and accommodation services will turn downward relatively early. In addition, the study analyzes through policy simulation the impact of aging-related policy similar to the basic pension system, which is recently being discussed for legislation, on energy use and carbon emissions.

  • This study was conducted to investigate nursing students' safety-climate: perception and performance of standard precautions for healthcare-associated infection control. We also identified actors influencing performance of standard precautions. Data were collected from 246 junior and senior nursing students at nine colleges in D city from July to September, 2016. The mean score of performance was significantly lower than that of perception in all areas of standard precautions. The biggest difference between perception and performance was in the usage of personal protective equipment and safe injection practices. We also detected significant positive correlations among safety-climate, perception, and performance of standard precautions. In the regression analysis, performance of standard precautions was influenced by safety-climate and grade accounting for 10.7% of variance. To improve healthcare-associated infection control among nursing students, safer and more supportive practical environments need to be provided, and new training strategies such as simulation education need to be expanded.

  • A gas turbine engine plays an important role as a prime mover that is used in the marine transportation field as well as the space/aviation and power plant fields. However, it has a complicated structure and there is a time delay element in the combustion process. Therefore, an elaborate mathematical model needs to be developed to control a gas turbine engine. In this study, a modeling technique for a gas generator, a PLA actuator, and a metering valve, which are major components of a gas turbine engine, is explained. In addition, sub-models are obtained at several operating points in a steady state based on the trial running data of a gas turbine engine, and a method for controlling the engine speed is proposed by designing an NPID controller for each sub-model. The proposed NPID controller uses three kinds of gains that are implemented with a nonlinear function. The parameters of the NPID controller are tuned using real-coded genetic algorithms in terms of minimizing the objective function. The validity of the proposed method is examined by applying to a gas turbine engine and by conducting a simulation.

  • When a large-scale photovoltaic (PV) system is introduced into a distribution system, the customer's voltage may exceed the allowable limit ($220V{\pm}6%$) due to voltage variations and reverse power flow in the PV system. In order to solve this problem, we propose a method for adjusting the customer voltage using the existing step voltage regulator (SVR) installed in the primary feeder. However, due to the characteristics of a mechanically operating SVR, the customer voltage during the tap changing time of the SVR is likely to deviate from the allowable limit. In this paper, an energy storage system (ESS) with optimal operation strategies, and an appropriate capacity calculation algorithm are proposed, and the parallel driving scheme between the SVR and the ESS is also proposed to solve the customer voltage problem that may occur during the tap changing time of the SVR. The simulation results show that the allowable limit of the customer voltage is verified by the proposed methods during the tap changing time of the SVR when the large-scale PV system is connected to the distribution system.

  • This study analyzes the Required Safe Egress Time (RSET), in the event of a fire at a welfare center for the disabled, using the emergency passage according to the floor arrangement of users to evaluate the safety and the difference in RSET for each emergency passage using the Pathfinder simulation program to suggest an efficient evacuation method. As a result of RSET, it was found that there is no problem in evacuation safety for the current state of the facility's personnel allocation by satisfying the standard RSET in case of fire, and evacuation can be completed safely by evacuating through stairs rather than using elevators if possible. It is necessary for employees to be provided sufficient education and training in advance so that they can evacuate effectively with the disabled in case of fire. This study gives significance in saving many precious lives and safely evacuate in case of fire as evacuation routes were secured through the design, construction and operation of facilities for the disabled and the RSET was shortened through regular evacuation practices. It is necessary to discuss the further RSET studies based on the automatic fire shutters open or not when a fire occurs at a specific location following the installation of automatic fire shutter at the entrance of each floor of the facilities.

