SiCf/SiC 복합재의 마모 및 마찰에 의해 발생된 탄성파 특성 (Characteristics of Elastic Wave Generated by Wear and Friction of SiCf/SiC Composites)

  • $SiC_f$/SiC 복합재를 제작하여, $SiC_f$/SiC 복합재의 섬유배향 방향에 따르는 마모 특성을 평가하고, 마모시에 발생하는 탄성파를 검출하고 분석하였다. $SiC_f$/SiC 복합재는 섬유의 종 횡방향에 의한 마찰계수와 마모손실은 비슷하였으나, 섬유의 수직방향은 가장 작은 값을 나타내었다. 이것은 섬유의 취성 특성 때문이라 판단되며, 마모손실과 마찰계수는 정비례의 관계를 나타내었다. SiC 단상재의 탁월주파수는 58.6 kHz를 나타내고, $SiC_f$/SiC 복합재의 탁월주파수는 117.2와 136.7 kHz였다.

나노탄소섬유와 나노카바이드섬유를 이용한 복합재의 제조와 활용에 관한 연구 (Preparation and Application of Fiber Composites made of Carbon Nanofibers and Carbide Nanofibers)

  • Fabrication of carbon fiber reinforced composites was carried out by hand lay-up method. Carbon nanofibers and SiC nanofibers were used as filler in the composites fabrication. Carbon nanofibers, one of the new carbon materials, have 5∼500 nm in diameter and 5-10 nm in length. SiC nanofibers were modified by silicon monoxide vapor with carbon nanofibers. The composites were carbonized at 1000$^{\circ}C$ in a nitrogen atmosphere, and then densified by molten pitches impregnated in vacuum. Multiple cycles of liquid pitch impregnation and carbonization were carried out to obtain a desired density. The composites were characterized by density, microstructure. The inter-laminar shear strength (ILSS) test was performed for mechanical properties. For the new application, the microwave reflective proeprty of composites was investigated. Dielectric constant and permeability spectrum were measured in 12∼18 GHz frequency ranges. On the basis of the wave propagation theory in a lossy media, the reflection loss from the composite inter-layer was predict as a function of frequency.

$Al_2O_{3f}/SiC_p$ 금속복합재료의 섬유방향과 혼합비가 윤활마모특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Fiber Orientations and Hybrid Ratios on Lubricant Tribological Characteristics of $Al_2O_{3f}/SiC_p$ Reinforced MMCs)

  • 가압주조법으로 제조한 $Al_2O_3$ 섬유와 SiC 입자 혼합 보강 금속복합재료(MMCs)의 상온과 고온에서 윤활마모특성을 조사하였다. 마모시험은 거리와 온도의 변화에 따라 속도를 고정시켜 25Kgf의 하중하에서 수행하였으며 MMCs의 시험편은 가압의 수평(PR)방향과 수직(N)방향에서 채취하였다. 혼합비의 영향을 관찰한 결과 상온에서는 20%섬유만 보강한 PR방향 MMCs의 마모거동은 N방향 보다 우수한 결과를 보였으나, 혼합보강 MMCs는 반대로 나타내었다. 고온($100^{\circ}C$)에는 모든 MMCs에서 PR방향의 마모거동이 N 방향보다 우수한 결과를 보인 것은 보강재와 마찰면간 윤활필름이 강호작용에 기인한 것으로 밝혀졌다. $150^{\circ}C$에서는 혼합 MMCs의 마모거동은 온도영향으로 PR이 N 보다 우수한 결과를 보였다.

