We present a statistical model for the path loss of ultrawideband (UWB) channels in indoor environments. In contrast to our previously reported measurements, the data reported here are for a bandwidth of 6GHz rather than 1.25GHz; they encompass commercial buildings in addition to single-family homes (20 of each); and local spatial averaging is included. As before, the center frequency is 5.0GHz. Separate models are given for commercial and residential environments and, within each category, for lineof sight (LOS) and non-line-of-sight (NLS) paths. All four models have the same mathematical structure, differing only in their numerical parameters. The two new models (LOS and NLS) for residences closely match those derived from the previous measurements, thus affirming the stability of our path loss modeling. We find, also, that the path loss statistics for the two categories of buildings are quite similar.
For the purpose of decreasing economic loss from the traffic jam, a car route guidance system efficiently utilizing the existing roads has attracted a great deal of attention. In this paper, the search algorithm for optimal path and alternative paths, which is the main function of a car route guidance system, was presented using evolution program. Search efficiency was promoted by changing the population size of path individuals in each generation, applying the concept of age and lifetime to path individuals. Through simulation on the virtual road-traffic network consisting of 100 nodes with various turn constraints and traffic volumes, not only the optimal path with the minimal cost was obtained, avoiding turn constraints and traffic congestion, but also alternative paths with similar costs and acceptable difference was acquired, compared with optimal path.
Given a certain target point, the mobile robot's navigation could be mainly considered about two areas, 'how fast and accurate' and 'how safe'. Such problems regarding the velocity and stability possess close relationship with the path in which the mobile robot navigates in. Thus, the system proposed in this research paper was constructed so the mobile robot can obtain the optimum path by utilizing the information according to the environmental map, based on the Global Path Planning. Also by inducing the Local Path Planning method, it was constructed so that the robots can avoid the obstacles, which were not shown in the environmental map on-line. Particularly, by fusing the Local and Global Path Planning together, it is possible for the robots to plan similar path. At the same time, the focus was on the materialization of effective mobile robot's navigation. It was made possible by utilizing the Fuzzy Logic Control. Also, the validity of the algorithm proposed was proven through the trial experiment.
In recent times, Natural User Interface/Natural User Experience (NUI/NUX) technology has found widespread application across a diverse range of fields and is also utilized for controlling unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Even if the user controls the UAV by utilizing the NUI/NUX technology, it is difficult for the user to easily control the UAV. The user needs an autopilot to easily control the UAV. The user needs a flight path to use the autopilot. The user sets the flight path based on the waypoints. UAVs normally fly straight from one waypoint to another. However, if flight between two waypoints is in a straight line, UAVs may collide with obstacles. In order to solve collision problems, flight records can be utilized to adjust the generated path taking the locations of the obstacles into consideration. This paper proposes a natural path generation method between waypoints based on flight records collected through UAVs flown by users. Bayesian probability is utilized to select paths most similar to the flight records to connect two waypoints. These paths are generated by selection of the center path corresponding to the highest Bayesian probability. While the K-means algorithm-based straight-line method generated paths that led to UAV collisions, the proposed method generates paths that allow UAVs to avoid obstacles.
In the path traveling of differential-drive robots, the steering controller plays an important role in determining the path-following performance. When a robot with a pure-pursuit algorithm is used to continuously drive a right-angled driving path in an unstructured environment without turning in place, the robot cannot accurately follow the right-angled path and stops driving due to the ground and motor load caused by turning. In the case of pure-pursuit, only the current robot position and the steering angle to the current target path point are generated, and the steering component does not reflect the speed plan, which requires improvement for precise path following. In this study, we propose a driving algorithm for differentially driven robots that enables precise path following by planning the driving speed using the radius of curvature and fusing the planned speed with the steering angle of the existing pure-pursuit controller, similar to the Model Predict Control control that reflects speed planning. When speed planning is applied, the robot slows down before entering a right-angle path and returns to the input speed when leaving the right-angle path. The pure-pursuit controller then fuses the steering angle calculated at each path point with the accelerated and decelerated velocity to achieve more precise following of the orthogonal path.
We estimated phenotypic selection on the height and number of flowering-stalks in a rosette annual Cardamine hirsuta by applying path analysis to the data collected at three natural populations located in central Japan. The path from rosette size was positively connected with the fruit production through the both height and number of flowering-stalks. In the all three populations, the paths from the number of stalks were more strongly connected with the fruit production than from the height of stalks. The paths from the rosette size showed similar magnitude with the number of stalks and the height of stalks. The direct path from rosette size to the fruit production was detected only at one site. These results suggest stronger phenotypic selection on the rosette size through the number of stalks than the height of stalks. The lateral branching rather than increment of individual inflorescence size is the major response to control the fruit production for C. hirsuta growing in a natural habitat.
