  • In this paper, the $CoSi_2$ thin films with thicknesses of about $5{\mu}m$ were deposited on n-type silicon (111) substrates by RF magnetron sputtering method using a $CoSi_2$ target (99.99%). The flow rate of argon of 50 sccm, substrate temperature of $100^{\circ}C$, RF power of 60 watts, deposition time of 30 minutes, and the vacuum of $1\times10^{-6}$ Torr. The annealing treatments of the $CoSi_2$ thin film were performed from 500, 700 and $900^{\circ}C$ for 1h in air ambient by an electric furnace. In order to investigate the $CoSi_2$ thin film X-ray diffraction patterns were measured using the X-ray diffractometer (XRD). The structure of the thin films were investigated by using scanning the electron microscope (SEM) were used for review. The surface morphology of the thin films was measured with a atomic force microscopy (AFM). Temperature dependence of sheet resistivity and property of Hall effect was measured in the $CoSi_2$ thin film.

  • This paper presents a process optimization of antireflectiun (AR) coating on crystalline Si solar cells. Theoretical and experimental investigations were performed on a doble-layer AR(DLAR) coating of MgF$_2$/CeO$_2$, We investigated CeO$_2$ films as an All layer because they hale a proper refractive index of 2.46 and demonstrate the same lattice constant as Si substrate. RF sputter grown CeO$_2$ film showed strong dependence on a deposition temperature. The CeO$_2$ film deposited at 400 $^{\circ}C$ exhibited a strong (111) preferred orientation and the lowest surface roughness of 6.87 $\AA$. Refractive index of MgF$_2$ film was measured as 1.386 for the most of growth temperature. An optimized DLAR coating showed a reflectance as low as 2.04 % in the wavelengths ranged from 0.4 7m to 1.1 7m. We achieved the efficiencies of solar cells greater than 15% with 3.12 % improvement with DLAR coatings . Further details on MgF$_2$, CeO$_2$ films, and cell fabrication Parameters are presented in this paper.

  • This paper presents deposition and characterizations of microcrystalline silicon ($\mu$ c-Si:H) films prepared by hot wire chemical vapor deposition at substrate temperature at 300$^{\circ}C$. The flow rates of $SiH_4$ gas are critical parameter for the formation of Si films with microcrystalline phase. We could obtain $\mu$ c-Si:H with columnar grain structure and volume fraction of 75% without H2 dilution. The electronic properties, hydrogen bonding configurations, and $H_2$ concentration inside the films are also strongly affected by $SiH_4$ flow rate, which is provided in this paper.

  • Vertically aligned multiwalled carbon nanotubes are grown on silicon oxide substrate at 950$^{\circ}C$ by thermal chemical vapor deposition using $C_{2}H_2$. Three catalytic metals such as iron(Fe), cobalt (Co), and nickel(Ni) are used as catalyst, we found that the growth rate of carbon nanotubes for three catalyst particles are in an order of Fe > Ni > Co. All carbon nanotubes are revealed to have bamboo structure with no encapsulated catalytic particles, the diameter of carbon nanotubes depend on the catalyst, the tip and the compartment sheets of bamboo structure also depend on the shape of catalytic particles.

  • Micro-machining of a brittle material such as glass, silicon, etc., is important in micro fabrication. Particularly, micro-abrasive jet machining (${\mu}-AJM$) has become a useful technique for micro-machining of such materials. The ${\mu}-AJM$ process is mainly based on the erosion of a mask which protects brittle substrate against high velocity of micro-particle. Therefore, fabrication of an adequate mask is very important. Generally, for the fabrication of a mask in the ${\mu}-AJM$ process, a photomask based on the semi-conductor fabrication process was used. In this research a rapid mask fabrication technology has been developed for the ${\mu}-AJM$. By scanning the focused UV laser beam, a micro-mask pattern was fabricated directly without photolithography process and photomask. Two kinds of mask patterns were fabricated using SU-8 and photopolymer (Watershed 11110). Using fabricated mask patterns, abrasive-jet machining of Si wafer were conducted successfully.

