  • This paper proposes the possibility which the fuzzy theory can be used to improve the performance of the parabolic SAR(Stop-And-Reverse) indicator in the trading systems for stock market. The simulation results with data of the KOSPI 200 future show that the occurred number of trading signals and the false signals in the proposed fuzzy SAR indicator is less than that in the conventional SAR indicator. In the conventional SAR system, the incremental value of the acceleration factor is usually setted as 0.02 and the maximum value of the acceleration factor is usually limited as 0.2. But in the proposed fuzzy SAR system, the incremental value and the maximum value of the acceleration factor are automatically adjusted by using the fuzzy rules, which are designed based-on the difference between short-term moving average and medium-term moving average and also based-on the slope of short-term moving average.

  • The variations of the natural frequencies and the peak response acceleration at the top of prestressed concrete reactor building due to random variability and/or model uncertainty of structural parameters are studied. The results may be used as essential input parameters in seismic probabilistic risk assessment or seismic margin assessment of the reactor building. The sensitivity test of each structural parameter is first performed to determine the most influential parameter upon the natural frequency of structure model. Then Monte Carlo simulation technique is applied to evaluate the effect of parameter variation on the natural frequencies and the peak response acceleration. The acceleration time history is obtained by direct integration scheme. As the study results, it is found that the fundamental natural frequency and the peak response acceleration at the top of the building are most strongly affected by Young's modulus among the structural parameters, in which the value of mean plus one standard deviation obtained by probabilistic approach deviates up to about (+)12% from the result of deterministic method. Considering the uncertainty of flexural rigidity, the structural responses vary in range of (-)4%~(+)14%.

  • A nonlinear time-domain system identification algorithm using measured acceleration data is developed for structural damage assessment. To take account of nonlinear behavior of structural systems, an output error between measured and computed acceleration increments has been defined and a constrained nonlinear optimization problem is solved for optimal structural parameters. The algorithm estimates time-varying properties of stiffness and damping parameters. Nonlinear response of restoring force of a structural system is recovered by using the estimated time-varying structural properties and computed displacement by Newmark-$\beta$ method. In the recovery, no pre-defined model for inelastic behavior has been assumed. In developing the algorithm, noise and incomplete measurement in space and state have been considered. To examine the developed algorithm, numerical simulation and laboratory experimental studies on a three-story shear building have been carried out.

  • With the rapid advances in automated driving technology, opportunities to experience automated driving directly or indirectly are being provided to the public. On the other hand, research on the preferred automated driving patterns from the user's perspective has not been conducted in Korea. This study used a driving simulator and an experimental vehicle capable of automated driving to evaluate the user satisfaction regarding longitudinal and lateral accelerations. Automated driving patterns were implemented in a virtual environment simulation using five values of longitudinal and lateral accelerations derived from driving experiments. Among these values, three were implemented through experimental vehicle-based automated driving to evaluate satisfaction and anxiety. The participants evaluated lateral acceleration more sensitively than longitudinal acceleration and showed higher levels of anxiety. Based on these results, the necessity of user-oriented evaluation research for automated driving patterns and the suitability of simulator-based evaluation methods were presented.

  • This paper develops a 3 DOF vehicle model which includes lateral, roll and yaw motion to study a 4WS vehicle. The model is used for the simulation of a 4WS vehicle behavior, and to derive a control algorithm for rear wheel steering. This paper uses a feedforward plus feedback control scheme to compute a rear wheel steering angle. The feedforward control scheme for computing the first rear wheel steering angle uses a gain which is acquired by multiplying a proper value on a gain to maintain a zero sideslip angle. The feedback control scheme for computing the second rear wheel steering angle uses fuzzy logic and model following control scheme. A linear 2 DOF model is used as a reference model for model following control, and is derived from the developed 3 DOF model by neglecting sprung mass roll motion. A reference state variable is yaw rate, and is computed using the linear 2 DOF model. J-turn and lane change maneuver simulation are performed to show the effectiveness of the developed control scheme. The simulation results show that the 4WS vehicle with the developed control scheme has much better performance in yaw rate, lateral acceleration, roll angle, and sideslip angle than the 2WS vehicle. Also, the results show that the performance of the developed control is close to the one of an optimal control which assumes all states are perfect.

