  • The researcher intended to investigate the rate of absenteeism and other related statistics among the workers in a steel and iron industry with the criteria and the recommendation of the International Association on Occupational Health. With the well designed questionaire and interview, 1,882 workers were surveyed from July the 24th to the 28th, 1978. The results were as follows; The workers who experienced absence were 16.8% in July. The rate of frequency (spells) was 3.24, the duration was 4.65, the frequency (persons) was 345.20, and the lost time was 1.27. 41.0% among the absentee experienced sickness absences and the rates of sickness absence were as follow; the frequency (spells) nab 1.34, the duration was 2.29, the frequency (persons) was 101.06 and the lost time was 0.63, respectively. The main causes of sickness absence were general symptoms, such as fatigue (50.8%) and gastro-intestinal symptoms (13.8%). The frequency of sickness was highly correlated to the frequency of drinking, the amount of smoking, the physical work-load and the amount of drinking, which was analysed by the stepwize multiple regrssion analysis. The multiple R due to the above mentioned four variables was 0.320 and the R square was 10.3%.

  • Objectives : Needle sickness is one of the adverse events of acupuncture, although substantial adverse effects during a routine acupuncture treatment seem to be highly unusual. In this work, we propose that an acupuncture-related vasovagal response resembles needle sickness during acupuncture therapy. Methods : In this article, we discussed the general characteristics of vasovagal syncope and went into more detail on vasovagal syncope in people who have a fear of blood injection and injury. We also offer a recommendation for the prevention and management of vasovagal syncope brought on by acupuncture. Results : The vasovagal reaction related to acupuncture is closely associated with needle sickness. The prevention can be done using PEACHES (position, experience, anxiety, constitution, hydration, environment, symptom recognition) principles. The management should be conducted using the RIPCORD (recognize, initiate, position, communicate, order treatments, reassess, document) techniques. Conclusions : It is important to comprehend the characteristics of needle sickness as a vasovagal reaction related to acupuncture. According to the recommendation, practitioners should effectively prevent and manage needle sickness.

  • A global model of simulator sickness is outlined that suggests the sequence of events leading to the development of simulator aftereffects. The model attempts to link coupling effects of illusory self-motion(vection) and compensatory head sway to the origin of simulator sickness. A pilot study was conducted in support of a rescarch program that will investigate the proposed model. Seven males and four females participated in a 5-min scssion in a fixed-base automobile simulator. Due to restricted sample size, descriptive statistics are presented for measures of simulator sickness, lateral sway velocity (Y-velocity), driving performance, control inpuls, and vection ratings. Although potential trends are discussed, no statistical conclusions can be drawn. Measurement issures for te next phase of reasearch mclude increasing the sensitivity of vection ratings, and examination of the timecourse got development of compensatory sway.

  • Several studies indicated that an independent visual background (IVB) reduced simulator sickness (SS) and balance disturbance associated with exposure to virtual environments (VEs) and motion simulators. A recent study showed that an IVB comprised of an earth-fixed grid was less effective in a complex driving simulator than in a simple VE. Subjects' post-experiment reports indicated that the VE motion "induced" motion of the earth-fixed grid m. This led to the suggestion that an IVB comprised of clouds would be less subject to induced motion and therefore would alleviate nausea more effectively than a grid IVB. Clouds are "natural" and are usually perceived as relatively stable, whereas a grid has no inherent stability. 12 subjects were exposed to complex motion through a simulated environment in a driving simulator under 3 IVB conditions: grid, less clouds, many clouds. They reported less nausea when the many-cloud IVB was used relative to the grid IVB condition. grid IVB condition.

  • Both access to healthcare services and income security in case of personal illness are being needed to achieve universal health coverage, which is enshrined in the human rights to health and social security and international standards on social protection. Income security acts on both the social determinants and the adverse consequences of ill health and thus would break the vicious disease-poverty cycle. The government is supposed to implement a demonstration project of sickness benefit in 2022 and to publicize its more specific blueprint for all workers. This study is to suggest basic principles and a framework to design a new sickness benefit for universal health coverage, which is based on reviews on previous studies, related issues, and institutional conditions. This is to provide a theoretical basis to promote further discussion and to support its decision-making.

  • In 2019, the Seoul metropolitan government established its own 'Seoul-type paid sick leave project'. Although the central government had to introduce such a system, which is also called sickness benefits, it was not implemented. In order to understand the process by which the Seoul government has implemented such a policy, this study used Kingdon's multiple streams framework. As a result, in the problem stream, it was found that the economic burden of sickness has been considered only in terms of medical expenses in the past of Korea. Then Songpa's three women and Middle East respiratory syndrome incidents raised awareness of the necessity of the sickness benefit system in 2014 and 2015. In the political stream, several social affairs such as national health insurance huge surpluses and the 2017 presidential election opened policy window. At that time, Seoul Mayor actively promoted sickness benefits as a policy entrepreneur. In the policy stream, the sickness benefit system has gained new attention through political events. To summary, these three streams flowed separately and then they assembled around huge political affairs. As a result, it was confirmed that Kingdon's model is the most effective theory than any other models in analyzing the health care policy decision process in Korea.

  • The phenomenon of sail sickness in the continuous cropping of ginseng is n serious problem for the cultivation practices and is an unelucidated subject scientifically. Present study is concerned mainly with ecochemical search on the cause of soil sickness in the continuous cropping of ginseng and the obtained results are summarized as follows: The humic substances isolated from both cultivated and uneulvidated soils with ginseng were compared with respect to its IR spectra but any difference which may be causative of sail sickness between them was not detected. In contrast, same saponin-like substances extracted from the ginseng cultivate soil in root tone were detected but not from the uncultivated soil. Presumably. the saponin like substances in the soils are originate) from the ginseng radices and are accumulaetd in root zone year by year, while the interrelation between the root exudate of ginseng and soil sickness is still obscure. According to a survey on the distributive Pattern of microflora in rhizosphere of ginseng radices the number of fungi is relatively diminished with the cul tivation years, while the number of actinomycetes is increased. It is supposed that the soil sickness in the continuous cropping of ginseng has any correlation between the activities of microflora in rhizosphere and the reef exudates.

  • This paper investigates the effects of scene movements on cybersickness to develop the guidelines of scene movements in virtual environments. The types of scene movements were made for both scene navigations(through the axes of X: lateral, Y: fore & after, and Z: vertical) and scene rotations(by pitch, roll and yaw). And there were each three levels of speed; 2.7, 4.5 and 6.3 /s(for navigation), and 10, 20 and 30 /s(for rotation) were conducted. Twelve participants were exposed to each scene for 15 minutes, and three tests were performed to measure the degree of sickness. Before and after subjects were exposed to virtual environments, they were requested to describe their sickness symptoms by means of answering the Simulator Sickness Questionnaire(SSQ). And the postural stability tests, in which the Center of Pressure(COP) of subjects were traced and recorded by a 'force platform', were conducted. During the exposure on virtual environments, the subjects were requested to rate the degree of nausea. For both navigation and rotation, the effects of speeds and axes were significant in the SSQ scores and the nausea ratings, while it was not in the COP. The correlation between the SSQ scores and the COP data was not found. Therefore, it was inappropriate to use COP as a measure of cybersickness. The degree of sickness increased, except for the case of the yaw, as the speed increased. The sickness was most severe in the scene navigation through the axis X and in the scene rotation by the yaw.
