Rheology of Hollow Polyaniline Gutarate Suspension Under DC Electric Field

  • The electrical and rheological behavior of the hollow polyaniline glutarate suspension in silicone oil was investigated. Hollow polyaniline glutarate suspension showed a typical ER response (Bingham flow behavior) under a DC electric field. The shear stress for the suspension exhibited the dependence with a factor equals to 0.95 power on the electric field. The experimental results for the hollow polyaniline glutarate suspension behaved as an ER fluid.

  • The electrical and rheological properties of a chitosan malonate suspension in silicone oil was investigated by varying the electric fields, volume fractions of particles, and shear rates, respectively, The chitosan malonate susepnsion showed a typical electrorheological (ER) response caused by the polarizability of an amide polar group and shear yield stress due to the formation of multiple chains upon application of an electric field. The shear stress fur the suspension exhibited a linear dependence on the volume fraction and an electric field power of 1.88. On the basis of the experimental results, the newly synthesized chitosan malonate suspension was found to be an anhydrous ER fluid.

  • The electrorheological(ER) behavior of hollow polyaniline(PANI) sebacate suspension in silicone oil was investigated by varying the electric fields and shear rates, respectively.   • This paper presents vibration mode control of a smart plate containing electro-rheological (ER) fluid between elastic face layers. Following the composition of a silicone oil-based ER fluid, the ER fluid-embedded plate partitioned into four sections is constructed. Then, an extensive modal test is experimentally carried out to identify field-dependent modal parameters such as mode shapes and natural frequencies of the structure with respect to different are subjected to electric fields. The distilled results from the experiment exhibit that the ER fluid can be effectively employed in a continuous fashion to tune modal behaviors of the distributed parameter systems,

  • In this work, durability characteristics of electrorheological (ER) fluid for damper application are experimentally investigated. ER fluid is prepared by using phosphorated starch particles and silicone oil. The field-dependent Bingham characteristics and response time for the proposed ER fluids are experimentally obtained. Experimental apparatus of durability test for ER fluid is established with cylindrical ER cylinder for mid-sized passenger vehicle. In order to evaluate the durability characteristics of ER fluid as a function of time, damping force and temperature variations are measured until one million cycles. After durability test, Bingham characteristics and response time of ER fluid are measured and compared to the initial properties. Microscopic pictures of ER fluid are taken to validate the changes of properties. The results indicate that the ER fluid can be commercially utilized in vehicle damper system with its durability performance. Moreover, the understanding of durability characteristics is essential to predict the service life of ER fluid as well as to design its applications.

  • Electro-Rheological(ER) fluid are suspensions which show an abrupt increase in rheological properties under electric fields. ER effects arise from electrostatic forces between the starch particles dispersed in the electrically insulating silicone oil, induced when an electric field is applied. Yield stress of the fluids were measured on the couette cell type rheometer as a function of electric fields. This paper presents performance analyses of four types of the two parallel-plate. Which have different electrode length and width but same electrode area. On the basis of the pressure drop and flow rate analysis. Four types of the two parallel-plate are designed and manufactured. Using ER fluid, it is possible to directly interface between electric signals and fluid power without moving parts.

  • Polystyrene (PS) was coated on carbonyl iron (CI) particles via dispersion polymerization to produce core-shell structured CI/PS particles and adopted as magnetorheological (MR) material. Two MR fluids were prepared by dispersing CI/PS and CI particles in silicone oil. Their MR and tribological properties were investigated using a rheometer and a reciprocating friction and wear tester, respectively. Experimental data showed that tribological properties of MR fluid based on CI/PS particles are significantly enhanced compared to those of CI based MR fluid. Sedimentation problem of CI/PS MR fluid was also expected to be improved due to relatively lower density of CI/PS particles.

  • Silicone fluid(polydimethylsiloxane) is widely used in breast augmentation and other cosmetic procedures because of little incidence of complications and low mortality rate. However, local reaction following silicone injections can be occurred sometimes leading to serious complications. Especially, illicit silicone injections have resulted in severe reactions within the pulmonary area, and some have resulted in acute respiratory distress syndrome subsequently. We experienced a case of acute respiratory distress syndrome induced by subcutaneous injections of silicone at vaginal wall. The patients was 39-year-old, previously healthy woman who had complained of dyspnea related to silicone injection at vaginal wall. Chest X-ray and chest CT scan show diffuse air consolidation with ground glass opacities and perfusion lung scan revealed likelihood of pulmonary embolism as showing multiple perfusion defects. We report a case of acute respiratory distress syndrome occured after silicone injection with review of literature.

  • The purpose of this experiment is to modify diagnosis criterion of isothermal relaxation current(IRC) measurement equipment which is using for distribution cable diagnosis. We're using this system for several years in the field instead of DC leakage current measurement and lots of cables were replaced. But we have to investigate on the reliability of this equipment for our cables because we didn't carried out condition assessment of extracted cables after field diagnosis by this equipment. It is important thing for cable maintenance. If the replacement criterion is improper we can not prevent failures or will waste budget on account of replacement of the sound cables. In this paper we selected field installed cables and injected silicone fluid to the cables for insulation rehabilitation. In order to prove reliability of the diagnosis equipment we compared diagnosis results and AC breakdown strength according to operating time after silicone treatment. This is the results of the field test for 1 year.

  • We have investigated the surface state of 154kV polymeric insulators exposed to in-service conditions for about five years. In order to evaluate surface aging of silicone rubber exposed to real field environments, we used various analytic methods such as contact angle, ATR-FTIR, SEM-EDS. Although contaminants were accumulated on weathershed surface, polymeric insulator has retained its intrinsic surface hydrophocity. In addition, ATR-FTIR confirmed the diffusion layer of a low molecular weight silicone fluid on surface layer and no surface cracking and chalking were Indicated by SEM. Polymeric insulators have still retained their improved pollution performance over porcelain insulators. That will lead to very low frequency of flashovers throughout their useful life, often under contaminated conditions.
