영상처리에 의한 위상잠금 열화상기법의 최적화 연구 (Optimization of Lock-in Thermography Technique using Phase Image Processing)

  • This study examined the use of LIT (lock-in infrared thermography) to detect defects in the welded parts of ships and offshore structures. A quantitative analysis was used with the filtering and texture measurement of image processing techniques to find the optimized experimental condition. We verified the reliability of our methods by applying image processing techniques in order to normalize the evaluations of comparative images that showed a phase difference. In addition, it was found that a low to mid-range intensity of light exposure on the surface showed good results, whereas high exposure did not provide significant results. A lock-in frequency of around 0.1 Hz was satisfactory regardless of the intensity of the light source. In addition, making the integration time of the thermography camera inversely proportional to the intensity of the exposed light source during the experiment provided good results.

  • 선박, 해양구조물 또는 해상풍력 발전설비 하부구조와 같이 해양환경에서 사용되는 강구조물은 부식이 쉽게 발생한다. 본 연구에서는 실험을 통하여 희생전극으로 많이 사용되는 아연전극의 방식전위와 동등한 -1050mV vs. SCE에서 환경하중에 기인하는 부식피로균열 진전특성에 대하여 고찰하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 -1050mV vs. SCE의 음극방식이 해수환경중의 피로균열 진전에 미치는 영향에 대해 합성해수중에서 파랑주기를 고려하여 실험적 고찰을 실시하였다. 음극방식에 의한 방식법은 부식을 차단하지만 과도한 방식은 화학반응에 의하여 수소를 발생시키며, 또한 석회질퇴적물을 발생시킨다. 피로균열진전율은 실험초기에는 해수부식환경하에서의 진전율보다 빠른구간이 나타났다. 그리고 균열길이가 증가하여 응력확대계수 K가 커질수록 균열의 진전율은 해수중의 피로균열진전율보다 느려지는 현상이 나타났다. 그러나 대기중의 균열진전속도보다는 항상 빠른 진전속도를 나타내었다.

자유수면과 움직이는 벽면 사이에 놓인 원형 실린더 주위의 층류 유동구조 (Laminar Flow Structures Near a Circular Cylinder in between a Free-Surface and a Moving Wall)

  • The present study numerically investigates the interaction between a free-surface and flow around a circular cylinder over a moving wall. In order to simulate the flow past the circular cylinder over a moving wall near a free-surface, this study has adopted the direct-forcing/fictitious domain (DF/FD) method with the level set method in the Cartesian coordinates. Numerical simulation is performed for a Reynolds numbers of 100 in the range of $0.25{\leq}g/D{\leq}2.00$ and $0.5{\leq}h/D{\leq}2.00$, where g/D and h/D are the gaps between the cylinder and a moving wall and the cylinder and a free-surface normalized by cylinder diameter D, respectively. According to g/D and h/D, the vortex structures have been classified into three patterns of the two-row, one-row, steady elongation. In general, both of g/D and h/D have the large values which mean the cylinder is far away from the wall and the free-surface, two-row vortex structure forms in the wake. When g/D decreases, the two-row vortex structure gradually transfers into the one-row vortex structure. When the g/D reveals the critical value below which the flow becomes steady state, resulting in the steady elongation vortex.

  • 본 논문에서는 해양레저분야에서의 현재 복합재 적용 현황과 33피트급 아메리카스컵 훈련용 세일링 요트 개발에 대해 기술한다. 항공분야와 달리 해양레저 분야에서의 복합재료는 최근에서야 적용 및 사용이 되기 시작했다. 다양한 해양레저 구조물 중에서도 특히, 아메리카스컵 세일링 경주 요트는 빠른 속도를 내야 하기 때문에 경량화 및 높은 기계적 성능이 요구되고 이에 따라 경주용 요트를 건조함에 있어 탄소섬유의 사용은 필수적이다. 탄소섬유강화 플라스틱 경주용 요트 제작 과정을 정립하기 위해 탄소 돛대와 탄소 요트 선체에 대한 최적화 설계와 생산 공법에 대해 논의되었다. 최종적으로 이렇게 제작된 탄소섬유강화복합재 세일링 요트는 운항시험을 통해 경주용 요트로써의 높은 성능을 보여주었다.

A new method of predicting hotspot stresses for longitudinal attachments with reduced element sensitivities

  • For the complicated structural details in ships and offshore structures, the traditional hotspot stress approaches are known to be sensitive to the element variables of element topologies, sizes, and integration schemes. This motivated to develop a new approach for predicting reasonable hotspot stresses, which is less sensitive to the element variables and easy to be implemented the real marine structures. The three-point bending tests were conducted for the longitudinal attachments with the round and rectangular weld toes. The tests were reproduced in the numerical simulations using the solid and shell element models, and the simulation technique was validated by comparing the experimental stresses with the simulated ones. This paper considered three hotspot stress approaches: the ESM method based on surface stress extrapolation, the Dong's method based on nodal forces along a weld toe, and the proposed method based on nodal forces perpendicular to an imaginary vertical plane at a weld toe. In order to study the element sensitivities of each method, 16 solid element models and 8 shell element models were generated under the bending and tension loads, respectively. The element sensitivity was analyzed in terms of Stress Concentration Factors (SCFs) in viewpoints of two statistical quantities of mean and bias with respect to the reference SCFs. The average SCFs predicted by the proposed method were remarkably in good agreement with the reference SCFs based on the experiments and the ship rules. Negligibly small Coefficients of Variation (CVs) of the SCFs, which is measure of statistical bias, were drawn by the proposed method.

