IC leadframe needs precision shape for good efficiency. Friction conditions also have a significant impact on blanking deformation. Therefore, studying the friction produced by the tribology between die and materials becomes necessary. In this study, in order to measure mechanical properties and frictions for leadframe materials such as Ni alloys and coppers, tensile test and straight pulling friction test are executed. In particular, the effect of clearance on the blanking characteristics depending on friction coefficient is examined by finite element simulation. From the finite element simulation, the metal flow, side pressure of punch and crack initiation are evaluated according to the leadframe materials.

The demands for vehicle safety systems such as ABS and ESC have been increased. Accurate vehicle state estimation is required to realized the abovementioned systems and tire-friction coefficient is crucial information. Estimation of lateral tire-road friction coefficient using pneumatic trail information is mainly dealt in this paper. Pneumatic trail shows unique characteristics according to the wheel side slip angle and these property is highly sensitive to vehicle lateral motion. The proposed algorithm minimizes the use of conventional tire models such as magic formula, brushed tire model and Dugoff tire model. The pure side slip maneuver, which means no longitudinal dynamics, is assumed to achieve the ultimate goal of this paper. A simulation verification using Carsim and Simulink is performed and the results show the feasibility of the proposed algorithms.
A study off riction welding of high speed steel(SKH 51) bar for blade side to carbon steel(STC 3)bar for shank side was carried out experimentally through tensile test, hardness test, microstructure, and acoustic emission (AE) test. So, this paper deals with optimizing the welding conditions and the real-time quality (strength) evaluation of friction weleded joints by acoustic emission technique. The results obtained are summarized as follows: (1) For friction welded joints of SKH 51to STC 3 steel bars, the total upset (U) increases linearly with an increase of heating time (t sub(1)). (2) The determined optimum welding conditions are heating time (t sub(1)) 7-9 sec, upsetting time (t sub(2)) 5 sec, heating pressure(P sub(1)) 12 kg sub(f)mm supper(2), upsetting pressure (P sub(2)) 15 kg sub(f) mm supper(2) and rotating speed (n) 2, 000 rpm, resulting in a computed relationship between the tensile strength of the joint .sigma. (kg sub(f) mm supper(2)) and the heating time t sub(1) (sec) as the following. sigma.=2.39t sub(1)
The output of Stirling engine is influenced by the regenerator effectiveness. The regenerator effectiveness is influenced by heat transfer and flow friction loss of the regenerator matrix. In this paper, in order to provide a basic data for the design of regenerator matrix, characteristics of heat transfer and flow friction loss were investigated by a packed method of matrix in the oscillating flow as the same condition of operation in a Stirling engine. As matrices, several kinds of combined wire screen meshes were used. The results are summarized as follows; The packed meshes with high mesh no. in the side of heater part of regenerator showed effective than the packed meshes with low mesh no. in the side of cooler part of regenerator. The temperature difference and pressure drop of the regenerator were not made by the specific surface area of wire screen meshes but by the minimum free-flow area to the total frontal area. Among the No. 150 single screen meshes, 200-60 combined meshes, the 200-150-100 combined meshes showed the highest in effectiveness.

In this study, the mechanical properties of friction stir welded A6061-T6 were evaluated. This material is used as a battery pack case material for electric vehicles. The Vickers hardness, tensile strength, and yield stress of the friction stir welding (FSW) specimen were all smaller than those of the base metal specimen. As the heat input increased, the nugget zone widened, and there were differences in hardness according to the base metal zone, heat affected zone, thermal-mechanical affected zone, and nugget zone. Mechanical properties were not proportional to heat input, and the thermal-mechanical affected zone on the advancing side was the smallest in all conditions. This is because the material flow speed increased on the advancing side, where the welding direction and the tool rotation direction were the same, forming a distinct boundary with mechanical deformation.
The parking brake is one of the essential units embedded in track driving motor for forward and backward motion of an excavator. It is composed of multi-friction discs. When the hydraulic motor stops, the multi-friction discs closely stick to the facing discs by acting of multi-spring forces. So, the friction forces generate the braking force by compressing the cylinder barrel of hydraulic motor. In this study, we combined the multi-friction discs to two kinds of spring which have different spring force, and the maximum torque measured at the rotational starting point of hydraulic motor through gradually increasing the rotational torque of load side hydraulic motor by use of 1 and 2 sheets of friction plates. And, under this experimental condition, the maximum coefficient of static friction and the characteristics of paper friction sheet were analyzed. The obtained experimental results will be applied to the design of parking brake system for producing large size excavator in the 85-ton weight class.

