Rotifers collected from mosses, leaf litter, soil, and wetland at six different locations in Korea were investigated. Ten species belonging to six genera in four families of monogonont and bdelloid rotifers were new to Korea: Habrotrocha scepanotrochoides De Koning, 1947, H. tripus (Murray, 1907), Lecane opias (Harring and Myers, 1926), L. perpusilla (Hauer, 1929), Macrotrachela decora (Bryce, 1912), Otostephanos auriculatus auriculatus(Murray, 1911), O. torquatus amoenus Milne, 1916, Scepanotrocha corniculata Bryce, 1910, S. simplex De Koning, 1947, and Testudinella brevicaudata Yamamoto, 1951. Among these 10 Korean new records, Habrotrocha scepanotrochoides, H. tripus, Macrotrachela decora, Otostephanos auriculatus auriculatus, O. torquatus amoenus, Scepanotrocha corniculata, and S. simplex were new to Asia as well. The present study is the first report of the genus Scepanotrocha Bryce, 1910 from Korea. Here, diagnostic characteristics and photomicrographs are provided for each Korean new record. In addition, a partial sequence of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 gene (mtCOX1) for S. simplex is presented.

Cholera toxin and dibutyryl cyclic adenosine 3', 5'-monophosphate(db-cAMP) increased the rate and number of infections units produced in the in vitro reactivation of latent herpes simplex virus, whereas adenosine diminished them. cAMP concentration in latently infected trigeminal ganglia of mice was greatly increased by cholera toxin but was not affected by adenosine.

Investigators use either Euclidean distance or volume of a simplex defined composed of data points as agreement index to measure chance-corrected agreement among observers for multivariate interval data. The agreement coefficient proposed by Um(2004) is based on a volume of a simplex and does not depend on the variables' measuring units. We consider a comparison of Um(2004)'s agreement coefficient with others based on two unit-free distance measures, Pearson distance and Mahalanobis distance. Comparison among them is made using hypothetical data set.

In this research, we compare and analyze the two initial basis construction procedures: LPAKO’s procedure proposed by Seo et. al. and symbolic crash procedure proposed by Maros et. al.. Based on the analysis, we present a new procedure which complements the previous procedures. The new procedure shows superiority to the previous procedures with respects to the optimality of initial basis. Also, the linear basis Also. the initial basis constructed by the new procedure reduces the number of simplex iterations.

A simple force-finding process based on an optimization technique is proposed for tensegrity structures. For this purpose, the inverse problem of form-finding process is formulated. Therefore, the position vector of nodes and element connectivity information are provided as priori. Several benchmark tests are carried out to demonstrate the performance of the present force-finding process. In particular, the force density distributions of simplex tensegrity are thoroughly investigated with the important parameters such as the radius, height and twisting angle of simplex tensegrity. Finally, the force density distribution of arch tensegrity is produced by using the present force-finding process for a future reference solution.

We discuss the class of projective systems whose supports are the complement of the union of two linear subspaces in general position. We express the weight enumerators of the codes generated by these projective systems using two simplex codes corresponding to given linear subspaces. We also prove these codes are uniquely determined upto equivalence by their weight enumerators.

Purpose： The most common instrumental approach to automatic shimming has been based on iterativ. optimization routine(e.g., simplex) to adjust shim settings to maximize the envelope of the FID. Several acyclonucleoside analogues of pyrimidine base and N$^1$-derivatives of 5-fluorouracil have been synthesized and evaluated for their biological effects. When tested with in vitro Lekemia L1210 cells, the 5-fluorouracil derivatives exhibited slightly higher antitumor activity than the parent 5-fluorouracil. When tested against Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 and type 2 cultured in the Vero cell, the 5-fluorouracil derivatives showed weak antiviral activity.

The genus Oithona was investigated taxonomically in samples collected from 10 regions of the Korean waters. In result, 18 species of the genus Oithona were identified, and a key table on 18 species was given. Of these following nine species were new records for Korean waters: Oithona atlantica, 0 . attenuata, 0 . davisae, 0. hamata, 0. longispina, 0 . oculata, 0 . simplex, 0. tenuis, 0. vivida.

The simplex method requires basis update in each iteration, which is the most time consuming process. Several methods have been developed for the update of basis which is represented in LU factorized form, such as Bartels-Golub's method, Forrest-Tomlin's method, Reid's method, Saunders's method, etc. In this research, we compare between the updating methods in terms of sparsity, data structure and computing time issues. The analysis is mainly based on the computational experience.