  • The purpose of this study is prediction of landslide occurrence reflecting the subsurface flow characteristics within the soil layer in the future due to climate change in a large scale watershed. To do this, we considered the infinite slope stability theory to evaluate the landslide occurrence with predicted soil moisture content by SWAT model based on monitored data (rainfall-soil moisture-discharge). The correlation between the SWAT model and the monitoring data was performed using the coefficient of determination (R2) and the model's efficiency index (Nash and Sutcliffe model efficiency; NSE) and, an accuracy analysis of landslide prediction was performed using auROC (area under Receiver Operating Curve) analysis. In results comparing with the calculated discharge-soil moisture content by SWAT model vs. actual observation data, R2 was 0.9 and NSE was 0.91 in discharge and, R2 was 0.7 and NSE was 0.79 in soil moisture, respectively. As a result of performing infinite slope stability analysis in the area where landslides occurred in the past based on simulated data (SWAT analysis result of 0.7~0.8), AuROC showed 0.98, indicating that the suggested prediction method was resonable. Based on this, as a result of predicting the characteristics of landslide occurrence by 2050 using climate change scenario (RCP 8.5) data, it was calculated that four landslides could occur with a soil moisture content of more than 75% and rainfall over 250 mm/day during simulation. Although this study needs to be evaluated in various regions because of a case study, it was possible to determine the possibility of prediction through modeling of subsurface flow mechanism, one of the most important attributes in landslide occurrence.

  • The objective of this study was to improve the cross-sectional area and height estimation method using stream width. Stream water levels should be calculated together to simulate inundation of agricultural land. However, cross-sectional survey data of small rural rivers are insufficient. The previous study has developed regression equations between the width and the cross-sectional area and between the width and the height of stream cross-section, but can not be applied to a wide range of stream widths. In this study, cross-sectional survey data of 6 streams (Doowol, Chungmi, Jiseok, Gam, Wonpyeong, and Bokha stream) were collected and divided into upstream, midstream and downstream considering the locations of cross-sections. The regression equations were estimated using the complete data. $R^2$ between the stream width and cross-sectional area was 0.96, and $R^2$ between width and height was 0.81. The regression equations were also estimated using divided data for upstream, midstream and downstream considering the locations of cross-sections. The range of $R^2$ between the stream width and cross-sectional area was 0.86 - 0.91, and the range of $R^2$ between width and height was 0.79 ? 0.92. As a result of estimating the cross-sections of 6 rivers using the regression equations, the regression equations considering the locations of cross-sections showed better performance both in the cross-sectional area and height estimation than the regression equations estimated using the complete data. Hydrologic Engineering Center - River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) was used to simulate the flood stage analysis of the estimated and the measured cross-sections for 50-year, 100-year, and 200-year frequency floods. As a result of flood stage analysis, the regression equations considering the locations of cross-sections also showed better performance than the regression equations estimated using the complete data. Future research would be needed to consider the factors affecting the cross-sectional shape such as river slope and average flow velocity. This study can be useful for inundation simulation of agricultural land adjacent to an unmeasured stream.

  • The voltages mainly used in ships are 450 [V], 6.6 [kV], and 11 [kV], and an earthed system is applied to ensure the stability of the power distribution system. In general, low-voltage ships using 450 [V] apply an unearthed system, while high-voltage ships using 6.6 [kV] or 11 [kV] use a high-resistance earthed system. When an earth fault occurs in a ship's power distribution system, the voltage of the healthy phase increases to the line-to-line voltage or higher, which causes an excessive impact on the insulation of the cable. Thus, analyzing this behavior is very important. In this paper, we investigate the characteristics of the line-to-earth voltage variation according to earth faults and a recognition procedure of a faulty phase using the symmetrical coordinate method for a high-resistance earthed system and unearthed system. A mathematical model of the line-to-earth voltage was derived through the symmetric coordinate method, and the ship voltage for simulations was selected as 6.6 [kV] and 450 [V]. A MATLAB simulation proved that this method can determine the highest increase of the line-to-earth voltage, which leads by 120° on the faulty phase, and it accurately judges the faulty phase in both earthed systems.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the factors influencing in the infection control performance of coronavirus infection disease-19 in registered nurse. Data were collected using descriptive structured questionnaires to examine the factors of influencing in the infection control performance. General characteristics, knowledge of infection control, anxiety, fatigue, and coronavirus infection-19 (COVID-19) respiratory infection management performance were identified from structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using independent t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were performed using the IBM SPSS 21.0 program. Anxiety and respiratory infection management performance was a negative correlation. Multiple regression analysis indicated anxiety was predicted component of performance of coronavirus infection-19 respiratory infection management. The results indicate a need to decrease degree of anxiety by developing educational programs to improve nurses' ability to manage coronavirus infection-19 respiratory infections. In addition, it is necessary to consider applying a role-play or simulation education method so that registered nurse can take care of patients with emerging infectious diseases in advance.
