This paper studies the behavior of mooring line of silt protector according to the change of sea level. It is found from the analysis of the behavior that if the taut cable length has been determined appropriately within the range of safety factor, the tensioned cable has almost constant tension regardless of the water depth. The whole structure, however, becomes unstable due to the loss (zero tension) of the released cable tension. It is also recognized from the investigation for the effect of intial straight line angle on the behavior of mooring line that the design through the conceptually combined consideration of the cable tension, total scope and buoy deflection has to be required in the mooring analysis. Finally, the material of cable is not damaged because the cable tension is reduced by attached shellfish, but the whole structure may be also unstable by the effect on the anchor angle, total scope and buoy deflection.
Piles are widely used in structural foundations of engineering projects. However, the deformation of the soil around the pile caused by driving process has an adverse effect on adjacent existing underground buildings. Many previous studies have addressed related problems in sand and saturated clay. Nevertheless, the failure mechanism of pile driving in unsaturated soil remains scarcely reported, and this issue needs to be studied. In this study, a modeling test system based on particle image velocimetry (PIV) was developed for studying deformation characteristics of pile driving in unsaturated silt with different water contents. Meanwhile, a series of direct shear tests and soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) tests also were conducted. The test results show that the displacement field shows an apparent squeezing effect under the pile end. The installation pressure and displacement field characteristics are sensitive to the water content. The installation pressure is the largest and the total displacement field is the smallest, for specimens compacted at water content of 11.5%. These observations can be reasonably interpreted according to the relevant unsaturated silt theory derived from SWCC tests and direct shear tests. The variation characteristics of the soil displacement field reflect the macroscopic mechanical properties of the soil around the pile.
Soil moisture is an important factor for the availability and circulation of nutrients in arable soil. The purpose of this study was to set thresholds moisture content on soil nitrate concentration in the solution for real-time diagnosis. Sandy loam, silt loam, and sandy loam was filled with $1.2g\;cm^{-3}$ at Wagner pots, 0, 100, and $200mg\;L^{-1}$ of $KNO_3$ was saturated. Nitrate in standard solution was recovered about 95% by passing the porous cup. Nitrate concentrations in sampling of soil solution were examined by using a porous cup. The soil solution was higher in accordance with sandy loam> silt loam> clay loam, limited water filled pore space for sampling soil solution was 33.7, 56.4, and 62.2%, respectively. Nitrate concentration in the soil solution was negligible at sandy loam and silt loam during sampling periods, which was decreased about 50~82% in clay loam compared to the initial $NO_3$-N concentration in the saturated $KNO_3$ solution. Over limitation of soil solution sampling, soil EC and $NO_3$-N content were increased with the saturated $NO_3$-N concentration, regardless of soil texture (p<0.05). Conclusively, soil solution by using a porous cup was possible, regardless of the soil texture, which was useful for the diagnosis in nitrate concentration of soil solution. However, because nitrate concentration of soil solution in a clay loam changes, it was necessary for careful attention in order to take advantage for the real-time diagnosis of nitrogen management in soil.
The sedimentation pattern in Namhaepo Bay, a macrotidal coastal embayment of western Korea, was investigated by means of analysing high-resolution seismic profiles, sediment samples, and tidal currents. Recent sediments up to 20 m which overlie the irregular surface of the acoustic basement. The sediments consist mainly of sandy silt and silt; the mean grain size of these sediments ranges from 4 to 5.5 phi, showing a shoreward-fining distribution pattern. This distribution pattern agrees are largely reversed during ebb, with a maximum velocity of 39 cm/sec. The calculated shear velocity of the tidal currents at sea bed ranges from 0.5 to 3.3 cm/sec during flood and from 0.7 to 2.5 cm/sec during ebb. The mean values of these velocities exceed the critical shear velocity for the silt particles. The data suggest that the tidal currents play an important role in the transportation and deposition of sediments in the bay and the surface topography of the sea floor is largely deter-mined by tidal sedimentation.

In this paper, breakdown characteristics of soil in a coaxial cylindrical electrode system stressed by impulse currents were experimentally investigated. The breakdown voltage and current waveforms for 4 types of soils were measured, and the threshold electric field intensity, the time-lag to breakdown and the voltage-current (V-I) curves were analyzed and discussed. As a result, the breakdown voltage and current waveforms are strongly dependent on the grain size of soil, and the voltage and current waveforms for gravel and sand differ from those for silt and loess. The threshold electric field intensity Ec is increased in the order of gravel, sand, loess and silt. The V-I curves for all test samples show a 'cross-closed loop' of ${\infty}$-shape. Also, the time-lag to breakdown for gravel and sand are longer than those for silt and loess. It is expected that the results presented in this paper will provide useful information on the design of improving transient performance of a grounding electrode system subjected to lightning current considering the soil ionization.

