Silhouette is useful in computer graphics for a number of techniques such as non-photorealistic rendering, silhouette clipping, and blueprint generating. Methods for generating silhouette are classified into three categories: image-based, object-based, and hybrid-based. Hybrid-based method is effective in terms of time complexity but spatial coherence problem still remains. In this paper, we proposed a new hybrid-based method which produces 3D data for silhouette and also guarantees no spatial coherence problem. To verify the efficiency of the proposed algorithm, several experiments are conducted for various 3D models from simple to quite complex. Results show that our algorithm generates no gap between any two consecutive silhouette lines when the silhouette model is magnified significantly.

Many clustering algorithms have been used in diverse fields. When we need to group given data set into clusters, many clustering algorithms based on similarity or distance measures are considered. Most clustering works have been based on hierarchical and non-hierarchical clustering algorithms. Generally, for the clustering works, researchers have used clustering algorithms case by case from these algorithms. Also they have to determine proper clustering methods subjectively by their prior knowledge. In this paper, to solve the subjective problem of clustering we make empirical comparisons of popular clustering algorithms which are hierarchical and non hierarchical techniques using Silhouette measure. We use silhouette information to evaluate the clustering results such as the number of clusters and cluster variance. We verify our comparison study by experimental results using data sets from UCI machine learning repository. Therefore we are able to use efficient and objective clustering algorithms.
In this paper, we present a method for estimating full 3D shapes from given 2D silhouette images of human bodies. Because the silhouette only consists of the partial information on the true shape, it is an ill-posed problem. To address the problem, we use the statistical human shape space obtained from the existing large 3D human shape database. The method consists of three steps. First, we extract the boundary pixels and their appropriate normal vectors from the input silhouette images. Then, we initialize the correspondences of each pixel to the vertex of the statistically-deformable 3D human model. Finally, we numerically optimize the parameters of the statistical model to fit best to the given silhouettes. The viability and the robustness of the method is demonstrated with various experiments.
We propose a split-encryption scheme on converting original images to multiple ciphertexts. This conversion introduces one random phase-only function (POF) to influence phase distribution of the preliminary ciphertexts. In the encryption process, the original image is mathematically split into two POFs. Then, they are modulated on a spatial light modulator one after another. And subsequently two final ciphertexts are generated by utilizing two-step phase-shifting interferometry. In the decryption process, a high-quality reconstructed image with relative error $RE=7.6061{\times}10^{-31}$ can be achieved only when the summation of the two ciphertexts is Fresnel-transformed to the reconstructed plane. During the verification process, any silhouette information was invisible in the two reconstructed images from different single ciphertexts. Both of the two single REs are more than 0.6, which is better than in previous research. Moreover, this proposed scheme works well with gray images.

Statement of problem: Peri-implant marginal bone loss is an important factor that affects the success of implants in esthetics and function. Various efforts have been made to reduce this bone loss by improving implant design and surface texture. Previous studies have shown that early marginal bone loss is affected by implant neck designs. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of laser microtexturing of implant collar on peri-implant marginal bone loss. Materials and methods: Radiographical marginal bone loss was examined in patients treated with implant-supported fixed partial dentures. Marginal bone level was examined with 101 implant fixtures installed in 53 patients at three periods(at the time of implantation, prosthetic treatment and 6-month after loading). Four types of implants were examined. The differences of bone loss between implants(ITI standard) with enough biologic width and implants(ITI esthetic plus, Silhouette IC, Silhouette IC Laser-$Lok^{TM}$) with insufficient biologic width have been compared. Resorption angles were examined at the time of prosthetic delivery and 6-month after loading. Results and Conclusion: Within the limitation of this study, the following results were drawn. 1. The marginal bone loss of ITI standard and Silhouette IC Laser-$Lok^{TM}$ was less than that of ITI esthetic plus and Silhouette IC(P<0.05). The marginal bone loss between ITI standard and Silhouette IC Laser-$Lok^{TM}$ had no significant statistical difference(P>0.05). There was no significant statistical difference between marginal bone loss of ITI esthetic plus and Silhouette IC(P>0.05). 2. There was no significant difference in marginal bone loss between maxilla and mandible(P>0.05). 3. There was no significant difference in resorption angle among four types of implants(P>0.05). The marginal bone of implants with supracrestal collar design of less than that of biologic width had resorbed more than those with sufficient collar length. The roughness and laser microtexturing of implant neck seem to affect these results. If an implant with collar length of biologic width, exposure of fixture is a possible complication especially in the anterior regions of dentition that demand high esthetics. Short smooth neck implant are often recommended in these areas which may lack the distance between microgap and the marginal bone level. In these cases, the preservation of marginal bone must be put into consideration. From the result of this study, it may be concluded that laser microtexturing of implant neck is helpful in the preservation of marginal bone.
This study was aimed at analyzing how the dualism of hippie style in the modern retro-fashion, namely, the neo hippie style and the hippie chic style were expressed. For this study, domestic & foreign fashion magazines, preceding theses, literatures, an encyclopedia, and Internet sites were reviewed. The results of this study could be summarized as follows; 1. Silhouette : The neo hippie style was expressed in slim and long silhouette to show the natural beauty. The hippie chic style was expressed in various silhouettes depending on designer's tastes. 2. Color : The neo hippie style was expressed in strong color and analogous color coordination to show richness of human nature. The hippie chic style was expressed in psychedelic color, multi-color, and fluorescent color to show an unconventional and a future oriented idea. 3. Material . The neo hippie style used such soft, thin, and flexible materials as chiffon, satin, silk, knit, etc. to show the natural beauty The hippie chic style used expensive and luxurious materials, high-technological materials, harmony of different materials, etc. 4. Pattern . In the neo hippie style, it was generally used various patterns including plant, animal, insect. In the hippie chic style, it was widely used the natural pattern as well as the ethnic pattern. The neo hippie style was characterized by the natural beauty, purity, elegance as style symbolizing the social problem, on the other hand, the hippie chic style was characterized by designer's identity suggesting an idea of new style rather than a symbol of the social problem.

