  • Ultrasonic, infrared, and CCD cameras are typically used to obtain location information, but the error range is large depending on the surrounding environment. However, IR-UWB can be used for distance and location measurement both indoors and outdoors, Technology. It is possible to determine the existence and distance of an object by emitting a short signal width in units of 1 ns and using a reflected signal and a time delay. It is also possible to measure the exact position within the cm error irrespective of the environmental conditions. Since it processes a large number of reflection signals, we try to measure three-dimensional spatial coordinates by improving the noise by using the mean value of the signal, the band pass filter and the FFT.

Mean Field Bias Correction of the Very-Short-Range-Forecast Rainfall using the Kalman Filter (Kalman Filter를 이용한 초단기 예측강우의 편의 보정)

  • This study applied the Kalman Filter for real-time forecasting the G/R (ground rain gauge rainfall/radar rainfall) ratio to correct the mean field bias of the very-short-range-forecast (VSRF) rainfall. The MAPLE-forecasted rainfall was used as the VSRF rainfall, also the methodology for deciding the G/R ratio was improved by evaluating the change of G/R ratio characteristics depending on the threshold and accumulation time. This analysis was done for the inland, mountain, and coastal regions, separately, for their comparison. As the results, more stable G/R ratio could be estimated by applying the threshold and accumulation time, whose forecasting accuracy could also be secured. The accuracy of the corrected rainfall forecasting by the forecasted G/R ratio was the best in the inland region but the worst in the coastal region.

  • Many short range weather radars with the low elevation search capability are needed for analysis and prediction of unusual weather changes or rainfall phenomena which occurs regionally. However, due to the characteristics of low elevation electromagnetic wave beam, it is highly probable that the received weather signals of these radars are contaminated by the ground and sea clutter. Since most of ground clutter appears around the very narrow low Doppler frequency region, it is somewhat easy to separate. However, the sea clutter removal is very difficult since it can occupy the broad Doppler frequency region according to weather conditions. Therefore, in this paper, the sea clutter removal capability is analyzed for a phased array weather radar which use vertical array elements for electronic elevation beam steering. Also, it is shown that the sea clutter removal can be achieved appropriately using the receiver beam forming technology in a phased array antenna.

Development of Meso-scale Short Range NWP System for the Cheju Regional Meteorological Office, Korea (제주 지역에 적합한 중규모 단시간 예측 시스템의 개발)

  • The operational meso-scale short range NWP system was developed for Cheju Regional Meteorological Office located at Cheju island, Korea. The Central Meteorological Service Center, KMA has reported the information on numerical weather prediction every 12 hours. But this information is not enough to determine the detail forecast for the regional meteorological office because the terrain of the Korean peninsula is very complex and the resolution of the numerical model provided by KMA headquarter is too coarse to resolve the local severe weather system such as heavy rainfall. LAPS and MM5 models were chosen for three-dimentional data assimilation and numerical weather prediction tools respectively. LAPS was designed to provide the initial data to all regional numerical prediction models including MM5. Synoptic observational data from GTS, satellite brightness temperature data from GMS-5 and the composite reflectivity data from 5 radar sites were used in the LAPS data assimilation for producing the initial data. MM5 was performed on PC-cluster based on 16 pentium CPUs which was one of the cheapest distributed parallel computer in these days. We named this system as Halla Short Range Prediction System (HSRPS). HSRPS was verified by heavy rainfall case in July 9, 1999, it showed that HSRPS well resolved local severe weather which was not simulated by 30 km MM5/KMA. Especially, the structure of rainfall amount was very close to the corresponding observation. HSRPS will be operating every 6 hours in the Cheju Regional Meteorological Office from April 2000.

  • 본고에서는 의료용, 보안용, 정밀거리 측위 등 다양한 분야에 응용이 가능한 근거리 고해상도 레이더 칩 기술에 대하여 소개한다. 먼저 근거리 고해상도 레이더 칩의 대표적인 구조와 동작원리에 대하여 기술하고 상용제품, 최신 논문에서 발표된 레이더 칩에 대하여 소개하였다. 고해상도를 얻기 위한 짧은 펄스 폭(나노초, 십억분의 1초)을 가지는 펄스를 송신하고 목표물을 맞고 되돌아온 에코 펄스를 고해상도로 수신하여 복원된 펄스로부터 얻어지는 거리정보로부터 신호처리 과정을 거쳐 고도화된 응용 분야에 따른 부가적인 정보를 얻는다. 수신기는 상관(correlation)법에 의한 수신 방식과 샘플링(sampling)에 의한 수신 방식으로 크게 나눌 수 있다. 끝으로 한국전자통신연구원에서 개발 중인 CMOS(Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) 기술을 이용한 근거리 레이더 칩의 목표 성능, 구조, 설계 및 측정 결과에 대하여 소개하였다.

