나노 SiC 입자의 형상에 따른 탄소섬유 강화 에폭시 복합재료의 기계적 및 계면 물성 변화 관찰 (Improvement of Mechanical and Interfacial Properties of Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Composites by Adding Nano SiC Fillers)

  • SiC 나노입자를 이용하여 에폭시 복합재료를 제조할 수 있다. SiC 형상에 따른 영향으로 복합재료의 계면 물성이 변화된다. SiC의 형상에 따른 계면 상태의 변화를 관찰하기 위해 베타 형태, 위스커 형태의 SiC 나노입자를 사용하였다. 나노입자에 대한 분산도를 평가하기 위해 커패시턴스를 이용한 분산도 평가방법을 활용하였다. FE-SEM을 이용하여 SiC 나노입자의 활용에 따른 나노복합재료의 파단면을 관찰하여, 그 강화 효과를 비교 분석하였다. 탄소섬유와 SiC 나노입자가 함유된 에폭시를 이용한 복합재료에 계면 물성을 비교하기 위해 층간전단강도 평가법과 계면전단강도 평가법을 이용하였다. 복합재료의 계면 물성을 강화하기 위해서는 베타 형태의 SiC 나노입자를 활용할 경우가 위스커 입자를 이용한 경우보다 높은 계면 강도를 나타냈다.

  • Three kinds of reation-bonded SiC that reaction-bonded SiC(RBSC), RBSC reinforced by carbon fiber and RBSC reinforced by activated carbon fiber were prepared for investigating the change of erosion properties. The characteristics of microstructures and the phases have been investigated by using scanning electron microscope and XRD analysis. The hardness test, toughness test and erosion test were camed out. In the cases with no carbon fiber, those kind of specimens had the highest result of hardness test and the lowest result of toughness test. With the increase of carbon fiber content, The hardness and the weight loss were decreased but the toughness was increased in the cases with carbon fiber In the cases with activated carbon fiber those specimens had the highest result of toughness test and the lowest result of hardness test with 30% contents of activated carbon fiber.

  • Silicon carbide and its composites are being considered as a nuclear fuel cladding material for LWR nuclear reactors because they have a low neutron absorption cross section, low hydrogen production under accident conditions, and high strength at high temperatures. The SiC composite cladding tube considered in this study consists of three layers, monolith CVD SiC - $SiC_f$/SiC composite -monolith CVD SiC. The volume fraction of SiC fiber and surface roughness of the composite layer affect mechanical and corrosion properties of the cladding tube. In this study, various types of SiC fiber preforms with tubular shapes were fabricated by a filament winding method using two types of Tyranno SA3 grade SiC fibers with 800 filaments/yarn and 1600 filaments/yarn. After chemical vapor infiltration of the SiC matrix, the surface roughness and fiber volume fraction were measured. As filament counts were changed from 800 to 1600, the surface roughness increased but the fiber volume fraction decreased. The $SiC_f$/SiC composite with a bamboo-like winding pattern has a smaller surface roughness and a higher fiber volume fraction than that with a zigzag winding pattern.

  • The organic-inorganic composite membrane in polymer exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) have several fascinating technological advantages such as a proton conductivity, thermal stability and mechanical properties. As the inorganic filler, silicon carbide (SiC) fiber have been used in various fields due to its unique properties such as thermal stability, conductivity, and tensile strength. In this study, composite membrane was successfully fabricated by modified-silicon carbide fiber. Modified process, as a novel process in SiC, takes reaction by phosphoric acid after oxidation process (generated homogeniusly $SiO_2$ layer on SiC fiber). The mechanical property which was conducted by tensile test of the 5wt% modified-$SiO_2@SiCf$ composite membrane was better than that of Aquivion casting membrane as well as ion cxchange capacity(IEC) and proton conductivity. In addition, the single cell performance was observed that the 5wt% modified-$SiO_2@SiCf$ composite membrane was approximately $0.2A/cm^2$ higher than that of a Aquivion casting electrolyte membrane and electrochemical impedance was improved with the charge transfer resistance and membrane resistance.

