For use of superstrate thin-film solar cells, surface texture of the transparent conductive oxide (TCO) has been used to enhance short-circuit currents by increasing light trapping into the cell. ZnO:Al films were deposited by using DC magnetron sputtering on glass substrates with ceramic (ZnO:$Al_2O_3$) target. The as-deposited TCO before texturing exhibited high transparencies (T > 85% for visible light including all reflection losses) and excellent electrical properties ($r=3-6{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}.cm$). The optical and electrical properties of the TCO are influenced by the texturing conditions such as not only etchant dilutions but also etching time. We obtained the haze value of 14-16 resulting in increase in light trapping and short-circuit currents also.

One-dimensional nanostructures have attracted increasing attention because of their unique electronic, optical, optoelectrical, and electrochemical properties on account of their large surface-to-volume ratio and quantum confinement effect. Vertically grown nanowires have a large surface-to-volume ratio. The vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) process has attracted considerable attention for its self-alignment capability during the growth of nanostructures. In this study, vertically aligned silicon oxide nano-pillars were grown on Si\$SiO_2$(300 nm)\Pt substrates using two-zone thermal chemical vapor deposition system via the VLS process. The morphology and crystallographic properties of the grown silicon oxide nano-pillars were investigated by field emission scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The diameter and length of the grown silicon oxide nano-pillars were found to be dependent on the catalyst films. The body of the silicon oxide nano-pillars exhibited an amorphous phase, which is consisted with Si and O. The head of the silicon oxide nano-pillars was a crystalline phase, which is consisted with Si, O, Pt, and Ti. The vertical alignment of the silicon oxide nano-pillars was attributed to the preferred crystalline orientation of the catalyst Pt/Ti alloy. The vertically aligned silicon oxide nano-pillars are expected to be applied as a functional nano-material.

Polycrystalline silicon (pc-Si) films are fabricated and characterized for application to pc-Si thin film solar cells as a seed layer. The amorphous silicon films are crystallized by the aluminum-induced layer exchange (ALILE) process with a structure of glass/Al/$Al_2O_3$/a-Si using various thicknesses of $Al_2O_3$ layers. In order to investigate the effects of the oxide layer on the crystallization of the amorphous silicon films, such as the crystalline film detects and the crystal grain size, the $Al_2O_3$ layer thickness arc varied from native oxide to 50 nm. As the results, the defects of the poly crystalline films are increased with the increase of $Al_2O_3$ layer thickness, whereas the grain size and crystallinity are decreased. In this experiments, obtained the average pc-Si sub-grain size was about $10\;{\mu}m$ at relatively thin $Al_2O_3$ layer thickness (${\leq}$ 16 nm). The preferential orientation of pc-Si sub-grain was <111>.

Copper oxide films have been deposited on silicon substrates by direct current magnetron sputtering of Cu in O2 / Ar gas mixtures. The target oxidation occurring as a result of either adsorption or ion-plating of reactive gases to the target has a direct effect on the discharge current and the resulting composition of the deposited films. The kinetic model which relates the target oxidation to the discharge current was proposed, showing the one-to-one relationship between discharge current characteristics and film stoichiometry of the deposited films.

Silicon oxide thin films are prepared by plasma-enhanced CVD (PECVD) using 100kHz and 13.56MHz generators. Source gases are two sorts of mixture, tetramethoxysilane (TMOS) and oxygen, and tetramethylsilane (TMS) and oxygen. We investigate the effect of frequency on film properties of deposited films including mechanical properties. 100kHz PECVD process can deposit silicon oxide films at $23^{\circ}C$ at the power of 20W. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and ellipsometric measurements reveal that the structural quality of the films prepared both by 100kHz process and by 13.56MHz process are very like silicon dioxide. The 100kHz process is adequate for low temperature deposition of SiOx films.

