  • By way of driving a 2-way on/off solenoid hydraulic valve with a pulse width modulation (PWM) signal, control of the pressure in a certain volume is frequently used in various applications. However, the pressure built-up according to the duty ratio and carrier frequency of the PWM signal is not so well understood. In order to clarify the characteristics of 2-way valve hydraulic pressure control systems, in this paper two formula fur the mean and ripple of the load pressure were derived through theoretical analysis. And the accuracy of the derived formula were verified by comparison with the experimental test result. Generally 2-way valve systems are constructed as a bleed-off circuit, while 3-way valves are used as a control element in a meter-in circuit pressure control system. In a bleed-off circuit, the system supply pressure from a hydraulic power pack does not remain constant, but changes according to their external load. In turn, the relief valve in the hydraulic power pack reacts accordingly showing complicated dynamic behavior, which makes an analytical study difficult. In order to resolve the problem, simple but accurate empirical dynamic models fer a bleed-off system were used in the course of formula derivation. As the result, selection criteria for two major control parameters of the driving signal is established and the basic strategy to suppress the unnecessary pressure fluctuation can be provided for a hydraulic pressure control system using a 2-way on/off solenoid valve.

  • Rapid and accurate phase synchronization is critical for the reliable control of grid-tied inverters. However, the commonly used software phase-locked loop methods do not always satisfy the need for high-speed and accurate phase synchronization under severe grid imbalance conditions. To address this problem, this study develops a novel open-loop phase locking scheme based on a synchronous reference frame. The proposed scheme is characterized by remarkable response speed, high accuracy, and easy implementation. It comprises three functional cascaded blocks: fast orthogonal signal generation block, fast fundamental-frequency positive sequence component construction block, and fast phase calculation block. The developed virtual orthogonal signal generation method in the first block, which is characterized by noise immunity and high accuracy, can effectively avoid approximation errors and noise amplification in a wide range of sampling frequencies. In the second block, which is the foundation for achieving fast phase synchronization within 3 ms, the fundamental-frequency positive sequence components of unsymmetrical grid voltages can be achieved with the developed orthogonal signal construction strategy and the symmetrical component method. The real-time grid phase can be consequently obtained in the third block, which is free from self-tuning closed-loop control and thus improves the dynamic performance of the proposed scheme. The proposed scheme is adaptive to severe unsymmetrical grid voltages with sudden changes in magnitude, phase, and/or frequency. Moreover, this scheme is able to eliminate phase errors induced by harmonics and random noise. The validity and utility of the proposed scheme are verified by the experimental results.

  • We propose a new technique of deinterleaving multiple radar pulse sequences by means of genetic algorithm for threat identification in electronic warfare(EW) system. The conventional approaches based on histogram or continuous wavelet transform are so deterministic that they are subject to failing in detection of individual signal characteristics under real EW signal environment that suffers frequent signal missing, noise, and counter-EW signal. The proposed algorithm utilizes the probabilistic optimization procedure of genetic algorithm. This method, a time-of-arrival(TOA) only strategy, constructs an initial chromosome set using the difference of TOA. To evaluate the fitness of each gene, the defined pulse phase is considered. Since it is rare to meet with a single radar at a moment in EW field of combat, multiple solutions are to be derived in the final stage. Therefore it is designed to terminate genetic process at the prematured generation followed by a chromosome grouping. Experimental results for simulated and real radar signals show the improved performance in estimating both the number of radar and the pulse repetition interval.

  • An adaptive cooperation system is considered with the cooperation decision strategy based on the differences between instantaneous signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) S-D and R-D channels. Specifically, if the quality of the direct link (S-D) is better than that of the link from the relay to the destination (R-D), the source will transmit to destination directly with all scheme's transmitted power. Otherwise, the source broadcasts the signal with a lower power in the first time slot. Then, in the second time slot, if the relay decodes its received signal correctly, it re-transmits the re-encoded signal to the destination else the source will transmit again with the remaining power. Firstly, the spectral efficiency is derived by calculating the probabilities of direct transmission and cooperation mode. Subsequently, the BER performance for the adaptive cooperation schemes is analyzed by considering the BER routine of each mode. Finally, the Monte-Carlo simulation results are presented to confirm the performance enhancement offered by the proposed schemes.

  • In this paper, we propose the cooperative transmission scheme (CTS) for system throughput maximization in OFDMA based enterprise femtocell networks. In our scheme, the user equipment (UE) can receive the desired signal from serving femtocell BS (fBS) as well as an adjacent fBS. Thus, UE achieves an improved signal to interference plus and noise ratio (SINR) by the synchronized two signals. The performances of this strategy consider not only the call-level quality of service (QoS) but also the packet-level QoS. We first measure the call blocking probability and utilization for the downlink resources for various offered load in femtocell. Based on that, the outage probability and effective throughput of the system are simulated. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme can reduce the outage probability for enterprise femtocell compared with conventional systems.