  • In particle-based fluid simulation, applying sudden power to particle raise unnatural flow when wave is breaking. To solve this problem, we have used an linear interpolation technique that interpolate between fluid particle by subdividing the time interval in the previous work. Acceleration vector of the particle with increased pressure in boundary could change smoothly. However, particle looks like flow with viscosity because the number of the minimum samples to interpolate increases. We propose an weighted-interpolation technique to represent the realistic movement of fluid. it is accumulating that has added and assigned different weights to the previous acceleration vector and current one repeatedly. weighted-interpolation technique using less minium samples to flow than linear interpolation, so it can solve the problem which particle looks like flow with viscosity.

  • The paper presented here covers the work associated with the flight control law design, ground based and in flight simulation and handling qualities assessment of the Fly-by-Wire type Aircraft (FBWA). The FBWA configurations are of the same generic form of the Korean advanced trainer. The normal acceleration (Nz) and pitch rate (q) feedback control system is employed for longitudinal axis and roll rate (p) and lateral acceleration (Ny) feedback flight control law is developed in lateral/ directional axis. The flight tests for the FBW A dynamics evaluation were executed for the target aircraft (FBWA) on the IFS (In-Flight-Simulator) aircraft . The test results showed that Level 1 handling qualities for the most unstable flight regime and Level 1/2 for the landing approach flight regime were achieved. And the designed FBWA flight control law has revealed acceptable CHR (Cooper-Harper handling qualities Ratings).

  • Recently, cultural heritages in South Korea gain many interests of restoration and preservation from the government since many of that have been severely damaged during earthquakes. Many previous studies in both terms of experimental and analytical approaches have been done to examine structural behavior and decide appropriate methods of preservation. Being motivated by such researches, this research aims to investigate a religious stone pagoda dated back to the Goryeo Dynasty in Korea. The structure consists of a granite stone foundation and baked bricks, which resembles the shape of traditional pagodas. In order to examine the structural behavior of the pagoda, an analytical model is implemented using ANSYS, a comprehensive engineering simulation platform. For the time history analysis of the pagoda, several earthquake excitations are chosen and input to simulation modeling. Seismic response of the tower such as time domain, natural frequency, modal shapes and peak acceleration measured at each layer are presented and discussed. In addition, the amplification ratio of the tower is calculated from the accelerations of each layer to determine tower stability in accordance with Korean seismic design guide. The determination and evaluation of status and response of the brick tower by simulation analysis play an important role in the preservation of history as well as valuable architectural heritages in South Korea.

  • In order to study the anti-seismic performance of full light-weight concrete utility tunnel, EL Centro seismic waves were input, and the seismic simulation shaking table test was carried out on the four utility tunnel models. The dynamic characteristics and acceleration response of the system consisting of the utility tunnel structure and the soil, and the interlayer displacement response of the structure were analyzed. The influence law of different construction methods, haunch heights and concrete types on the dynamic response of the utility tunnel structure was studied. And the experimental results were compared with the finite element calculation results. The results indicated that with the increase of seismic wave intensity, the natural frequency of the utility tunnel structure system decreased and the damping ratio increased. The assembling composite construction method could be equivalent to replace the integral cast-in-place construction method. The haunch height of the assembling composite full light-weight concrete utility tunnel was increased from 30 mm to 50 mm to enhance the anti-seismic performance during large earthquakes. The anti-seismic performance of the full light-weight concrete utility tunnel was better than that of the ordinary concrete utility tunnel. The peak acceleration of the structure was reduced by 21.8% and the interlayer displacement was reduced by 45.8% by using full light-weight concrete. The finite element simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental results, which could provide reference for practical engineering design and application.
