Experimental study on effects of factors on the reaction crystallization of silver chloride in rushton type reactor. The size and size distributions of the silver chloride crystals were observed to be markedly affected by the agitation speed of solution, and feeding rate, feeding mode and concentration of reactants. From experimental data it was inferred that in the reaction crystallization of silver chloride the supersaturation level of silver chloride and concentration of excess ions in the solution, and mass transfer rate around the crystals were implicitly interrelated with factors and directly affected on the crystal nucleation and grwoth processes. However, the morphology of the silver chloride crystal was not changed by factors.

Facilitated transport is one of the possible solutions to simultaneously improve permeability and selectivity, which is challenging in conventional polymer-based membranes. Olefin/paraffin separation using facilitated transport membrane has received much attention as an alternative solution to the conventional distillation process. Herein, we report olefin separation composite membranes based on the polymer blends containing $AgBF_4/Al(NO_3)_3$ mixed salts. Free radical polymerization process was used to synthesize an amphiphilic graft copolymer of poly(dimethyl siloxane)-graft- poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate (PDMS-g-POEM). In addition, poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) was introduced to the PDMS-g-POEM graft copolymer to form polymer blends with various ratios. The propylene/propane mixed-gas selectivity and permeance reached up to 5.6 and 10.05 GPU, respectively, when the PEO loading was 70 wt% in polymer blend. The improvement of olefin separation performance was attributed to the olefin facilitating silver ions as well as the highly permeable blend matrix. The stabilization of silver ions in the composite membrane was achieved through the introduction of $Al(NO_3)_3$ which suppressed the reduction of silver ions to silver particles.