A flooded rice field is one of the significant sources of anthropogenic methane (CH4) with the intensity of the emissions dependent on management practices. Incorporation of rice straw, which is one of the organic amendments, induces the increase of methane emissions during the flooding season. In this study, we measured of methane emission according to applications of rice straw in different soil textures during a cultivation period in 2017 and 2018. The fallow treatments were non application of rice straw (NA), spring plowing after spring spreading of rice straw (SPSA), spring plowing after previous autumn spreading of rice straw (SPAA), and autumn plowing after previous autumn spreading of rice straw (APAA). The SPSA treatment emitted the highest total methane from loam soil in both 2017 (596.7 CH4 kg ha-1) and 2018 (795.4 CH4 kg ha-1). The same trend was observed in silt clay loam soil; the SPSA treatment still emitted the highest amount of methane in both 2017 (845.9 CH4 kg ha-1) and 2018 (1,071.7 CH4 kg ha-1). The lowest emission among the rice straw incorporated plots came from the APAA treatment for both soil texture types in all the seasons. The conversion factors of the SPAA were 0.79 and 0.65 from the loam and silt clay loam soils, respectively. Relatedly, the conversion factors of the APAA were 0.71 and 0.43 from the loam and silt clay loam soils, respectively. The above observations mean therefore that incorporation of rice straw early in the fallow reduces methane emissions in the main rice growing season.
In order to select a proper ground improvement technology and to assess the quality and rate of improvement in the soft deposits. it is essential to characterize in-situ properties of the soft marine clay layer that may have many thin silt or sand seams. In this paper, both piezocone and flat dilatometer tests were performed to characterize in situ properties of a marine clay. Both tests provided quite similar site classifications, and in both tests the penetration pore water pressure was the better indicator for the classification of marine clay layer, especially in which sand or silt seams are frequently interbedded. Undrained strengths determined by both the cone tip resistance and the excess pore water pressure measured from piezocone were very similar in clayey soil layers. And the untrained strength determined by dilatometer had an approximately average value of undiained strengths obtained from piezocone. In addition, the theoretical time factor that can consider pore pressure dissipation effect during cone penetration may provide a reliable estimation of the coefficient of consolidation, especially for a coastal site which includes many silt or sand fractions or seams.

In this papers, we study the characteristics of dual band PIFA(Planar Inverted F antenna) for handy phones using H-type silt in the antenna radiators. Slit types on the antenna radiator vary resonance mechanism of the antenna and affect reactance component of impedance for the antenna. Therefore the antennas resonate at the dual band(cellular -band, Korea-PCS band), the bandwidth, input impedance and radiation patterns of the proposed antenna is affected by the silt length on the radiators. In order to demonstrate the validity of the proposed theory, it is implementation the antenna of the 4 types. From results for the experiment of the implementation antenna, -5 dB bandwidth of return loss is content with the allocated bandwidth of Cellular and Korea-PCS system the gains of the antenna is about -8$\~$ - 1 dB, the radiation patterns for x-polarized or y-polarized are omnidirectional pattern. From above the results of this papers, it is conclude mobile phones antenna for handy phones using this papers results.
This paper presents an investigation on the properties of two types of cement kiln dust (CKD)-stabilized dredged sediments, silt and clay with a comparison to hydrated lime stabilization. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS) and California bearing ratio (CBR) tests were conducted to examine the optimal stabilizer content and classify the type of highway material. A strength development model of treated dredged sediments was performed. The influences of various stabilizer types and sediment types on UCS were interpreted with the aid of microstructural observations, including X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy analysis. The results of the tests revealed that 6% of lime by dry weight can be suggested as optimal content for the improvement of clay and silt as selected materials. For CKD-stabilized sediment as soil cement subbase material, the use of 8% CKD was suggested as optimal content for clay, whereas 6% CKD was recommended for silt; the overall CBR value agreed with the UCS test. The reaction products calcium silicate hydrate and ettringite are the controlling mechanisms for the mechanical performance of CKD-stabilized sediments, whereas calcium aluminate hydrate is the control for lime-stabilized sediments. These results will contribute to the use of CKD as a sustainable and novel stabilizer for lime in highway material applications.
The solvent flushing apparatus for soil remediation was designed. After the soil around nuclear facilities was sampled and compulsorily contaminated by Co, the characteristics remediated by solvent flushing were analyzed. Meanwhile, the nonequilibrium sorption code was developed for modelling of the soil remediation by solvent flushing, input parameters needed for modelling were measured by laboratory experiment. Experimental results are as follows : The soil around nuclear facilities belongs to Silt Loam including a lot of silt and sand. When water was used as a solvent, the higher was the hydraulic conductivity. the higher the efficiency of soil remediation was. The values calculated by the nonequilibrium sorption code agreed with experimental values more exactly than the values calculated by the equilibrium sorption code. When EDTA solution was used as a solvent. the soil remediation efficiency by EDTA solution showed higher than that by water.