Ceramic 섬유의 강도 평가에 대한 Weibll 이론의 적용 (Application of Weifull강s Theory to Evaluation of Strength for Ceramic Fibers)

  • In this work, strength of ceramic fibers and monofilament composites were evaluated on the basis of Weibull's theory. The fibers used were β-SiC and γ-Al2O3 monofilament composites was fabricated by coating Al on the fiber surface by the use of vacuum evaporation method. Average tensile strength of ceramic fibers showed the tendency to linearly decrease with increasing gauge length. Also, Weibull moduli of ceramic fibers were decreased with increasing gauge length, Weibull modulus of β-SiC was 3.5 for 6-50mm, 2.8 for 100-200mm. Weibull modulus of γ-Al2O3 was 6.5 for 20-50mm, 6 for 100mm. Fibers in monofilament retained their original as-produced strength to exposure temperature of 400℃. However, tensile strength of both monofilament composites approved to remarkably degrade due to interfacial reaction-induced flaws on the fiber surface after thermal exposure of 600℃. In this case, Weibull modulus of monofilament composites was 2.7 for β-SiC and 5.2 for γ-Al2O3 respectively.

SiC 휘스커 강화 Al2O3 복합재료의 고인화 (Toughening of SiC Whisker Reinforced Al2O3 Composite)

  • In this paper, the fracture toughness and mechanisms of failure in a random SiC-whisker/$Al_{2}O_3$ ceramic composite were investigated using in situ observations during mode I(opening) loading. $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite was obtained by hot press sintering of $Al_{2}O_3$ powder and SiC whisker as the matrix and reinforcement, respectively. The whisker and powder were mixed using a turbo mill. The composite was produced at SiC whisker volume fraction of $0.3\%$. Compared with monolithic $Al_{2}O_3$, fracture toughness enhancement was observed in $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite. This improved fracture toughness was attributed to SiC whisker bridging and crack deflection. $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite exhibited typically brittle fracture behavior, but a fracture process zone was observed in this composite. This means that the load versus load-line displacement curve of $SiC_{w}/Al_{2}O_3$ composite from a fracture test may involve a small non-linear region near the peak load.

온도 상승에 따른 혼합금속복합재료의 건식 마찰특성 평가 (Evaluation of Dry Tribological Characteristics of Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites with Temperature Rising)

  • 가압주조법으로 제조된 알루미나 섬유와 SiC 입자 혼합금속복합재료의 마찰특성을 조사하였다. 핀 형태의 마모 시험편은 전체 부피비 20%에 섬유와 입자의 서로 다른 비를 갖고 있다. 혼합금속복합재료의 윤활마모시험은 핀과 디스크 타입의 마모시험기를 사용하여 수행되었는데, 상온과 고온 $100^{\circ}C$$150^{\circ}C$.에서의 건식마찰특성을 각각 수행하였다. 마모면의 미시분석은 주사전자현미경(SEM)으로 조사하여 마찰특성과 마모거동을 분석하였다. 시험 결과 마모저항은 상온에서는 섬유와 같은 방향인 (PR) 방향에서는 SiC입자의 증가에 따라 향상되었다. 고온에서는 섬유와 수직한 방향(N)의 마모특성은 PR방향의 섬유가 마모면으로 전체적으로 쉽게 뽑히기 때문에 PR방향의 금속보합재료의 마모특성보다 우수하였다. 한편 마찰계수는 온도증가에 따라 감소하였다.

탄화규소 불투명화재와 세라믹섬유가 Fumed 실리카 단열재의 열전도도에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Ceramic Fibers and SiC Opacifiers on Thermal Conductivities of Fumed Silica-Based Thermal Insulation Media)

  • The thermal conductivities of nano-sized fumed silica-based insulation media were investigated by varying a mean particle size of the silicon carbide opacifiers and ceramic fiber content. Opacifying effect of ceramic fiber and silicon carbide powders was discussed in terms of their content and the mean particle size of them. As the fiber contents increased from 10 wt% to 30 wt% in a material, its thermal conductivity at temperatures of about $620^{\circ}C$ decreased from 0.171 $Wm^{-1}K^{-1}$ to 0.121 $Wm^{-1}K^{-1}$. Meanwhile, the thermal conductivity at temperatures of about $625^{\circ}C$ decreased from 0.128 $Wm^{-1}K^{-1}$ to 0.092 $Wm^{-l}K^{-1}$ as the mean SiC particle size decreased from $31{\mu}m$ to $10{\mu}m$.

