  • Recently, coastal structures have been built to protect coastal areas. However, if a tidal wave caused by an earthquake hits the coast, it would cause catastrophic damages. It is important to analyze the basics and the characteristics of a tsunami to reduce damages caused by natural disasters. In this study, a tsunami passing over different topographical changes is simulated with VOF method based on FVM(Finite Volume Method). The reduction of both scale and velocity is accomplished by similarity analysis, and an initial energy is generated by increasing the water level as needed to create a tsunami as if it is caused by a crustal movement. It is found that the present method is appropriate to simulate the tsunami with its mechanism.

  • A real tine simulator of running power train for a construction vehicle was developed. The simulator mainly consists of following two parts; (1) running power train part and (2) running load generation part. An optimal servo control algorithm was adopted for designing the multi-variable digital control system of the simulator. By experiments investigating response characteristics under step-wise variation or pre-determined scenario of target vehicle velocity and target load torque, it was verified that the simulator could reproduce physical situations at and actual vehicle with excellent similarity.

  • n this paper, direct numerical simulation of decaying compressible turbulence with passive scalar is performed by using 7th order upwind difference scheme or 8th order group velocity control scheme. The start Reynolds number (defined by Taylor scale) is 72 and turbulent Mach numbers are 0.2-0.9. The Schmidt numbers of passive scalar are 2-10. The Batchelor k-1 range are found in scalar spectra, and the high wavenumber spectra decays faster with increasing turbulent Mach number. The extend self-similarity (ESS) is found in the passive scalar in compressible turbulence.

  • Recently, the industrial development caused the expansion of city and the field of construction is being larged in size. So, information of construction buried in underground is necessary. In this paper, we were investigated the detachability on various specimen in self-designed test field using the GPR system with three antenna elements and it was constantly radiated 730 MHz frequency. To examine the detachability on various condition, the test were displayed B-scan CRT. And the pattern was exactly positioned when it was compared to the real buried-depth. Therefore, we can confirm similarity between the wave-propagation velocity and previous results.

  • The turbopump inducer cavitation is very important for the success of a liquid rocket engine. In this study, the performance test and cavitation performance test were carried out at various rotational speeds with two inducers of different diameter. The rotational speed was varied by 4000, 6000, and 8000 rpm, and the size effect was tested for the normal inducer and twice-enlarged one. The hydraulic performance results showed that the similarity was satisfied over the entire test range of the present study. The blade thickness effect was examined and showed that the increased blade thickness resulted in decreased efficiency and worse cavitation performance for the large tip clearance. The cavitation performance test results showed that the breakdown NPSH increased as the flow coefficient, and was not affected by the rotational speed.

In this study the performance test and cavitation performance test were carried out at various rotational speed with two different diameter inducers. The rotational speed were varied 4000, 6000, 8000 rpm and the variation to the diameter of an inducer were taken as design size and 2 times enlarged size. The major results of the present study were as follows. 1. The hydraulic performance results showed that the similarity was met over the entire test range of the present study. 2. The blade thickness effect was examined and showed that the increased blade thickness resulted in decreased efficiency and worse cavitation performance for large tip clearance. 3. The cavitation performance test results showed that the breakdown NPSH increases as the flow coefficient and does not affected by the rotational speed.

  • The behavior of plane buoyant jet issuing vertically upwards into cross flow is analysed by experiments and integral scheme. The integral scheme is based on the self similarity and characteristic length scales to governing equations of continuity, momentum and constituent transport equation, in the horizontal and vertical flow region, respectively. Jet trajectories and the temperature distributions of jet centerlines obtained from experiments are analysed for various velocity ratios and densimetric Froude numbers. It was found that the analytical results about the trajectories and temperatures of jet center lines agree with the experiments and can be expressed as power laws.

  • An experimental study on the flow characteristics was performed for a two-dimensional turbulent wall attaching offset jet at different oblique angles to a surface. The flow characteristics were investigated by using a split film probe with the modified Stock's calibration method. The jet mean velocity, turbulent intensity, wall static pressure coefficient profiles, and time-averaged reattachment point were measured at the Reynolds number Re (based on the nozzle width, D) ranging from 17700 to 53200, the offset ratio H/D from 2.5 to 10, and the inclined angle .alpha. from 0.deg. C to 40.deg. C. The Correlations between the maximum pressure position, minimum pressure position, and reattachment point and offset ratios, and inclined angles are presented.

  • 1.6 MW class supersonic partial admission impulse turbine has been designed and tested in Korea Aerospace Research Institute for the liquid rocket engine application. The test has been performed using a high pressure air source facility in KARI. For the turbine power absorption, a hydraulic dynamometer has been used. Appropriate similarity relations are used for the determination of test condition. Various settings of turbine pressure ratio and rotational speed are tested to investigate global turbine characteristics. From measured data, parameters related to the turbine design are derived and validated.