Ferrite-Bainite dual phase 강의 피로균열진전 특성 평가 (A Study of Fatigue Crack Growth Behaviour for Ferrite-Bainite Dual Phase Steel)

  • With the recent increase in size of ships and offshore structures, there are more demand for thicker plates. As the thickness increases, it is known that fatigue life of the structures decrease. To improve the fatigue life, post weld treatments techniques, such as toe grinding, TIG dressing and hammer peening, are typically employed. However, these techniques require additional construction time and production cost. Therefore, it is of crucial interest steels with longer fatigue crack growth life compared to conventional steels. This study investigates fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) behaviours of conventional EH36 steel and Ferrite-Bainite dual phase EH36 steel (F-B steel). F-B steel is known to have improved fatigue performance associated with the existence of two different phases. Ferrite-Bainite dual phase microstructures are obtained by special thermo mechanical control process (TMCP). FCGR behaviours are investigated by a series of constant stress-controlled FCGR tests. Considering all test conditions (ambient, low temperature, high stress ratio), it is shown that FCGR of F-B steel is slower than that of conventional EH36 steel. From the tensile tests and impact tests, F-B steel exhibits higher values of strength and impact energy leading to slower FCGR.

확장 유한 요소법(XFEM) J-적분을 이용한 노후 순시선의 균열 성장 수명 예측 (Prediction of Crack Growth Lives of an Aged Korean Coast Guard Patrol Ship based on Extended Finite Element Method(XFEM) J-Integral)

  • The Newman-Raju formula and contour integral-based finite element analyses(FEAs) have been widely used to assess crack growth rates and residual lives at crack locations in ships or offshore structures, but the Newman-Raju formula is known to be less accurate for the complicated weld details and the conventional FEA-based contour integral approach needs concentrated efforts to construct FEA models. Recently, an extended finite element method(XFEM) has been proposed to reduce those modeling efforts with reliable accuracy. Stress intensity factors(SIFs) from the approaches such as the Newman-Raju formula, conventional FEA-based J-integral, and XFEM-based J-integral were compared for an infinitely long plate with a propagating elliptic crack. It was concluded that the XFEM approach was far reliable in terms of prediction ability of SIFs. Assuming a 25 year-aged coast guard patrol ship had the prescribed cracks at the bracket toes attached to longitudinal stiffeners in way of deck and bottom, SIFs were derived based on the three approaches. To obtain axial tension loads acting on the longitudinal stiffeners, long term hull girder bending moments were assumed to obey Weibull distribution of which two parameters were decided from a reference (DNV, 2014). For the complicated weld details, it was concluded that the XFEM approach could cost-effectively and accurately estimate the crack growth rates and residual lives of ship structures.

탄템 GMA 용접공정의 표면비드높이 예측을 위한 STACO모델 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on Development of STACO Model to Predict Bead Height in Tandem GMA Welding Process)

  • One of the main challenges of the automatic arc welding process which has been widely used in various constructions such as steel structures, bridges, autos, motorcycles, construction machinery, ships, offshore structures, pressure vessels, and pipelines is to create specific welding knowledge and techniques with high quality and productivity of the production-based industry. Commercially available automated arc welding systems use simple control techniques that focus on linear system models with a small subset of the larger set of welding parameters, thereby limiting the number of applications that can be automated. However, the correlations of welding parameters and bead geometry as welding quality have mostly been linked by a trial and error method to adjust the welding parameters. In addition, the systematic correlation between these parameters have not been identified yet. To solve such problems, a new or modified models to determine the welding parameters for tandem GMA (Gas Metal Arc) welding process is required. In this study, A new predictive model called STACO model, has been proposed. Based on the experimental results, STACO model was developed with the help of a standard statistical package program, MINITAB software and MATLAB software. Cross-comparative analysis has been applied to verify the reliability of the developed model.

  • 외부경계층 수직 날의 마찰저항 저감 기구를 규명하기 위하여 회류수조에서 시간분해 입자영상유속계로 측정된 비정상 유동장에 POD 분석을 실시하였다. 최근의 PIV 결과에서는 수직날 평면 및 수직날 사이 평면에서 각각 2.73%, 7.95%의 마찰저항 저감효과가 발견되었다. 본 연구에서는 수직날 배열이 난류조직구조에 미치는 영향을 POD 방법을 통하여 분석하였다. 난류유동의 조직적인 와구조가 수직날에 의하여 절단, 변형되고 비정상 거동이 난류경계층에서의 마찰저항 저감 기구와 밀접하게 관련된 것으로 관찰되었다.

전진비가 추진기 후류에 미치는 영향 (Effect of the Advance Ratio on the Evolution of Propeller Wake)

  • The present study numerically investigated the effect of the advance ratio on the wake characteristics of the marine propeller in the propeller open water test. Therefore, a wide range of the advance ratio(0.2${\kappa}-{\omega}$SST Model are considered. The three-dimensional vortical structures of tip vortices are visualized by the swirl strength, resulting in fast decay of the tip vortices with increasing the advance ratio. Furthermore, to better understanding of the wake evolution, the contraction ratio of the slip stream for different advance ratios is extracted from the velocity fields. Consequently, the slip stream contraction ratio decreases with increasing the advance ratio and successively the difference of the slip stream contraction ratio between J=0.2 and J=0.8 is about 0.1R.