  • 일정한 시간간격으로 제공되는 연속된 두 장의 레이더 반사도(합성 CAPPI) 자료의 최대 상관계수를 찾아 냄으로써 강수의 움직임을 산출하는 TREC(Tracking Radar Echoes by Correlation) 기법은 동일 고도의 레이더 반사도 자료를 이용하기 때문에 수평방향의 2차원이며, 대류성 구름체계에서 발생되는 수직 활동을 표현할 수 없는 한계성을 지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 여러 고도의 레이더 반사도 자료를 이용하여 기존의 TREC 기법을 이용한 단시간 예보모형을 개선하고자 하였다. 특정고도의 레이더 반사도를 이용하여 에코를 추적하는 TREC 기법의 단점을 보완하기 위하여 서로 다른 고도의 레이더 반사도를 이용함으로써 기존의 접근법보다 실제 강수의 움직임에 더욱 가깝도록 단시간 강우 예보 정확도를 개선하였다.

  • 연속된 두 장의 레이더 반사도(합성 CAPPI)를 이용하여 설정된 두 윈도우 사이의 최대 상관계수를 찾아 냄으로써 강수의 움직임을 파악하는 기존의 TREC(Tracking Radar Echoes by Correlation) 기법은 단지 통계적인 상관법을 이용하여 산출된 TREC 벡터를 외삽하기 때문에 강우 시스템의 이동양상을 물리적으로 표현하는데 한계를 가질 뿐만 아니라 강수가 직선운동을 하는 것처럼 묘사될 수밖에 없는 기법의 한계성을지니고 있다. 본 연구에서는 도플러 레이더로부터 생산되는 시선속도를 이용하여 바람장을 산출하고 이를 TREC 벡터와 연계시켜 단시간 예보모형을 개선하고자 하였다. 시선속도는 레이더로부터 멀어지거나 다가오는 물체의 속도성분이며, 이를 이용하여 강수 영역 내의 바람장을 산출할 수 있다. 이러한 바람장 정보와 연계한 TREC 벡터의 개선은 단시간 강우 예보모형의 개선을 통하여 짧은 시간에 급격한 발달하는 집중호우 등에 대한 보다 정확한 예보를 가능하게 한다.

  • Detecting a small threat object either fast moving or floating on shallow water presents a formidable challenge to shipboard sensor systems, which must determine whether or not to launch defensive weapons in a timely manner. An integrated multisensor concept is envisioned wherein the combined use of active and passive sensor is employed for the detection of short duration targets in dense ocean surface clutter to maximize detection range. The objective is to develop multisensor integration techniques that operate on detection data prior to track formation while simultaneously fusing contacts to tracks. In the system concept, detections from a low grazing angle search radar render designations to a sensor-search infrared sensor for target classification which in turn designates an active electro-optical sensor for sector search and target verification.

  • In this paper, a performance comparison between traditional TPN (true proportional navigation) guidance law and PPN(pure proportional navigation) guidance law is made, based on a short range surface-to-air missile simulation program. This simulation program has a nonlinear aerodynamic missile model, a roll stabilized autopilot, a nonlinear radar model, and a target model, According to the simulation results, the PPN guidance law has better performances than TPN guidance law under the condition of evasive target.

  • In this paper, an efficient defense strategy of single naval ship using short range anti-air missiles against the threat of multiple anti-ship missiles is suggested. The defense logic is based on the estimated future trajectory of anti-ship missiles by using current radar information. The logic is designed to maximize the range of interception of anti-ship missiles so that the chance of interception can be increased although the prior tries turn out to be fail. Basically, the decision making for the allocation of a defense missile is achieved by comparing the total kill probability and the estimated intercepting point. Performance of the proposed logic is investigated by nonlinear planar numerical simulations.
