  • Objectives : Atopic Dermatitis is a recurrent, chronic, allergic eczema with severe itching sensation. This study designed to research Sihocheonggan-tang & Sihocheonggan-san to find out treatability for atopic dermatitis. Methods : We got 14 search results with searching word '시호청간탕', '시호청간산' in 'OASIS', 'NDSL', 'RISS'. We classified these studies according to the type of study, diseases, treatment methods and treatment outcomes. Results : In the analysis of the diseases, Sihocheonggan-tang & Sihocheonggan-san was given for Eczema nummulare, Ermatitis seborrheica, Erythema multiforme, Eczema and Atopic dermatitis. In the analysis of the treatment methodes, the dosage form of Sihocheonggan-tang & Sihocheonggan-san was herbal medication, pill, granules and herbal medication & pill. In the analysis of the treatment outcomes, the symptoms of all patients were improved. In the experimental researches, it was proved that Sihocheonggan-tang & Sihocheonggan-san has effects that affect anti-inflammatory, skin protection and recovery of keratinocyte. Conclusions : For this study, we can consider Sihocheonggan-tang & Sihocheonggan-san is effective for atopic deramatitis. So, it is necessary to carry out clinical trial for Sihocheonggan-tang & Sihocheonggan-san in atopic dermatitis to evaluate safety and efficacy.

  • Objectives : To study change of external dermal formation, change of leukocytes in vasculature, change of lipid formation in stratum corneum and distribution of ceramide through administering Sihocheonggan-san (SC) extract on to the control (CON). This study was done through forcing injury to mice's back skin which have lipid protection formation in stratum corneum. Materials and Methods : The CON to which damage was caused intentionally using the external application on the mice's back skin used the SC. The change of leukocytes in vasculature were identified through optima 5.2 and Student's t-test and the results were made into a dermal formation graph. Results : After dispensing SC extract into the CON, dermal injury was decreased. Especially, recover of lipid protection formation, which includes lipid and ceramide in stratum corneum suppressing acute inflammation that some factors are PKC, TNF-α, IL-12B which controlled the secretion of relating inflammatory cytokine, also went onto decrease of angiogenesis, and a decrease of degranulated mast cells was noted. In addition, the decrease of epithelial injury also caused the growth of cells to decrease in stratum basale and cytoclasis. In the vasculature, the leukocytes were also decreased and it could relate to decrease in CON. Conclusions : SC has effect on CON suppressing the dermal injury through recovering of lipid protection formation in stratum corneum.

  • In this study, we investigated the antioxidant activities and compared other physiological properties including anti-cancer and antimicrobial effects of several traditional Korean herb-combined remedies such as Gilgyung-tang (GGT), Daihwangmokdan-tang (DHMDT), Sagan-tang (SGT), Socheonryongtang (SCRT), Sihocheonggan-tang (SHCGT), Sipyukmiyuki-eum (SYMYKE) and Hwangheuk-san (HHS), which were recorded in “Dong-eui-bo-gam” for “Ongjeo”. Total phenolic contents of the herb medicines were in a rich order of GGT < SYMYKE < SCRT < SHCGT < DHMDT < SGT < HHS. Among them, HHS appeared highest in superoxide dismutase-like activity, ferric reducing antioxidant power, scavenging of 2,2’-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, and 2,2’-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate) cationic radical activity. Interestingly, there was a positive relationship between their total phenolic contents and their antioxidant activities. Although all of them showed anti-proliferative activities in human colon cancer HCT-116 cells, HHS was seven times higher than GGT. Antimicrobial activities against Escherichia coli and Helicobacter pylori were revealed only on SGT, SCRT, SYMYKE and HHS. Taken together, these findings reveal the potential use of traditional Korean herbal formulas as functional ingredients in antioxidant and physiological materials.
