Soldering technology has been used in electronic industry for a long time. However, due to solder fatigue characteristics, automotive electronics are searching the semi-permanent interconnection technology such as press-fit method. Press fit interconnection is a joining technology that mechanically inserts a press fit metal terminal into a through hole in a board, and induces a strong bonding by closely contacting the inner surface joining of the through hole by plastic deformation of press-fit terminal. In this paper, the bonding properties of press-fit interconnection are investigated with PCB hole size and surface finishes. In order to compare interconnection reliability between the press fit and soldering, the change in resistance of the press-fit and soldering joints was observed during thermal shock test. After thermal cycling, the failure modes are investigated to reveal the degradation mechanism both press-fit and soldering technology.

A numerical analysis has been conducted to determine the pitch thrust vectoring characteristics of a two-dimensional convergent divergent exhaust nozzle for supersonic aircraft application. The numerical analysis was done by using Fluent and verified by the experimental test results. Analysis was performed with pitch angle of $0^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ each at the ambient temperature condition. To see the effect of a ratio of pitch flap length and pitch flap height, the ratio was varied from 0.5 to 2.5. The numerical analysis shows that pitch thrust is changed greatly with pitch flap length. The big difference of the pitch thrust with pitch flap length is due to the shock interactions in the nozzle.

Auditory thresholds were determined by means of a conditioned response to sound stimuli at frequencies 80, 100, 200, 300, 500 and 800 Hz for a 10 black rock fish, Sebastes schlegeli. The conditioned response was a change of a cardiac rhythm. It was established through an electric shock as unconditioned stimulus, and could be monitored on an oscilloscope. A stable acoustic condition was obtained by suspending the fish in a small cage at fixed position in the test tank. The sensitive frequencies ranged from 80 Hz to about 800 Hz, showing the best frequency around 100 Hz where the mean threshold value was 90.5 dB. A gradual rise below 300 Hz and a relatively sharp turn above 500 Hz were indicated in the audiogram. The method presented here seemed to be useful for a rapid determination of the audiogram of fishes.
Objective : Peripheral nerve injuries occur mostly as a result of mechanical trauma. Due to the microvascular deterioration in peripheral nerve damage, it becomes challenging to remove free oxygen radicals. Gallic acid is a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory effects and a free radical scavenger. The purpose of the study is to show that gallic acid contributes to the restorative effect in mechanical nerve damage, considering its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Methods : Thirty male Sprague Dawley albino mature rats were included in the study. Ten of them constituted the control group, 10 out of 20 rats for which sciatic nerve damage was caused, constituted the saline group, and 10 formed the gallic acid group. Post-treatment motor functions, histological, immunohistochemical, and biochemical parameters of the rats were evaluated. Results : Compared to the surgery+saline group, lower compound muscle action potential (CMAP) latency, higher CMAP amplitude, and higher inclined plane test values were found in the surgery+gallic acid group. Similarly, a higher nerve growth factor (NGF) percentage, a higher number of axons, and a lower percentage of fibrosis scores were observed in the surgery+gallic acid group. Finally, lower tissue malondialdehyde (MDA) and higher heat shock protein-70 (HSP-70) values were determined in the surgery+gallic acid group. Conclusion : Gallic acid positively affects peripheral nerve injury healing due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. It has been thought that gallic acid can be used as a supportive treatment in peripheral nerve damage.
Agricultural corrugated fiberboard packaging boxes frequently experience damage due to loading and unloading, vibration during transport, and shock by dynamic distribution condition change. This study was carried out to estimate effect of vibration during distribution process on compression strength of corrugated fiberboard boxes for agricultural products. In order to identify the degradation caused by vibration, after box packaging the agricultural products(tangerine or cucumber), the natural frequencies of the packaging boxes were measured by varying the relative humidity(50, 70 and 90%) at 25℃ temperature. Various types of corrugated fiberboard boxes were packed with tangerines and cucumbers, and the PSD plot vibration tests were conducted by utilizing the actual vibration recording results of the Gyeongbu Expressway section between Seoul and Gimcheon. As a result of the experiment, the decrease in compression strength of the box was relatively low in DW-AB, and the decrease in compression strength of the SW-A 0201(RSC) type box was the highest at 20.49%. In particular, both SW-A and DW-AB showed low compression strength degradation rates for open folder type boxes. The moisture content varies depending on the type of the box or agricultural products, and the enclosed 0201(RSC) type box was generally higher than the open folder or bliss type box, which is believed to be the reason for the decrease in compression strength of RSC type box due to humidity. By the agricultural product, the percentage of decrease in compression strength of box packed with cucumbers was especially high.

