  • In this paper present Autonomous Adaptive Digital Over Current Relay for distribution networks which acts autonomous setting using the short circuit impedance measured by relay of power systems. Automation of relay setting is one of the basic requirements for distribution automation, although manual relay setting is used at present. The short circuit impedance from a power source in distribution networks essential for the Autonomous Relay Setting changes frequently in distribution networks. In this paper the short circuit impedance is calculated with voltage and current measured in real time operation of digital relay using the Recursive Least Squares. A new method of digital relay setting is introduced using the the short circuit impedance and load current.

  • Since the voids occur at the CD stud welds, the mechanism of void formation and void reduction method are investigated in this work. It is speculated that the voids are formed because of high short-circuit current above 1000A. When the simple flow model is used to estimate the void trapping condition, the most voids are trapped at the weld mainly due to fast cooling rate of the CD stud weld. Since it is almost impossible to remove the voids completely, a method is proposed to reduce the void by decreasing the short-circuit current at the end of the arcing time. The experimental results show that the void is reduced by decreasing the short-circuit current to 1000A.

  • These days, the widespread use of sensitive loads and distributed generators makes the solid-state circuit breaker (SSCB) an essential component in power circuits to achieve a high power quality for AC Grids. In traditional AC SSCB using SCRs, some auxiliary mechanical devices are required to make the reclosing operation possible before fault recovery. However, the proposed AC SSCB can break quickly and then be reclosed without auxiliary mechanical devices even during the short-circuit fault. Moreover, its fault current breaking time is short and its SSCB reclosing operation is fast. This results in a reduction of the economic losses due to fault currents and power outages. Through simulations and experiments on short-circuit faults, the performance characteristics of the proposed AC SSCB are verified. A design guideline is also suggested to apply the proposed AC SSCB to various AC grids.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new structural AGC(Automatic Gain Control) circuit with extremely short settling time using high speed operation characteristics of a clipper. We investigated its operation characteristics in analysis. We also designed a burst-mode preamplifier for 1.25Gbps EPON systems using commercial foundry and investigated its characteristics by comparing the results of the designed and those of the analyzed. The characteristics of the designed circuit are in good agreement with those of the analyzed. As a result, it is shown that it is possible to realize extremely short settling time of under 1㎱.

  • This paper describes an improved short-circuit protection for a multilevel ac/dc power converter The output do power of the proposed converter can be disconnected from the load within several hundred microseconds at the instant of short-circuit fault. Once the fault has been cleared the dc power is reapplied to the load. The rising time of the do load voltage is as small as several hundred microseconds, and there is no overshoot of the dc voltage because the do output capacitors hold undischarged state. Therefore, the proposed converter can be used for a power supply, which requires a rapid disconnection of the load from the power supply in the case of a short circuit, as well as a rapid connection the load to the power supply after the clearance of the short circuit condition.

  • Coordination under short-circuit conditions is a systematic application of protective devices in the electrical power system, which, in response to a fault, will remove only a minimum amount of equipment from service. The objective is not only to minimize the equipment damage and process outage costs, but also to protect personnel from the effects of these failures. The coordination study of an electric power system consists of an organizes time-current study of all devices in series from the utilization device to the source. This study is a comparison of the time it takes the individual devices to operate when certain levels of normal or abnormal current pass through the protective devices. The objective of a coordination study is to determine the characteristics, ratings, and settings of overcurrent protective devices that will ensure that the minimum unfaulted load is interrupted when the protective devices isolate a fault or overload anywhere in the system. At the same time, the devices and settings selected should provide satisfactory protection against overloads on the equipment and interrupt short-circuit as rapidly as possible.

  • The effects of Ti addition in welding wire on the spatter generation and the droplet transfer phenomena were investigated. With increasing Ti content the spattering rate was decreased but the ratio of large size spatter (D $\geq$ 1. 0mm) was increased in both short circuit and globular transfer mode of $CO_2$welding. In short circuit transfer region, the arcing time was increased and the droplet transfer frequency was decreased with increasing Ti content In globular transfer region, the transition current and voltage to globular transfer was lowered and the welding condition region for stable globular transfer was widened with increasing Ti content.

  • The effect of S content in welding wires on spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena was studied. In MAG welding using 80%Ar-$20%CO_2$ shielding gas, spattering characteristics and droplet transfer phenomena were varied with S content of wire. Sulfur addition in wire reduced surface tension of droplet and weld pool, and made arc more stable in MAG welding. With increasing S content, the spattering ratio and the ratio of large size spatter ($d{\geq}1.0mm$) were reduced in short circuit transfer mode. In spray transfer mode, spattering ratio, however was increased when sulfur was added more than 0.020wt.% because surface tension of droplets and weld pool was reduced too much even though arc stability was improved.

  • Droplet transfer modes due to welding conditions and the effect of Ca in welding wire on droplet transfer were investigated. Droplet transfer mode in CO$_{2}$ welding was classified into 2 modes, that is, short circuit and globular transfer, with increasing welding current and voltage. With increasing Ca content in wire, repulsive pressure due to vaporization of Ca was considerably increased. In short circuit transfer region, arcing time was increased and droplet transfer cycle was decreased, with increasing Ca content. In globular transfer region, welding condition for globular transfer was lower current region, with increasing Ca content.

  • The main subject of this study is the construction of an automatic welding system that has the capability to trace the weld seam in GMA welding of lap joints. The system was composed of a vision sensor, moving torch, and personal computer(IBM-PC). In the developed vision sensor, an image was captured by the frame grabber at the time of short circuit during welding. The threshold method was adopted for determining the structured light and the central difference method for detecting the weld joint. And the seam tracing of the torch was performed by using the data regeneration algorithm. In this system using the image at the time of short circuit, weld seam tracking was performed without any relations to arc light and spatters.