In this paper, we propose object classification algorithm for real-time surveillance system. We have approached this problem using silhouette-based template matching. The silhouette of the object is extracted, and then it is compared with representative template models. Template models are previously stored in the database. Our algorithm is similar to previous pixel-based template matching scheme like Hausdorff Distance, but we use 1D image array rather than 2D regions inspired by Hilbert Path. Transformation of images could reduce computational burden to compute similarity between the detected image and the template images. Experimental results show robustness and real-time performance in object classification, even in low resolution images.
Reliable tracking of moving humans is essential to motion estimation, video surveillance and human-computer interface. This paper presents a new approach to human motion tracking that combines appearance-based and model-based techniques. Monocular color video is processed at both pixel level and object level. At the pixel level, a Gaussian mixture model is used to train and classily individual pixel colors. At the object level, a 3D human body model projected on a 2D image plane is used to fit the image data. Our method does not use inverse kinematics due to the singularity problem. While many others use stochastic sampling for model-based motion tracking, our method is purely dependent on nonlinear programming. We convert the human motion tracking problem into a nonlinear programming problem. A cost function for parameter optimization is used to estimate the degree of the overlapping between the foreground input image silhouette and a projected 3D model body silhouette. The overlapping is computed using computational geometry by converting a set of pixels from the image domain to a polygon in the real projection plane domain. Our method is used to recognize various human motions. Motion tracking results from video sequences are very encouraging.

Gait Recognition is a new technique to identify the people by the way they walk. Human gait is a spatio-temporal phenomenon that typifies the motion characteristics of an individual. The proposed method makes a simple but efficient attempt to gait recognition. For each video file, spatial silhouettes of a walker are extracted by an improved background subtraction procedure using Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM). Here GMM is used as a parametric probability density function represented as a weighted sum of Gaussian component densities. Then, the relevant features are extracted from the silhouette tracked from the given video file using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) method. The Fisher Linear Discriminant Analysis (FLDA) classifier is used in the classification of dimensional reduced image derived by the PCA method for gait recognition. Although gait images can be easily acquired, the gait recognition is affected by clothes, shoes, carrying status and specific physical condition of an individual. To overcome this problem, it is combined with footprint as a multimodal biometric system. The minutiae is extracted from the footprint and then fused with silhouette image using the Discrete Stationary Wavelet Transform (DSWT). The experimental result shows that the efficiency of proposed fusion algorithm works well and attains better result while comparing with other fusion schemes.
This paper proposes a novel approach for the model-based pose matching of a human body using Active Shape Models. To improve the processing time of model creation and registration, we use a skeleton-type model instead of the conventional silhouette-based models. The skeleton model defines feature information that is used to match the human pose. Images used to make the model are for 600 human bodies, and the model has 17 landmarks which indicate the body junction and key features of a human pose. When applying primary Active Shape Models to the skeleton-type model in the matching process, a problem may occur in the proximal joints of the arm and leg due to the color variations on a human body and the insufficient information for the fore-rear directions of profile normals. This problem is solved by using the background subtraction information of a body region in the input image and adding a 4-directions feature of the profile normal in the proximal parts of the arm and leg. In the matching process, the maximum iteration is less than 30 times. As a result, the execution time is quite fast, and was observed to be less than 0.03 sec in an experiment.