In situ measurement of infrared absorption spectra has been performed during low-temperature plasma-enhanced chemical vapor depositiion of silicon-oxide films using tetramethoxysilane as a silicon source. Several absorption bands due to the reactant molecules are clearly observed before deposition. In the plasma, these bands completely disappear at any oxygen mixing ratio. This result shows that most of the tetramethoxysilane molecules are dissociated in the rf plasma, even C-H bonds. Existence of Si-H bonds in vapor phase and/or on the film surface during deposition has been found by infrared diagnostics. We observed both a decrease in Si-OH absorption and an increase in Si-O-Si after plasma off, which means the dehydration condensation reaction continues after deposition. The rate of this reaction is much slower than the deposition ratio of the films.

In this paper, we describe the current status and issues of the oxide thin-film transistors (OTFTs), which attract much attention as an emerging new backplane technology replacing conventional silicon-based TFTs technologies. First, the unique benefits of OTFTs will be presented as a backplane for large-sized AMOLED including note-book PC, second TV and HD-TV. And then, the state-of-the-art transistor performance and uniformity characteristics of OTFTs will be highlighted. The obtained a-IGZO TFTs exhibited the field-effect mobility of $18\;cm^2/Vs$, threshold voltage of 1.8 V, on/off ratio of $10^9$, and subthreshold gate swing of 0.28 V/decade. In addition, the world largest-sized 12.1-inch WXGA active-matrix organic light emitting diode (AMOLED) display is demonstrated using indium-gallium-zinc oxide (IGZO) TFTs.

The recent application of wide band gap oxide semiconductors to transparent thin film transistors (TTFTs) is making a fast and growing (r)evolution on the contemporary solid-state electronics. In this paper we present some of the recent results we have obtained using wide band gap oxide semiconductors, like indium zinc oxide, produced by rf sputtering at room temperature. The devices work in the enhancement mode and exhibit excellent saturation drain currents. On-off ratios above $10^6$ are achieved. The optical transmittance data in the visible range reveals average transmittance higher than 80 %, including the glass substrate. Channel mobilities are also quite respectable, with some devices presenting values around $25\;cm^2/Vs$, even without any annealing or other post deposition improvement processes. The high performances presented by these TTFTs associated to a high electron mobility, at least two orders of magnitude higher than that of conventional amorphous silicon TFTs and a low threshold voltage, opens new doors for applications in flexible, wearable, disposable portable electronics as well as battery-powered applications.

The zinc oxide thin film, which can be applied as the gas sensor of a semiconductor type, was grown on the silicon substrate by CFR(continuous flow reaction) method in this study. The growth property and the electrical property of the zinc oxide thin films synthesized by CFR method were also investigated. Zinc acetate solutions of 0.005~0.02 M were used as the precursor for the preparation of zinc oxide thin films. The size of ZnO particles consisted on the zinc oxide thin film increased not only with increasing concentration of precursor, but also the thickness of thin film increased. The growth rate of zinc oxide thin film by CFR method was proportionably depend on the concentration of precursor and the uniform ZnO thin film was prepared when zinc acetate of 0.01 M is used as the precursor. The charged currents on the zinc oxide thin films were obtained as its electrical property by I-V meter, and increased agree with increasing the thickness of zinc oxide thin film. Thus, it was concluded that the charged current on the zinc oxide thin film can be controlled with changing concentration of precursor solution in CFR method. The charged currents on the zinc oxide thin films also decreased when ZnO thin film is exposed under hydrogen sulfide of 500 ppmv at $300^{\circ}C$ for 5 min. From these results, it could be confirmed that the zinc oxide thin film prepared by CFR method can be used for the detection of sulfur compounds.
The characteristics of N/O(SiOz/SisN4) film on WSi2 are compared with storage node Poly-Si. Leakage current and breakdown voltage are improved and storage capacitance is decreased. The oxidation rate of WSiz is more rapid than polycrystalline silicon. Thus the thick bottom oxide on the WSiz causes to the decrease of capacitance. The out diffusion of dopant impurity in polycrystalline silicon through the silicide leads to the formation of a depletion region in the polycrystalline silicon and the decrease of depletion capacitance. That results in the decrease of the overall storage capacitance.
