When eccentric or inclined load acts on foundation of the port & harbor structures, partial safety factors of bearing capacity limit state were estimated using reliability analysis. Current Korean technical standards of port and harbor structures recommend to estimate the geotechnical bearing capacity using the simplified Bishop method. In practice, however, simple method of comparing ground reaction resistance with allowable bearing capacity has been mostly used by design engineers. While the simple method gives just one number fixed but somewhat convenient, it could not consider the uncertainty of soil properties depending on site by site. Thus, in this paper, partial safety factors for each design variable were determined so that designers do perform reliability-based level 1 design for bearing capacity limit state. For these, reliability index and their sensitivities were gained throughout the first order reliability method(FORM), and the variability of the random variables was also considered. In order to verify partial safety factors determined here, a comparison with foreign design codes was carried out and were found to be reasonable in practical design.
Korea Nuclear Fuel is developing the X-GEN fuel which shows high performance and robust reliability for the worldwide supply. However, the simplified code systems such as CESEC-III which were developed in 1970s are still used in the current Non-LOCA safety analysis of OPR1000 and APR1400 plants. Therefore, it is essential to secure an advanced safety analysis methodology to make the best use of the merits of X-GEN fuel. To accomplish this purpose, the $\b{i}$ntegrated $\b{s}$afety $\b{a}$nalysis $\b{m}$ethodology (iSAM), is developed by selecting the best-estimate thermal-hydraulic code RETRAN. iSAM possesses remarkable advantages, such as generality, integrity, and designer-friendly features. That is, iSAM can be applied to both OPR1000 and APR1400 plants and uses only one computer code, RETRAN, in the whole scope of the non-LOCA safety analyses. Also the iSAM adopts the unique and automatic initialization and run tool, $\b{a}$utomatic $\b{s}$teady-$\b{s}$tate $\b{i}$nitialization and $\b{s}$afety analysis too l (ASSIST), to enable unhandy designers to use the new design code RETRAN without difficulty. In this paper, a brief overview of the iSAM is given, and the results of applying the iSAM to typical non-LOCA transients being checked during the reload design are reported. The typical non-LOCA transients selected are the single control element assembly withdrawal (SCEAW) accident, the asymmetric steam generator transients (ASGT), the locked rotor (LR) accident, and bank CEA withdrawal (BCEAW) event. Comparison to current licensing results shows a close resemblance; thus, it reveals that the iSAM can be applied to the non-LOCA safety analysis of OPR1000 and APR1400 plants.

Service life of water pipes buried in the underground is considerably affected from various factors such as environmental characteristics, pipe characteristics, operation and maintenance, etc. Therefore it is difficult to determine their service life as uniformly the same value assigned by related laws and ordinances. As a result, the service life should be determined by the technical judgement based on the assessment for the condition of water pipes. In this study, It was established that the methodology could predict present and future failure risk, and plan short and long-term strategies for replacement/rehabilitation through the assessment for the physical deterioration and economical values of buried water pipe. The methodology was applied for the verification and reliability to several sites selected in multi-regional transmission pipelines. The proposed method could helps to support reasonable and economical decision of rehabilitation/replacement in the present and future. To improve conventional assessment method of aged water pipes, affecting factors are simplified based on the statistical analysis results from the measured data in the field and the physical deterioration mechanism for better reliability. Also, the guide-line is developed to carry out the reasonal rehabilitation planning through water pipe condition assessment.
The objective of this study was to derive a cementitious material for three-dimensional (3D) concrete printing that fulfills key performance functions, extrudability, buildability and bondability for 3D concrete printing. For this purpose, the rheological properties shown by different compositions of cement paste, the most fundamental component of concrete, were assessed, and the correlation between the rheological properties and key performance functions was analyzed. The results of the experiments indicated that the overall properties of a binder have a greater influence on the yield stress than the plastic viscosity. When the performance of a cementitious material for 3D printing was considered in relation with the properties of a binder, a mixture with FA or SF was thought to be more appropriate; however, a mixture containing GGBS was found to be inappropriate as it failed to meet the required function especially, buildability and extrudability. For a simple quantitative evaluation, the correlation between the rheological parameters of cementitious materials and simplified flow performance test results-time taken to reach T-150 and the number of hits required to reach T-150-in consideration of the flow of cementitious materials was compared. The result of the analysis showed a high reliability for the correlation between the rheological parameters and the time taken to reach T-150, but a low reliability for the number of hits needed for the fluid to reach T-150. In conclusion, among several performance functions, extrudability and buildability were mainly assessed based on the results obtained from various formulations from a rheological perspective, and the suitable formulations of composite materials for 3D printing was derived.

