  • The shock absorber with magnetic effect is suggested for a lunar lander. The shock absorber consists of a metal tube, a piston rod, and several permanent magnets moved by a piston rod in the tube, and the shock energy can be dispersed and dissipated by magnetic effects such as the magnetic force existed between a metal and magnets and the eddy current effect generated by a relative motion with a conductor and magnets. Besides, the shock-absorbing effect similar to that of a coil spring can be obtained by arranging the magnets in line, which are facing the same polar each other. The device has a very simple structure and is usable in space due to the unnecessariness of any oil or gas. The shock absorber was designed and manufactured for experiments and its spring and damping characteristics were studied by the theoretical, analytical and experimental methods.

  • The shock absorber for vehicles is the important component to absorb the shock in driving. These essential components, piton and piston rod, must be made of S25C, S45C and SCM440 generally depending on kind of vehicles, precisely machined and assembled by the bolt. And it has been difficult to weld this sort of dissimilar materials. They could be unstable in the quality by the conventional arc welding. And also they have a lot of technical problems in manufacturing. But by the friction welding technique, it will be able to be made without such problems. These factors above necessitate nowadays the domestic development of the shock absorber by friction welding and a new approach of study on real-time quality evaluation by AE techniques.

  • The functions of shock absorbers are to dampen body, suspend motions, dissipate impact energy, and control tire force variation. During the operation, hydraulic oil is passed between the chambers via a flow restrictions. Therefore the damping force characteristics of shock absorber is determined by the characteristics of orifices and flow restrictions. The uncertainty in design variable affects the performance of suspension system strongly. But, the researches about the influence of uncertainty in design variable such as a fluid restriction's property of shock absorber, on the suspension system performance was hardly ever proposed. In this paper, we used statistical method of Latin Hypercube sampling, and the effects of design variables uncertainty on the performance of suspension system was presented.

  • Pyrotechnic shock or pyroshock is characterized as a transient vibration phenomena which shows large acceleration and high frequency range up to 10kHz during the operation of separation devices where explosives are used. During the flight of a launch vehicle, pyro-shock is mainly generated at several events such as satellite separation, fairing separation and stage separation. In this paper, characteristics of pyroshock are introduced briefly, and PEEK washer shock absorber is applied for the reduction of pyroshock in the high frequency range. With some electronic devices, reduction characteristic of pyroshock using washer type shock absorber are studied. Random vibration tests are also performed for the verification of vibrational characteristics.

  • Pyrotechnic separation devices have been widely used as holding and release mechanism for deployable appendage. However, pyro-shock can cause temporal or permanent damage on shock sensitive components such as electronics, mechanism, and brittle components. This study proposed a low-stiffness blade based passive shock absorber using a multi-layered stiffener laminated with viscoelastic acrylic tapes for reducing transmitted pyro-shock upon explosion of pyrotechnic separation devices. The multi-layered structure with viscoelastic tape has high-damping characteristics to effectively secure structural integrity of low-stiffness blades under the launch environment. The design effectiveness was verified through a shock test by dropping a pendulum. The structural integrity of the shock absorber under a launch environment was evaluated through structural analysis under load conditions with a deployable payload.

  • In this study, the failure mode and energy absorption capabilities of a composite shock absorber device, during an emergency landing are evaluated. The prototype has been installed and tested in laboratory simulating an emergency landing test condition. The crash absorber presents an innovative configuration able to reduce the loads transmitted to a helicopter fuselage during an emergency landing. It consists of a composite tailored tube installed on the landing gear strut. During an emergency landing this crash absorber system should be able to absorb energy through a pre-designed deformation. This solution, compared to an oleo-pneumatic shock absorber, avoids sealing checks, very high values of the shock absorber pressure, and results to be lighter, easy in maintenance, inspect and use. The activities reported in this paper have become an attractive research field both from the scientific viewpoint and the prospect of industrial applications, because they offer benefits in terms of energy absorbing, weight savings, increasing the safety levels, and finally reducing the costs in a global sense.

  • Main role of landing gear is to absorb the energy which is generated by aircraft lanidng and ground maneuvering. Generally, in order to absorb the impact energy during landing, oleo-pneumatic type shock absorber is used for aircraft landing gear. Oleo-pneumatic type shock absorber has a good energy absorbing efficiency and is light in weight because its structure is relatively simple. For the landing gear development, it is necessary to conduct drop test in order to verify shock absorbing performance. In the drop test, first, gas spring curve verification tests are conducted. Then, limit and reserve energy absorption drop tests are performed based on the STANAG 4671. The drop tests results with performance analysis results are presented.

Modeling of landing gear was conducted with MSC.ADAMS, and dynamic landing loads were analyzed based on ADS-29. Optimum landing loads were generated through adjustment of damping orifice and the analysis results were presented with various aircraft attitude.

Expressed and formulated shock through 'Runge-Kutta' method/impact response to nonlinear-vibration-equation of 1 degree of freedom for numerical analysis. Double half sine pulse of excitation used and analyzed result through spectrum response analysis here. Response of disc spring is compared to response of coil spring by changing $h_o/t$ ratio with computer simulation and the usage of disc spring is increased through analysis of effect of design factors. The purpose of this paper is that the shock response of disc spring is calculated through numerical simulation and to design the optimal absorber under the limited condition. And then, the isolation effect was analyzed through the shock test.