  • An arterial street control is performed for the purpose of the progression of a traffic flow using the arterial. However during the progression in the arterial, the change according to the time is one of the most representative problems occurring at a signal plan. This paper intends to efficiently operate the arterial progression by applying fuzzy logic, which is thought to be the most possible one in the inference as that of the human logic, to the traffic responsive control system. Fuzzy Logic controller is appliable to the daily human language (linguistic). can be dealt with the uncertain traffic data and is useful on planning the signal control to sensitively confront the randomly changing traffic condition. This study, based on the signal control part of the isolated intersection in "A Development of a Real-time, Traffic Adaptive Control Scheme Through VIDs"(Seong Ho. Kim. 1996). suggested the strategy for the progression control in the arterial and analyzed its effect by comparing the effect of the existing control method. In addition, the study compared each effect by using TRAF-NETSIM which is the traffic simulation software to analyze each control method.

  • Utilizing artificial noise (AN) is a good means to guarantee security against eavesdropping in a multi-inputmulti-output system, where the AN is designed to lie in the null space of the legitimate receiver's channel direction information (CDI). However, imperfect CDI will lead to noise leakage at the legitimate receiver and cause significant loss in the achievable secrecy rate. In this paper, we consider a delayed feedback system, and investigate the impact of delayed CDI on security by using a transmit beamforming and AN scheme. By exploiting the Gauss-Markov fading spectrum to model the feedback delay, we derive a closed-form expression of the upper bound on the secrecy rate loss, where $N_t$ = 2. For a moderate number of antennas where $N_t$ > 2, two special cases, based on the first-order statistics of the noise leakage and large number theory, are explored to approximate the respective upper bounds. In addition, to maintain a constant signal-to-interferenceplus-noise ratio degradation, we analyze the corresponding delay constraint. Furthermore, based on the obtained closed-form expression of the lower bound on the achievable secrecy rate, we investigate an optimal power allocation strategy between the information signal and the AN. The analytical and numerical results obtained based on first-order statistics can be regarded as a good approximation of the capacity that can be achieved at the legitimate receiver with a certain number of antennas, $N_t$. In addition, for a given delay, we show that optimal power allocation is not sensitive to the number of antennas in a high signal-to-noise ratio regime. The simulation results further indicate that the achievable secrecy rate with optimal power allocation can be improved significantly as compared to that with fixed power allocation. In addition, as the delay increases, the ratio of power allocated to the AN should be decreased to reduce the secrecy rate degradation.

  • This paper proposes a transmission algorithm that optimizes transmission power and sub-channel allocation to maximize energy efficiency considering characteristics of the channel impedance of power lines in power line communication systems. Since the received power at the receiver is influenced by the characteristics of the power line channel, it is necessary to consider channel characteristics when developing a transmission strategy in a power line communication systems. In addition, the energy efficiency should be optimized while meeting the practical constraints, such as the maximum transmission power limit of the transmitter and minimum quality of service for each user. In the computer simulation, we confirm that the energy efficiency of the proposed algorithm is improved compared to baseline schemes.

  • This paper introduces a new scheme to balance the DC bus voltages of a cascaded H-bridge converter which is used as a Distribution Static Synchronous Series Compensator (D-SSSC) in electrical distribution network. The aim of D-SSSC is to control the power flow between two feeders from different substations. As a result of different cell losses and capacitors tolerance the cells DC bus voltage can deviate from their reference values. In the proposed scheme, by individually modifying the reference PWM signal for each cell, an effective balancing procedure is derived. The new balancing procedure needs only the line current sign and is independent of the main control strategy, which controls the total DC bus voltages of cascaded H-bridge. The effect of modulation index variation on the capacitor voltage is analytically derived for the proposed strategy. The proposed method takes advantages of phase shift carrier based modulation and can be applied for a cascaded H-bridge with any number of cells. Also the system is immune to loss of one cell and the presented procedure can keep balancing between the remaining cells. Simulation studies and experimental results validate the effectiveness of the proposed method in the balancing of DC bus voltages.

  • The energy constraint is still a common issue for the practical application of wireless sensors, since they are usually powered by batteries which limit their lifetime. In this paper, a practical compound energy efficiency strategy is proposed and realized in the implementation of a real time wireless sensor platform. The platform is intended for wireless structural monitoring applications and consists of three parts, wireless sensing unit, base station and data acquisition and configuration software running in a computer within the Matlab environment. The high energy efficiency of the wireless sensor platform is achieved by a proposed adaptive radio transmission power control algorithm, and some straightforward methods, including adopting low power ICs and high efficient power management circuits, low duty cycle radio polling and switching off radio between two adjacent data packets' transmission. The adaptive transmission power control algorithm is based on the statistical average of the path loss estimations using a moving average filter. The algorithm is implemented in the wireless node and relies on the received signal strength feedback piggybacked in the ACK packet from the base station node to estimate the path loss. Therefore, it does not need any control packet overheads. Several experiments are carried out to investigate the link quality of radio channels, validate and evaluate the proposed adaptive transmission power control algorithm, including static and dynamic experiments.
