In general, seismic isolators which are made of laminated rubber and shim plate have characteristics of complex hysteretic behavior. When shear deformation of the seismic isolator is small, the isolator hassimple hysteretic almost bi-linear behabior. But on large shear deformation hardening effects may occur. This paper proposes a moldeling method of the seimic isolator with modified hysteretic bi-linear model which can consider the hardening effects. From the results of the seismic analyses of the isolated system it is shown that the responses are singificantly reduced compared with those of the non-isolated system. The modified hysteretic bi-linear model of the isolator gives larger ZPA(zero period acceleration) than those of the simple hysteretic bi-linear model and the equivalunt spring-damper model.
Micro-vibration induced by on-board equipments such as fly-wheel and cryogenic cooler with mechanical moving parts affects the image quality of high-resolution observation satellite. Micro-vibration isolation system has been widely used for enhancing the pointing performance of observation satellites. In general, the micro-vibration isolation system requires a launch locking mechanism additionally to guarantee the structural safety of mission payloads supported by the isolation system with low stiffness under launch environment. In this study, we propose a passive launch and on-orbit vibration isolation system using shape memory alloy mesh washers for the micro-vibration isolation of spaceborne compressor, which does not require the additional launch locking mechanism. The basic characteristics of the isolator were measured in static and free vibration tests of the isolator, and a simple equivalent model of the isolator was proposed. The effectiveness of the isolator design in a launch environment was demonstrated through sine vibration, random vibration and shock tests.
Vibration isolation of mechanical systems, in general is achieved through either passive or active vibration control system. Although passive vibration isolators offer simple and reliable means to protect mechanical system from vibration environment, passive vibration isolator has inherent performance limitation. Whereas, active vibration isolator provide significantly superior vibration-isolation performance. Recently, many studied and applications are carried out in this field. In this study, vibration-isolation characteristics of active vibration control system using electromagnetic force actuator are investigated. Some control algorithms. Optimal Feedforward are used for active vibration isolation. Form the experimental results of each control algorithms, active vibration isolation characteristics are investigated.

For a performance analysis of vibration isolation systems, the concept of vibration power flow can be employed preferably when noise radiated from the supporting structure with finite impedances is of interest. The idea is basically simple to understand and formulas for precise estimation of the vibration power are easy to derive. However, It is often required to simplify the process of experimentation under several assumptions due to instrumental limitations. For an example, rotational degree of freedom has not been well treated in bending vibrations of beam or plate-like structures. Yet, several recent studies showed that the moments and rotations play an important role in power transmission and should be taken into consideration carefully as the frequency range of interest goes to audibly high. Therefore, it is readily agreed that reduction of the noise radiation over the high frequency range can be effectively accomplished by adjusting the rotational stiffness of the isolator without changing the vibration isolator efficiency in low frequency range relevant to the translational stiffness of the isolator In this paper, the vibration power flow approach is applied to an AC motor installed on a finite plate in order to illustrate the contribution of the rotational vibration power to the total vibration power transmission. The effects of rotational stiffness of the isolator on the vibration power transmission are investigated by inserting various shapes of Isolators with different rotational stiffness but with $ame translational stiffness between the motor and the plate. The resultant noise radiation from the plate is presented to verify the proposed approach.
Reduction of structure-borne noise in the compartment of a car is an important task in automotive engineering. Many methods which analyze noise transfer path have been generally used for structure-borne noise. These methods are useful in solving particular problem but do not quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation for each isolator of a vehicle. To quantify the effectiveness of vibration isolation, the vibrational power flow measurement has been used for a simple isolation system or a laboratory based isolation system. This paper identifies the transfer path of booming noise in a SUV. The powertrain used for test has a in-line 4cylinder engine and 5-shift auto-transmission. This powertrain is transversely supported by four isolators. We calculated the energy flow throughout four isolator by the measurement of power flow and the contribution of energy flow at each isolator.
To alleviate the vibration problem or to satisfy the required criteria for manifesting the guaranteed performance of precise equipment, various vibration isolation materials or apparatus, such as viscoelastic material, air and coil spring, have been developed and applied. Among them, a wire mesh material is regarded as one of the good candidate for reducing the vibration in terms of moderate material price, easy shape machining and long life cycle without the property deterioration induced by the aging or environmental effects. In this paper, prior to wire mesh isolator design, the static and dynamic elastic modulus of wire mesh materials are extracted from the experiment by the simple shaped cylindrical specimens and their characteristics for applying to vibration isolator design are examined. The simple shaped specimens were made as considering the design parameters of a wire mesh mount; i.e. the density, wire diameter and wire mesh slope, and the sensitivity analysis were also performed from a view point of the extracted elastic modulus.
A non-linear vibration isolation system composed of a non-linear spring and a linear damper was presented in a previous study. The advantage of the proposed isolator is the simple structure of the system. When the base of the isolator is harmonically excited, the response component of the mass at the excitation frequency was approximated using three different methods: linear approximation, harmonic balance, and higher-order frequency response functions (FRFs). The method using higher-order FRFs produces significantly more accurate results compared with the other methods. The error between the exact and approximate responses does not increase monotonously with the excitation amplitude and is less than 2%.
One problem with base isolators of the sliding type is that their dynamic responses are nonlinear, which cannot be solved in an easy manner, as distinction must be made between the sliding and non-sliding phases. The lack of a simple method for analyzing structures installed with base isolators is one of the obstacles encountered in application of these devices. As an initial effort toward simplification of the analysis procedure for base-isolated structures, an approach will be proposed in this paper for computing the equivalent damping for the resilient-friction base isolators (R-FBI), based on the condition that the sum of the least squares of errors of the linearized response with reference to the original nonlinear one is a minimum. With the aid of equivalent damping, the original nonlinear system can be replaced by a linear one, which can then be solved by methods readily available. In this paper, equivalent damping curves are established for all ranges of the parameters that characterize the R-FBI for some design spectra.
Base isolation technologies have been proven to be very efficient in protecting structures from seismic hazards during experimental and theoretical studies. In recent years, there have been more and more engineering applications using base isolators to upgrade the seismic resistibility of structures. Optimum design of the base isolator can lessen the undesirable seismic hazard with the most efficiency. Hence, tracing the nonlinear behavior of the base isolator with good accuracy is important in the engineering profession. In order to predict the nonlinear behavior of base isolated structures precisely, hundreds even thousands of degrees-of-freedom and iterative algorithm are required for nonlinear time history analysis. In view of this, a simple and feasible exact formulation without any iteration has been proposed in this study to calculate the seismic responses of structures with base isolators. Comparison between the experimental results from shaking table tests conducted at National Center for Research on Earthquake Engineering in Taiwan and the analytical results show that the proposed method can accurately simulate the seismic behavior of base isolated structures with elastomeric bearings. Furthermore, it is also shown that the proposed method can predict the nonlinear behavior of the VCFPS isolated structure with accuracy as compared to that from the nonlinear finite element program. Therefore, the proposed concept can be used as a simple and practical tool for engineering professions for designing the elastomeric bearing as well as sliding bearing.