Thermal Fatigue Behavior of 3D-Woven SiC/SiC Composite with Porous Matrix for Transpiration Cooling Passages

  • The effect of porous matrix on thermal fatigue behavior of 3D-orthogonally woven SiC/SiC composite was evaluated in comparison with that having relatively dense matrix. The porous matrix yields open air passages through its thickness which can be utilized for transpiration cooling. On the other hand, the latter matrix is so dense that the air passages are sealed. A quantity of the matrix was varied by changing the number of repetition cycles of the polymer impregnation pyrolysis (PIP). Strength degradation of composites under thermal cycling conditions was evaluated by the $1200^{\circ}C$/RT thermal cycles with a combination of burner heating and air cooling for 200 cycles. It was found that the SiC/SiC composite with the porous matrix revealed little degradation in strength during the thermal cycles, while the other sample showed a 25% decrease in strength. Finally it was demonstrated that the porous structure in 3D-SiC/SiC composite improved the thermal fatigue durability.

LPS-SiC 세라믹스 제조특성에 미치는 소결온도의 영향 (Effects of Sintering Temperature on Fabrication Properties of LPS-SiC Ceramics)

  • SiC materials have been extensively studied for high temperature components in advanced energy system and advanced gas turbine. However, the brittle characteristics of SiC such as low fracture toughness and low strain-to fracture still impose a severe limitation on practical applications of SiC materials. For these reasons, $SiC_f/SiC$ composites can be considered as a promising for various structural materials, because of their good fracture toughness compared with monolithic SiC ceramics. But, high temperature and pressure lead to the degradation of the reinforcing fiber during the hot pressing. Therefore, reduction of sintering temperature and pressure is key requirements for the fabrication of $SiC_f/SiC$ composites by hot pressing method. In the present work, Monolithic LPS-SiC was fabricated by hot pressing method in Ar atmosphere at 1760 $^{\circ}C$, 1780 $^{\circ}C$, 1800 $^{\circ}C$ and 1820 $^{\circ}C$ under 20 MPa using $Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3$ system as sintering additives in order to low sintering temperature. The starting powder was high purity ${\beta}-SiC$ nano-powder with an average particle size of 30 nm. Monolithic LPS-SiC was evaluated in terms of sintering density, micro-structure, flexural strength, elastic modulus and so on. Sintered density, flexural strength and elastic modulus of fabricated LPS-SiC increased with increasing the sintering temperature. In the micro-structure of this specimen, it was found that grain of sintered body was grown from 30 nm to 200 nm.

세라믹 섬유 복합체의 제조 및 물성 향상 (Fabrication of ceramic fibre composite and improvement of its property)

  • 본 연구에서는 탄소/탄소 복합체의 내산화성을 증진시키기 위하여 CVD법에 의한 SiC 코팅과 PCS 함침법을 응용하여 실험을 행하였다. 전자현미경으로 시편의 미세구조를 관찰 한 결과 CVD법에 의해서는 표면에 SiC가 고르게 증착되었으며, 함침법에 의해서는 각 탄소 섬유의 표면에 PCS가 wetting된 후 SiC로의 전이가 잘 일어났음을 확인하였고, 이로 인하여 각 섬유들의 결합력을 증대시키고 기계적물성에 증진을 가져왔음을 확인하였다. PCS 함침된 탄소/탄소 복합체 시편은 함침되지 않은 시편에 비해 밀도는 25 %, 곡강도 값은 3.5배, 내산화성은 2.8배가 증가하는 현격한 기계적 물성이 증가함을 보였다. 이러한 증가는 CVD법에 의해 코팅된 탄소/탄소 복합체 사편보다도 우수한 기계적 성질을 나타내였다.
