  • This paper proposes an advanced detection technique for cable fault by eliminating the sign of reference signal in STDR(sequence time-domain reflectometry) and SSTDR(spread-spectrum time-domain reflectometry). The proposed fault-detection technique can eliminate the reference signal more effectively than the conventional one since the sign detector can approximately recover the distorted reference signal by cable and connector, and consequently, can detect the reflected signal by fault more effectively than the conventional one. Especially, it is shown that the error rate of proposed technique can be significantly lower than the conventional one in the case of far fault simulation.

  • Research on calibration of array antenna has become a hot spot in the area of signal processing and it is necessary to obtain the phase mismatch of each antenna channel. This paper presents a new calibration method for an array antenna system. In order to calibrate the phase mismatch of each antenna channel, we used primary synchronization signal (PSS) which exists in LTE downlink frame. Primary synchronization signal (PSS) is based on a Zadoff-Chu sequence which has a good correlation characteristic. By using correlation calculation, we can extract primary synchronization signal (PSS). After extracting primary synchronization signal (PSS), we use it to calibrate and reduce the phase errors of each antenna channel. In order to verify the new array antenna calibration algorithm which is proposed in this paper, we have simulated the proposed algorithm by using MATLAB. The array antenna system consists of two antenna elements. The phase mismatch of first antenna and second antenna is calculated accurately by proposed algorithm in the experiment test. Theory analysis and MATLAB simulation results are shown to verify the calibration algorithm.

  • Cryptographic synchronization which synchronizes internal state of cryptographic algorithm and ciphertext stream between an encryptor and a decryptor affects the quality of secure communication. If there happens a synchronization loss between a transmitter and a receiver in a secure communication, the output of the receiver is unintelligible until resynchronization is made. Especially, in the secure communication on a wireless channel with high BER, synchronization performance can dominate its quality. In this paper, we proposed a novel and noise robust synchronization signal generation method as well as its detection algorithm. We generated a synchronization signal in the form of a masking structure based on the maximal length sequence, and developed a detection algorithm using a correlation property of the maximal length sequence. Experimental results have demonstrated that the proposed synchronization signal outperforms the conventional concatenated type synchronization signal in a noisy environment.

  • The secretory overexpression of Clostridium thermocellum endoglucanase A gene (celA) was examined in Saccharomyces cerevisiae using Kluyveromyces marxianus exoinulinase (INU1) signal sequence and GAL10 promoter. The two plasmids, pYEG-CT1 with its own signal sequence, and pYInu-CT1 with INU1 signal sequence were introduced to S. cerevisiae SEY2102 and S. cerevisiae 2805 host strains, respectively, and then each transformant was selected on the synthetic defined media lacking uracil. The expression level and secretion efficiency of endoglucanase A was increased by $18{\sim}22%$ and 11%, respectively, by INU1 signal sequence over celA signal sequence. By considering the high level of expression (361 unit/I), plasmid stability (89%), and secretion efficiency (70%), S. cerevisiae 2805 harboring plasmid pYInu-CT1 was selected as the opti-mal host vector system for the production of cellulose-degrading enzyme and recombinant yeast probiotic. The total expression and secretion efficiency of endoglucanase A was 418 unit/l and 73%, respectively, in the batch fermentation of S. cerevisiae 2805/pYlnu-CT1 on galactose medium. The mo-lecular weight of secreted endoglucanase A was found to be greater than 100 kDa, presumably due to the N-linked glycosylation.

  • This paper proposes an algorithm for estimating positions of array elements placed on a sea floor using acoustic signal in multipath ocean environment. The positions of array elements are estimated by using the travel times of m-sequence signal influenced by the multi-paths environment. The horizontal distance between source and receiver calculated based on the ray model. The proposed paper the algorithm is verified by both simulation data and field experiment in the Bast Sea.

  • A mutational alteration in the signal sequence of ribose-binding protein (RBP) of Escherichia coli, rbsB103, completely blocks the export of the protein to the periplasm. Intragenic suppressors for this mutation have been selected on minimal medium with ribose as a sole carbon source. Six suppressor mutations were characterized in detail and were found to have single amino acid wubstitution in the mature portion of RBP, which resulted in the mobility shift of the proteins on SDS polyacrylamide gel. Amino acid changes of these suppressors were localized in several peptides which are packed to form the N terminal domain of typical bilobate conformation of RBP. The involvement of SecB, a molecular chaperone, was investigated in the suppression of signal sequence mutation. Translocation efficency was found to be increased by the presence of SecB for all suppressors. It is likely that the folding characteristics of RBP altered by the suppressor mutations affect the affinity of interaction between SecB and RBP.

  • A gene coding $endo-{\beta}$,-1, 4 glucanase from Actinomyces sp. KNG40 and phytase from Hansenula polymorpha were cloned into Esherichia coli JM101 by using E. coli/Lactobacillus shuttle vector pNZ3004 and pNZ123. The plasmid p3PS(1-4) and p123(1-4) have slpA promoter and slpA signal sequence. So, I constructed expression vectors, p3PS(1-4)Endo, phy and p123(1-4)Endo, phy. These constructed vector was transformed in target host Lactobacillus gasseri and reutri. These transformed host expressed endoglucanase and phytase as extracellular fraction. In the enzyme activity of the same vector, host L, gasseri was higher activity than L. reuteri. This indicates that L. gasseri recongnize promoter and signal sequence very well.

  • Alpha-interferon was produced by using recombinant Escherichia coli strains, which carry cloned alpha-interferon gene in plasmid vectors, pIF-III-B and pIF-III-C. With the aid of signal sequence of E. coli lipoprotein, which is placed right in front of the upstream of the cloned alpha-interferon gene of the plasmids, about 50% of alpha-interferon produced was excreted or secreted. Meanwhile, there was no extracellular production of alpha-interferon from the recombinant strain carrying the plasmid Hif-2h that lacks the signal sequence of lipoprotein.

  • By designing the gradient pulses to be velocity compensated during one pulse cycle in SSFP (steady state free precession) imaging, the flowing spins can be maintained in the steady state. In the new SSFP sequence the flow signal which might be lost in conventional SSFP imaging sequences can be restored owing to the signal contribution from the preceding pulse cycles. By using the proposed SSFP sequence substantial restoration of the flow signal has been observed for the CSF (cerebro spinal fluid) of the human head.

  • A pixel profile in the conventional DANTE sequence is so poor that the excited area by DANTE sequence is a small portion of a pixel. This causes poor signal to noise ratio in DANTE image. In this paper, a frequency modulated(FM) DANTE imaging sequence is proposed to improve pixel profile in DANTE image. A DANTE pulse train is shaped by an FM function so that all the spins within a pixel are excited, thereby improving the signal to noise ratio. It also shows that the pixel profiles are dependent on the sweep in FM signal. Computer simulations and experimental result obtained using a 7.0 T NMR imaging system are presented.