  • This paper shows experimentally that oxide layer on the p-type Si-substrate can grow at low temperature(500$^{\circ}C$∼600$^{\circ}C$) using high pressure water vapor system. As the result of experiment, oxide layer growth rate is about 0.19${\AA}$/min at 500$^{\circ}C$, 0.43${\AA}$/min at 550$^{\circ}C$, 1.2${\AA}$/min at 600$^{\circ}C$ respectively. So, we know oxide layer growth follows reaction-controlled mechanism in given temperature range. Consequently, granting that oxide layer growth rate increases linearly to temperature over 600$^{\circ}C$, we can expect oxide growth rate is 5.2${\AA}$/min at 1000$^{\circ}C$. High pressure oxidation of silicon is particularly attractive for the thick oxidation of power MOSFET, because thermal oxide layers can grow at relatively low temperature in run times comparable to typical high-temperature, 1 atm conditions. For higher-temperature, high-pressure oxidation, the oxidation time is reduced significantly

  • The vertically well-aligned carbon nanotubes(CNTs) were successfully grown on Ni coated silicon wafer substrate by DC bias-assisted PECVD(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). As a catalyst, Ni thin film of thickness ranging from 15~30nm was prepared by electron beam evaporator method. In order to find the optimum growth condition, the type of gas mixture such as $C_2H_2-NH_3$ was systematically investigated by adjusting the gas mixing ratio at $570^{\circ}C$ under 0.4Torr. The diameter of the grown CNTs was 40~200nm and the diameter of the CNTs increased with increasing the Ni particles size. TEM images clearly showed carbon nanotubes to be multiwalled. The measured turn-on field was $3.9V/\mu\textrm{m}$ and an emission current of $1.4{\times}10^4A/\textrm{cm}^2$ was $7V/\mu\textrm{m}$. The CNTs grown by bias-assisted PECVD was able to demonstrate high quality in terms of vertical alignment, crystallization of graphite and the processing technique at low temperature of $570^{\circ}C$ and this can be applied for the emitter tip of FEDs.

  • Surfactant-wrapped separation methods of metallic and semiconducting single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) can result in large changes in intrinsic physical and chemical properties due to electronic interactions between a nanotube and a surfactant. Our approach to synthesize SWCNTs with an electronic feature relied on utilizing carbon nanorings, [n] cycloparaphenylenes ([n]CPPs), which are the fundamental unit of armchair type SWCNTs (a-SWCNTs) that possess a metallic feature without any surfactants. To obtain long tubular structures from [n]CPPs, the host-guest complexes formed with well-aligned [n]CPP hosts and various fullerene guests on a silicon substrate were pyrolyzed under an ethanol gas flow at a high temperature with focused-ultraviolet laser irradiation. The pyrolyzed [n]CPPs were observed to transform from nanorings to tubular structures with 1.5-1.7 nm diameters corresponding to the employed diameter of [n]CPPs. Our approach suggests that [n]CPPs are useful for structure-controlled synthesis of SWCNTs.

  • A micro flow sensor on silicon substrate allows the fabrication of small components where many different functions can be integrated so that the functionality of the sensors can be increased. Further more, due to the small size of the elements the sensors can be quite fast. A thermal mass flow sensor measures the asymmetry of temperature profile around the heater which is modulated by the fluid flow. In normal, a mass flow sensor is composed of a central heater and a pair of temperature sensing elements around the heater. A new 2-D wide range micro flow sensor structure with three pairs of temperature sensors and a central heater was proposed and numerically simulated by the Finite difference formulation to confirm the feasibility of the flow sensor structure.

  • Cerium oxide thin film has been proposed as a buffer layer between the ferroelectric film and the Si substrate in Metal-Ferroelectric-Insulator-Silicon (MFIS ) structures for ferroelectric random access memory (FRAM) applications. In this study, CeO$_2$ thin films were etched with Cl$_2$/Ar gas combination in an inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The highest etch rate of CeO$_2$ film is 230 $\AA$/min at Cl$_2$/(Cl$_2$+Ar) gas mixing ratio of 0.2. This result confirms that CeO$_2$ thin film is dominantly etched by Ar ions bombardment and is assisted by chemical reaction of Cl radicals. The selectivity of CeO$_2$ to YMnO$_3$ was 1.83. As a XPS analysis, the surface of etched CeO$_2$ thin films was existed in Ce-Cl bond by chemical reaction between Ce and Cl. The results of XPS analysis were confirmed by SIMS analysis. The existence of Ce-Cl bonding was proven at 176.15 (a.m.u.).