EMTP-RV is the very powerful program to analyze the dynamic operation of the power system. To use this package in the large complex power system, it is very important to simplify the power system to simple equivalent network. In our study the 100 MVA STATCOM is placed at 345kV "MIGUM" which is the one of the 345kV substations of the Korean Electric Power System that is consist of more than 1000-bus. MIGUM substation is connected with 7 separated transmission lines to main Korean Electric power system. We developed a new method to simplify the network except the substation that we want to analysis. The power system outside the 345kV substation is modeled into the equivalent network. The loop network outside the substation can be modeled to simplified Thevenin equivalent network. The proposed method is applied to IEEE-14 Reliability Test System and the results shows the effectiveness of the method.
Wind and wave loadings have a predominant role in the design of offshore structures in general, and articulated tower in particular for a successful service and survival during normal and extreme environmental conditions. Such towers are very sensitive to the dynamic effects of wind and wind generated waves. The exposed superstructure is subjected to aerodynamic loads while the submerged substructure is subjected to hydrodynamic loads. Articulated towers are designed such that their fundamental frequency is well below the wave frequency to avoid dynamic amplification. Dynamic interaction of these towers with environmental loads (wind, waves and currents) acts to impart a lesser overall shear and overturning moment due to compliance to such forces. This compliancy introduces geometric nonlinearity due to large displacements, which becomes an important consideration in the analysis of articulated towers. Prediction of the nonlinear behaviour of these towers in the harsh ocean environment is difficult. However, simplified realistic mathematical models are employed to gain an important insight into the problem and to explore the dynamic behaviour. In this paper, various modeling approaches and solution methods for articulated towers adopted by past researchers are reviewed. Besides, reliability of articulation system, the paper also discussed the design, installation and performance of articulated towers around the world oceans.

A gas driven heat pump (GHP) core design comprises internal combustion engine, compressors incorporated to a cooling/heating system, rubber mountings and belt transmissions. Main excitation farces are generated by an engine, compressors themselves and belt fluctuation. It leads to high vibration level of the mount that can cause damage of GHP elements. Therefore an appropriate design of the mounting system is crucial in terms of reliability and vibration reduction. In this paper oscillation of the engine mount is explored both experimentally and analytically. Experimental analysis of natural frequencies and operational frequency response of the GHP engine mounting system enables to create simplified model for numerical and analytical investigations. It is worked out criteria f3r vibration abatement of the isolated structure. Influence of bracket stiffness between engine and compressors, suspension locations and damper performance is investigated. Ways to reduce excitation forces and improve dynamic performance of the engine-compressor mounting system are considered from these analyses. Implementation of the proposed approach permits to choose appropriate rubber mountings and their location as well as joining elements design A phase matching technique can be employed to control forces from main exciters. It enables to changing vibration response of the structure by control of natural modes contribution. Proposed changes lead to significant vibration reduction and can be easily utilized in engineering practice.

Reinforced concrete corbels are structural elements widely used in practical engineering. The complex response of these elements is described in design codes in a simplified manner. These formulations are not sufficient to show the real behavior, which, however, is an essential prerequisite for the manufacturing of numerous elements. Therefore, a deterministic and probabilistic study has been performed, which is described in this contribution. Real complex structures have been modeled by means of the finite element method supported primarily by experimental works. The main objective of this study was the detection of uncertainties effects and safety margins not captured by traditional codes. This aim could be fulfilled by statistical considerations applied to the investigated structures. The probabilistic study is based on advanced Monte Carlo simulation techniques and sophisticated nonlinear finite element formulations.

High-quality cups of deep drawing ratio of more than four cannot be simply drawn by conventional drawing and redrawing processes. In the present study, after the first deep drawing process, subsequent hydromechanical reverse redrawing with controlled radial pressure is employed. In order to increase the deep drawing ratio up to muchmore than four, the radial pressure should be controlled independently of the chamber pressure and thus an optimum forming condition can be found easily by varying the radial pressure. The process has been subjected to finite element analysis by using the rigid-platic material modeling considering all the frictional conditions induced by the hydrostatic pressure. In order to consider the pressure effect on the sheet, the pressure distributions on the flange part and the side wall part are calculated mumerically from simplified Navier-stokes equation. The comparison of the computation with the experiment has shown that the finite element modeling can be conveniently emplyed for the design of the process with reliability from the viewpoint of formability.
The effects of open boundary conditions including the radiation condition are compared by utilizing the $L^{2_}$-norm and RMS error in the numerical modeling of ocean problem. In numerical tests of $M_2$ tide, grid size and bed roughness are considered and analyzed. For the $M_2$ tide test in a simplified bay where the analytical solutions are available, it is found that improved radiating boundary condition(IMPSOM) may increase the reliability of computed results by 40% of $L^{2_}$-norm and 96% of RMS error than the open boundary condition without radiation effect. In case of using the half-size grids, better results are obtained. It is also found that the IMPSOM is applicable with satisfaction when the bottom friction is included.