Silver nanoparticles has been prepared by the $\gamma$-irradiation and in situ reduction methods. Based on the Raman spectra, TEM images, X-ray Diffraction (XRD) patterns and UV-vis spectra, the in situ reduction method is more stable and the average size of the silver nanoparticles is also smaller than by the $\gamma$-irradiation reduction method. It is identified that the silver ions interacting with nonbonding electrons of oxygen atom in the carbonyl group of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) by the in situ reduction method. It is also found advantages of the in situ reduction method including no additional reducing agents, without $\gamma$-irradiations treatment and the room temperature treatment suitability.
An amperometric method has been developed for the titration of silver with 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4,-thiadiazole in ammonical solution (1N) using rotating platinum electrode as an indicator electrode and the mercury-mercury (II) iodide as reference electrode. Direct titration of milligram amount of silver (0.05-1.0mg) is possible in the presence of a number of foreign ions in ammonical solution containing ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid as masking agent under atmosphere. The interfering elements are gold and platinum. The milligram amount of silver can be determined by the proposed method within an error ${\pm}3{\%}$.
In order to incorporate silver ions into the alginate, silver-alginate was prepared with aqueous solutions of silver nitrate. In the study, the silver-alginate was prepared by blending with poly vinylpyrrolidone solutions and the electrospinning was performed by using this blend solution. Antibacterial properties of silver-alginate/PVP solutions were estimated for Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus by the colony counting test. Electrospinning conditions of silver-alginate/PVP solution were the tip-to-collector distance of 22 cm, the flow rate of the solution at 0.01 mL/min, and the voltage at 26 kV. The form and size of silver-alginate/PVP nanofibers were estimated by SEM and Image J. The average diameter of the electrospun SA5P15 fibers was 124 nm and showed a narrow diameter distribution. The reduction of bacteria for SA5P15 exhibited 99.9% after 24 h.
A new method for the simultaneous determination of seven transition metal ions in water and food by microcolumn high-performance liquid chromatography has been developed. The lead, cadmium, mercury, nickel, cobalt, silver and tin ions were pre-column derivatized with tetra-(4-aminophenyl)-porphyrin ($T_4$-APP) to form the colored chelates which were then enriched by solid phase extraction with $C_{18}$ cartridge. The enrichment factor of 50 was achieved by eluted the retained chelates from the cartridge with tetrahydrofuran (THF). The chelates were separated on a ZORBAX Stable Bound microcolumn ($2.0{\times}50\;mm,\;1.8\;{\mu}m$)with methanol-tetrahydrofuran (95 : 5, v/v, containing 0.05 mol/L pyrrolidine-acetic acid buffer salt, pH = 10.0) as mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min and detected with a photodiode array detector from 350-600 nm. The seven chelates were separated completely within 2.0 min. The detection limits of lead, cadmium, mercury, nickel, cobalt, silver and tin are 4 ng/L, 3 ng/L, 6 ng/L, 5 ng/L, 5 ng/L, 6 ng/L, 4 ng/L respectively in the original samples. This method was applied to the determination of the seven transition metal in water and food samples with good results.
Facilitated transport membranes for the separation of olefin/paraffin mixtures have long been of interest in separation membrane science because olefins, such as propylene and ethylene, which are important chemicals in petrochemical industries, are currently separated by energy-intensive cryogenic distillation processes. Recently, solid polymer electrolyte membranes containing silver ions have demonstrated remarkable performance in the separation of olefin/paraffin mixtures in the solid state and, thus, they can be considered as alternatives to cryogenic distillation. Here, we review recent progress, and critical issues affecting in the use of facilitated olefin transport membranes; in particular, we provide a general overview with reference to carrier properties, transport mechanisms, and separation performance.
The hydroxyapatite(HAp) as a carrier the for ion exchange agent of $Ag^+$ions was prepared in semiconductor fabrication, The Ca/P molar ratio of the HAp was 1.65. The HAp is molded in shape of the antimcrobial ball and then sintered at 100$0^{\circ}C$ Ag-containing HAp(HAp-Ag) was prepared by incorporating $Ag^+$/ions in HAp crystals through an ion-exchange reaction in solutions containing 0.01M $AgNO_3$. The antimicrobial effect of HAp-Ag for bacteria such as Escherichial coli and Staphylococcus aureus has been Investigated. The concentrations of silver in the antimicrobial ball was determined by inductively coupled plasma and the amount of $Ag^+$ions was 9.0$\mu\textrm{g}$/g. The HAp-Ag exhibited excellent antimicrobial effect for bacteria such as E. coli and S. aureus. The bactericidal activity was considered to be caused by direct contact of bacteria with $Ag^+$ions in the HAp crystals. The HAp would likely to be possible as a carrier of antimicrobial metal ions such as Ag, Cu, and Zn by recycling of waste sludge in the semiconductor fabrication process.

Silver ions of poly(vinyl chloride)-g-poly(styrene sulfonic acid) (PVC-g-PSSA) graft copolymer were reduced to form silver nanoparticles under thermal condition ($80^{\circ}C$). We were successful in synthesizing silver nanoparticles with various morphologies by changing reaction time. At short reaction times (~1 h), silver nanoparticles with 5 nm in size were formed without disrupting a microphase-separated structure of graft copolymer. At medium reaction times (~5 h), silver nanoparticles were aggregated to form large clusters ranging 30~50 nm in size. At much longer reaction times (~18 h), hurricane-like silver clusters were observed due to strong particle aggregation.
The preparation of Ag nano-powder from aqueous silver nitrate solution, which would be available for the recycling of silver bearing wastes, was investigated by a reductive precipitation reaction using hydrazine hydrate as a reducing agent. Silver solution was prepared by dissolving silver nitrate with distilled water, and then the dispersant, Tamol NN8906 or Tween 20, was also mixed to avoid the agglomeration of particles during the reductive reaction followed by the addition of hydrazine hydrate to prepare Ag nano-particles. Ag particles obtained from the reduction reaction from silver solution were characterized using the particle size analyzer and TEM to determine the particle size distribution and morphology. It was found that about 100% excess of hydrazine hydrate was required to reduce completely silver ions in the solution. Ag powders with very narrow distribution could be obtained when Tamol NN8906 was used as the dispersant. In case of Tween 20, the particle size distribution showed typically the bimodal or multimodal distribution and the morphology of Ag particles was found to be irregular shape in both cases.