$Al_2O_{3f}/SiC_p$ 금속복합재료의 섬유방향과 혼합비가 윤활마모특성에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Fiber Orientations and Hybrid Ratios on Lubricant Tribological Characteristics of $Al_2O_{3f}/SiC_p$ Reinforced MMCs)

  • 가압주조법으로 제조한 $Al_2O_3$ 섬유와 SiC 입자 혼합 보강 금속복합재료(MMCs)의 상온과 고온에서 윤활마모특성을 조사하였다. 마모시험은 거리와 온도의 변화에 따라 속도를 고정시켜 25Kgf의 하중하에서 수행하였으며 MMCs의 시험편은 가압의 수평(PR)방향과 수직(N)방향에서 채취하였다. 혼합비의 영향을 관찰한 결과 상온에서는 20%섬유만 보강한 PR방향 MMCs의 마모거동은 N방향 보다 우수한 결과를 보였으나, 혼합보강 MMCs는 반대로 나타내었다. 고온($100^{\circ}C$)에는 모든 MMCs에서 PR방향의 마모거동이 N 방향보다 우수한 결과를 보인 것은 보강재와 마찰면간 윤활필름이 강호작용에 기인한 것으로 밝혀졌다. $150^{\circ}C$에서는 혼합 MMCs의 마모거동은 온도영향으로 PR이 N 보다 우수한 결과를 보였다.

탄화규소 나노섬유의 제조 및 물성 (Preparation and Characterization of Silicon Carbide Nanofiber)

  • Carbon nanofibers with an average diameter of 100nm were reacted with SiO vapor generated from a mixture of Si and SiO2 to produce silicon carbide nanofibers at temperature ranging 1200∼1500$^{\circ}C$ under vacuum. The nanofiber reacted at 1200$^{\circ}C$ for two hours consisted of silicon carbide with an average crystallite size of 10-20nm, amorphous silica and a significant amount of unreacted carbon. The surface area of silicon carbide nanofiber, obtained after removal of amorphous silica and unreacted carbon from converted carbon nanofibers at 1200$^{\circ}C$, was as high as 150㎡/g. With increasing reaction temperature to 1500$^{\circ}C$, the surface area was decreased to 14㎡/g. Growth of SiC crystallite size with increasing conversion temperature of carbon nanofiber was confirmed from Scherrer formula using the (111) diffraction line and TEM images of converted carbon nanofibers.

Al-합금의 단열섬유판 반응침투에 의한 $Al_2O_3$-세라믹스의 형성 (Formation of $Al_2O_3$-Ceramics by Reactive Infiltration of Al-alloy into Insulation Fiber Board)

  • Al2O3/metal composites were fabricated by oxidation and reaction of molten Al-alloy into two types of commercial Al2O3-SiO2 fibrous insulation board. The growth rate, composition and microstructure of these materials were described. An AlZnMg(7075) alloy was selected as a parent alloy. Mixed polycrystalline fiber and glass phase fiber were used as a filler. The growth surface of an alloy was covered with and without SiO2. SiO2 powder was employed as a surface dopant to aid initial oxidation of Al-alloy. Al-alloy, SiO2, fiber block and growth inhibitor CaSiO3 were packed sequentially in a alumina crucible and oxidized in air at temperature range 90$0^{\circ}C$ to 120$0^{\circ}C$. The growth rate of composite layer was calculated by measuring the mass increasement(g) per unit surface($\textrm{cm}^2$). XRD and optical microscope were used to investigate the composition and phase of composites. The composite grown at 120$0^{\circ}C$ and with SiO2 dopant showed rapid growth rate. The growth behavior differed a little depending on the types of fiber used. The composites consist of $\alpha$-Al2O3, Al, Si and pore. The composite grown at 100$0^{\circ}C$ exhibited better microstructure compared to that grown at 120$0^{\circ}C$.
