POD analysis of crosswind forces on a tall building with square and H-shaped cross sections

  • The shape of a tall building has significant impact on wind force generation and wind-induced dynamic response. To study the effect of recessed cavities, wind excitations on a wind-tunnel model of an H-section tall building were compared with those on a square-section building model. Characteristics of the fluctuating wind pressures on the side faces of the two tall buildings and their role in the generation of crosswind forces on the buildings were investigated with the space-time statistical tool of proper orthogonal decomposition (POD). This paper also compares the use of different pressure data sets for POD analysis in situations where pressures on two different surfaces are responsible for the generation of a wind force. The first POD mode is found to dominate the generation of crosswind excitation on the buildings.

  • When two cars impact each other, it is usually known smaller vehicle's passenger likely to be more seriously injured than bigger one's. Generally it is known that SUVs and Light Truck Vehicles (LTVs) are bigger and heavier than passenger vehicles and their drive height such as bumper rail and side member, and front end stiffness are higher than those of passenger vehicles. Because of these characteristics the occupants of passenger vehicle struck by SUVs or LTVs are more likely to experience severe injury or fatal injury. To evaluate SUV and LTV's aggressivity to passenger vehicle, SUV to passenger vehicle and LTV to passenger vehicle head-on crash test have been carried out. And finally the way how to reduce incompatibility between SUV and LTV and passenger vehicles is suggested.

  • Recently, proportion of the induction motor load is gradually increased. When a contingency in the power systems, it has been discovered phenomenon that the voltage is delayed recover caused mechanical characteristics of the induction motor load. It can be a serious impact on the voltage stability of the power system considering induction motor load. The scheme to mitigate this phenomenon tripping off the motors to prevent voltage drop and delayed voltage recovery on the load demand side. Fault induced delayed voltage recovery phenomenon is caused by stalling of small induction motor load in transmission level contingencies. In this paper, fault induced delayed voltage recovery phenomenon mitigation method implementation under voltage load shedding on the korean power system considering induction motor load.

  • The Korean traffic systems for transportation vulnerable are still under development and their social life are limited even if the traffic environment systems are developed consistently. To secure his/her mobility right, it has been required to set up the particular system for the traffic welfare, for example the express and intercity bus operations for wheelchair users. The express and intercity bus development for wheelchair users based on the original bus model has been performed. This study has investigated the safety tolerance for the bus stiffness, rollover and side impact characteristics to ensure occupant safety using the finite element models. The wheelchair bus model showed the improved crashworthiness according to the partially reinforced structure and better safety tolerance for the wheelchair users.

  • This study aimed to develop an optimal sizing system and a draping pattern for hip protector based on an analysis of anthropometric characteristics of Korean older women. A hip protector is a specialized form of pants or underwear containing pads along the outside of each hip. The 3D body scan data of Korean older women were analyzed to identify their anthropometric characteristics and a four-size system with 93% of population accommodation was developed by clustering analysis based on key dimensions derived from factor analysis. The sizing system consists of small/short, large/short, small/tall, and large/tall. A 3D physical model and hip pads were fabricated; then, a hip protector was draped on the 3D model and hip pads. The sizing system of hip protector was analyzed in terms of size and shape and a draping pattern was compared on back center, back side, front side, front center and pad. Lastly, the pattern deformation and clothing pressure were analyzed using the virtual clothing system CLO. Virtual system have disadvantage of not to suggest the objective value. In the future research the wearing comfort and impact absorption of the hip protector needs to be tested and then a hip protector design will be finalized by considering the hip protector's size, material, comfort testing results, aesthetic appeal, protection effectiveness, and practical utility of everyday use.