In this study, a Ka-band waveguide rotary joint that can be applied to a millimeter-wave seeker is designed and fabricated. The proposed rotary joint maintains a low standing-wave ratio and low-loss characteristics, and has two rotary axes designed to enable azimuth and elevation rotation. The rotary joint is designed as a ridge-waveguide-type mode converter and a ${\lambda}/4$ choke structure to match the electromagnetic wave propagation mode between the spherical and circular waveguides. A performance test using a network analyzer and a high-power transmitter to assess vibration and shock were conducted. Results showed that the rotary joint had a very low standing-wave ratio of less than the maximum of 1.19:1 and an insertion loss of less than 0.80 dB at $F_C{\pm}500MHz$.

The activity and stability of the metal filter material Pt coated on NOx and soot oxidation were examined. The catalytic reaction test for NOx and soot were also performed independently and simultaneously. As a result, it showed the NO to $NO_2$ shift reaction with 20% conversion, NOx decomposition (about 10%) and perfect soot oxidation on the material Pt coated proceeded. Onset temperature of soot oxidation shift to lower temperature (about $30^{\circ}C$) by generated $NO_2$. The material also was less affected by thermal shock than $Pt/Al_2O_3$ or $Pt/TiO_3$ catalysts due to its stability of surface structure.

Recently, research attention has been focused on vibration-free vehicles to transport small numbers of expensive electronic products. Vibration-free vehicles can be used to transport expensive test equipment or semiconductors, mainly produced in the domestic IT industry, and can serve as a readily available transportation system for short driving distances due to the increased efficiency on narrow national highways. This study was aimed at developing a Z-Spring to minimize the vibration by installing an air spring instead of the plate spring applied to conventional freight cars and to prevent the damage of the loaded cargo from the shock occurring during movement. The mechanical properties (elastic modulus, tensile strength, and shear strength) of carbon fiber (CF) and glass fiber (GF) prepreg were derived, and ANSYS ACP PrepPost analyses were performed. It was observed that in the case of hybrid composites, the total deformation and equivalent stress are higher than that of CFRP; however, in terms of the unit cost, the hybrid Z-Spring is more inexpensive and durable compared to the GF.
Background and Objectives The ultimate goal in current skin rejuvenation practice is to achieve a good result with minimal pain and downtime. Nonablative skin rejuvenation (NSR) is one technique. The efficacy of the long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser (LPNDY) has not been assessed in NSR. Materials and Methods Three target areas were selected (bilateral cheeks and glabellar region) in six volunteer subjects. A LPNDY with an integral skin temperature monitor delivered three stacked shots to each target area (1064 nm, 12 mm spot, 13 J/cm2, 1 Hz) without any skin cooling or anesthesia. The skin temperature was recorded before, during, and after each set of shots using the system monitor and in real-time using a high-sensitivity (±0.001℃) near-infrared video camera. The skin reaction was observed with the naked eye, and pain and discomfort were assessed by the subjects during and after treatment. Results The subjects reported a mild feeling of heat with no discomfort during or after the test treatments. Mild erythema was observed around the treatment areas, without noticeable edema. A series of three ascending skin temperature stepwise peaks, with a decrease in skin temperature towards the baseline after the third shot, was observed consistently. The mean temperatures for shots 1, 2, and 3 for the cheeks were 39.5℃, 42.0℃, and 44.4℃, respectively, and for the glabella, 40.8℃, 43.9℃, and 46.2℃, respectively. Similar ranges were indicated on the system integral temperature monitor. Conclusion A set of three stacked pulses with the LPNDY at a low fluence achieved ideal dermal temperatures to achieve some dermal remodeling but without any downtime or adverse events. The temperature data from the integral thermal sensor matched the video camera measurements with practical accuracy for skin rejuvenation requirements. These data suggest that LPNDY would satisfy the necessary criteria to achieve effective NSR, but further studies will be needed to assess the actual results in clinical practice.

Recently, the shift to next-generation wide-bandgap (WBG) power semiconductor for electric vehicle is accelerated due to the need to improve power conversion efficiency and to overcome the limitation of conventional Si power semiconductor. With the adoption of WBG semiconductor, it is also required that the packaging materials for power modules have high temperature durability. As an alternative to conventional high-temperature Pb-based solder, Ag sintering die attach, which is one of the power module packaging process, is receiving attention. In this study, we will introduce the recent research trends on the Ag sintering die attach process. The effects of sintering parameters on the bonding properties and methodology on the exact physical properties of Ag sintered layer by the realization 3D image are discussed. In addition, trends in thermal shock and power cycle reliability test results for power module are discussed.