The mechanical and metallurgical properties of friction welded joints type 5052 Al alloy/A36 steel have been studied in this paper. The joint strength increased with increasing upset pressure and friction time till it reached the critical value. The joint strength was fixed at low strength compare to that of base metal in the case of increasing friction time. Microstructure of 5052 Al alloy was greatly deformed near the weld interface. The very fine and equaxied grain structure was observed at the near interface. The elongated grain was formed outside dynamic recrystallizatoin region at the peripheral part, while the A36 steel' side was not deformed. The hardness of the near interface was slightly softer than that of 5052 Al alloy base metal. The maximum softening width was about 8mm from the interface. In the present work, the friction welding condition, t$_1$=0.5sec, P$_2$=137.5MPa, showed a maximum joint strength (202MPa) when friction pressure, upset time and rotation speed were fixed at 75MPa, 5sec, 2000rev/min and these were the optimum friction welding condition of 5052Al/A36 steel joints.

The principle of self clamping friction clutch is presented in this paper and the transmitted torque capacity is also calculated. In order to enlarge the friction force, a part of rotating force of driving side is converted to normal force of friction materials by clamping arm. The increased normal force of friction materials assures the large friction force and the transmitted torque capacity of clutch becomes large. The self clamping friction clutch is adopted in the tube type air pressure clutch and the condition of stability is investigated. It is proven that the inclined angle of clamping arm and the friction factor of friction materials are the essential elements in stability and torque capacity of self clamping friction clutch. The transmitted torque capacity of self clamping friction clutch is compared with air pressure clutch. The normal force of friction lining is magnified by 1/(1-k) and the transmitted torque capacity is also magnified with same proportion comparing with air pressure clutch. The larger the friction factor of friction lining, the larger the magnification factor. The longer the clamping arm, the smaller the magnification factor. It must be also noted that the value of k=${\mu}Y/X$ is the criterion of stability. If the value of k=${\mu}Y/X$ is greater than or equal to 1, the self clamping friction clutch is unstable and it can not be used as clutch.

This study deals with the mechanical properties of STS304-Al351 friction welding zone. Main results are as follows ; under the condition of upset pressure 75MPa, the tensile strength of STS304-al6351 friction weld interface was higher than that of Al6351 base metal, and the highest tensile strength(290MPa) was obtained at upset pressure 125MPa. The hardness profile across the weld interface shows that the hardness of both STS304 and Al6351 is higher around the weld interface, and sharply increased hardness on the STS304 side is related with the plastic deformation of micro volume. As the result of analyzing the tensile fracture, it showed perfect soft fracture.

This study was undertaken to investigate tribology characteristics of the alumina ceramics($Al_2O_3$) for the vauiation of ambient condition such as air and distilled water. The results obtained were as follows. As the sliding speed increases, the friction coefficient in the air decreased due to the reduction of sheafing stress caused by the heat accumulation of contact interface. And the friction coefficient in the distilled water decreased due to an activation of the tribochemical reaction. As the contact load increases, the friction coefficient is small in the air due to temperature rise of the contact interface. However, at the low speed side in the distilled water, the friction coefficient holds a large value due to decrease of the tribochemical reaction. The friction surface of ceramics can be protected in the air by the influence of the oxides tansfered from STB2 and also in the distilled water by the influence of the corrosive productive hydroxides.