  • Korea is the geographic location during the summer, the temperature rising to $35^{\circ}C$ and winter temperature is $-15^{\circ}C$ to reduce the air temperature changes, such as relatively large compared to other countries. This increase or decrease of the harmful exhaust gas discharged from automobile substantially inconvenience a significant impact on the active side of the car engine temperature and exhaust gas reducing device receives a large impact on the atmospheric temperature is regulation to be different. However, domestic vehicle emissions test temperature of $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ is it does not reflect this situation the actual test temperature to accurately measure the exhaust gas volume of the vehicle is difficult. In this study, domestic automobile exhaust gas test conditions of a test temperature $20{\sim}30^{\circ}C$ various temperatures, including (35, 25, 0, -7, -15, $-25^{\circ}C$) under the two vehicles (2.0L MPI, 2.4 L GDI) as was discussed with respect to the exhaust gas characteristics of the vehicle according to the ambient temperature gas. As a result, domestic emissions test temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ than average conditions were temperature decreases greenhouse gas emissions and increase overall increased by up to 15 times higher.   • The purpose of this study is to distinguish the causes of broken glass from doors or windows when it is found being originally kept among the remains on the floor in fire site - whether it was broken due to heating or by outer power through test and the properties of the broken plane including the pattern on the plane. Addition to it, the study tries to find characteristics for judging the point and direction of breakdown through the analysis of glass broken by outer power. With two causes assumed - a. breakdown due to heating and b. breakdown due to outer power - 3 pieces of glass plates $(30cm{\times}30cm{\times}5mm)$ for each case were tested, getting the results as following: 1. For the glass broken due to the change of temperature The broken plane is of slow curve and smooth without any pattern. 2. For the broken due to outer power With the impact point as the center, the shows breakdown of radial type and the side shows breakdown of near-perpendicular type. The far the broken piece is from the impact point, the bigger the size is. The broken piece at the impact point is of long triangle type and the two long planes of the triangle shows semi-arc with the center of breakdown point and the other plane shows opposite pattern 3.   • It is characteristic that houses designed by Adolf Loos show commonly a contradictory aspect between the exterior and interior. The exteriors of the houses are simple and on the other hand the interiors are affluent to the greatest degree. At that time, a stylized gorgeous decoration of the inner space had been prevailed in general among the historicism and Vienna Secession people, and such an inner spatial conception as by Loos must have brought a turning point for the development of a new inner spatial conception which can by itself be called revolutionary. This study is gong to clarify the fact that Loos has been in full consideration of the emotional side basically for the human being in the conception of inner space, by complementing the respect that his conception of the inner spatial composition, concentrating purity, comfort and classicalism on the furniture. Despite the independency of the Loos furniture is near copying, different from existing creative conception, it can be meaningful in respect that it creates out a rather accustomed and still a new space thought adding a little transformation to the existing classical furniture. So this study is going to re-establish the characteristics of the Loos furniture which work as the greatest impact in the composition of affluent inner space, the prototypical characteristics of that furniture, and the basical thinking system of Loos which can be found out in a little transformatiov.

SNS 소외감과 애착이 능동적 사용에 미치는 영향: 페이스북 사용자를 중심으로 (Exploring the Impact of SNS Alienation and Attachment on Proactive Use of Facebook)

  • The social network services (SNS) like Facebook, have gained an enormous amount of popularity. However, side-effects of Facebook usage are occasionally reported such as sense of alienation and cyber-bullying. Among these potential factors threatening to the success of SNS, this research focused on alienation and intends to investigate possible factors that affect SNS alienation and how it affects on SNS attachment and proactive use of SNS. Through extensive literature reviews regarding online and offline alienation, SNS characteristics, and SNS usage, we generated the research model and hypotheses. We surveyed 142 Facebook users and empirically proved that among SNS characteristics, complexity increases SNS alienation, and interactivity and social presence positively affect SNS attachment. Offline alienation, one of the personal attributes, increases both SNS alienation and SNS attachment at the same time while the number of SNS friends have no significant effects. In addition, SNS alienation decreases proactive use of Facebook while SNS attachment increases it. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed based on research findings, and we also suggest future research directions to minimize negative consequences due to SNS users' sense of alienation.

한식의 기호학적 특성에 관한 연구 (Study on the Semiotic Characteristics for Korean Food)

  • This study sought to identify unique semiotic codes of Korean cuisine, including table settings, service styles, service ware selection, cooking techniques, and the logic behind menu composition. This research also aimed to verify that yangnyomjang reflects the code of Korean food culture. One of key findings from this study was that hidden codes of Korean food were found in their daily set-up for bapsang (dining table), which was found to decodify polysemic characteristics with an emphasis on harmony. These semiotic codes were influenced by the yin and yang philosophy and impact dining activities in our daily lives. Korean bapsang, composed of bap (rice), guk (soup) and banchan (side dishes), helps every individual diner share the semiotic codes of Korean cuisine within the context of paradigm and syntagm. Yangnyomjang, a major component of the Korean menu, also represents a unique code of Korean cuisine in its structure, main ingredients, production, and usage. This study also mathematically verified that a synchronic table setting of Korean cuisine provides diners with more opportunities for potential flavor combinations, compared to the Western service setting.
