This paper aims to understand and analyze the mega-trends such as trends towards larger vessels due to an increasing trade volume, accordingly fewer port calls, strategic alliances and M&A Increasing degree of concentration through M&A activities in shipping industry results in a decreasing number of shipping finns with an increasing share in the world shipping capacity. But competition is strongly increasing on main trunk routes. Therefore, shipping concentration directly leads to further concentration of port traffic in fewer and larger ports with an increasing competition among neighboring ports.

항만은 바다와 육지의 관문으로서 기능하여 왔다. 따라서 그 기능을 검토할 때, 타 항만과 해운네트워크 그리고 배후지와 내륙네트워크에 대한 검토가 필요하다. 1998년부터 운영을 시작한 광양항-컨테이너부두-은 비교적 짧은 운영기간에도 불구하고 거점항만으로 발돋움하고 있다. 이 연구는 우선 우리나라 항만의 선박운항 스케줄과 해운네트워크의 중심성지수를 이용하여, 광양항의 글로벌 해운네트워크 구축과정과 네트워크 확장 특징을 도출하였다. 광양항의 내륙네트워크는 트럭운송, 철도운송, 연안운송을 중심으로 배후권과 연결망을 확장하여 왔으나, 연안운송 중단(2004), 연안운송 재개(2009)와 재중단(2012년)의 사례에서처럼 다양성에서 취약성을 나타내고 있다. 2000년대 들어 평택항, 울산항 그리고 군산항에서 해운과 내륙 네트워크 확장은 지역물량을 둘러싼 항만 간 경쟁을 가열시켰다. 한편 광양항의 운영은 삼성전자 등 제조업의 이전에 간접적으로 영향을 주었던 것으로 사료되지만, 컨테이너항만 운영에 따른 제조업의 지역적 분포 변화는 차후 심도 있는 연구를 필요로 하는 주제이다.

Decision Science or Decision Analysis can be described as a scientific methodolog to provide suitable quantitative information for the decision maker to be able to selected the best feasible alternative on the given decision environment and thus we can say that where there are decision problems, there needs the decision analysis to be applied to them. International shipping is generally said to be the cheapest and most widely used means of transport in international trade and each of the hundreds of seaport. So far as the decision makings in the shipping and port transportation are concerned, of real importance is to understand what the decision problems in each of shipping and port transportation really are and to recognize the meaning of relevance between shipping and seaport in the outworn phrase, that is to say, "The chain is as strong as its weakest link." This paper is intended to present a literature survey on the applied decision analysis to shipping and port transportation problems which have actually been involved in the wide variety of decision environment. At first, the author suggests four divisional framework such as decision analysis in each field of Shipping Economics, Management and Operations of Shipping, Port Economics, and Port Operation and Management, according to the main concern of the decision environment, and then the literature surveys on those four major divisions are described including the problems and solution approaches in each case. The author concludes the paper with the comment on the need of joint research around this area by citing the phrase of "a process of updating the decision makers' intuitions."s' intuitions."quot;

The presence of the Fourth Industrial Revolution is omniscient, led by full force emergence of technologies that make biological, physical, and digital worlds borderless. All industries which jump on the bandwagon, can observe convergence and merging of bushiness happening within, between and across industries. As the shipping and port logistics industry is said to be in eye of this storm, the purpose of this study is to investigate the shipping and port logistics industry's awareness regarding 4th IR, as well to identify necessary countermeasures in responding to progression of this trend. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) methodology was then used to compare the importance of four phases of countermeasures, reviewed by experts in the field. Results showed that countermeasures should be first orchestrated to the 'Merging and Integration of Inter-industry', then followed by 'P reemptive Introduction of Advanced Technology', 'Expansion of Intra-industry Businesses', and eventually 'Automation, Unmanned Technology'. Last but not least, four phases of countermeasures which should be introduced and executed one phase after another, are outlined for the shipping and port logistics industry to boost its competitiveness in addressing this progressive trend.

The government of Busan Metropolitan City conducted the "Survey on Shipping and Port Logistics Companies in Busan" between May and December, 2000. This was the first comprehensive survey of Busan Port conducted from the perspective of regional & industrial economics. The objective of the survey was to find out the level of influence of the shipping and port logistics industry on the regional economy of Busan, and to obtain base data for use in establishing an actual promotion program. The survey acquired information about human and physical resources, management conditions and consciousness of the industry, In addition, the study analyzed the survey data. The results of the analysis showed a method of creating added value in support of the marketing activities of the companies, and indicated methods of achieving systematic and sustainable promotion. The government of Busan City shall develop an e-Logistics infrastructure which can deliver a synopsis and intelligent information to people and companies in the industry by the end of this year. The information system would be of great help for people who may not be familiar with Busan's port and shipping industry, particularly international shipping companies. This will result in an Increase of trade and exchange in the shipping and port logistics industry, resulting in the generation of increased added value within the near future.

본 연구에서는 항만의 주요고객인 선사를 대상으로, 국외선사와 국내선사로 세분화하여 속성의 중요도와 항만 선호도 차이를 비교분석하였다. 컨조인트 분석 결과 국내선사와 국외선사 간의 항만선호도에서 분명한 차이를 보였으며, 이러한 차이는 기항지와 환적항에서 동시에 나타났다. 국외선사들은 환적항으로서 상하이항을 가장 높게 평가했지만, 국내선사들은 부산항을 상하이항보다 높게 평가했다. 또한, 기항지 선호도 비교에서도 비슷한 결과를 나타냈다. 이러한 연구결과는 국내외 선사에 따라 항만 선호도가 다르기 때문에 집단별로 구분하여 평가할 필요가 있음을 의미한다. 또한, 이를 바탕으로 타항만에 비해 경쟁위위에 있는 부산항의 선호도를 유지하기 위해서는 지속적인 목표(Target) 마케팅이 필요하며, 주요 목표(Target)는 항만의 주요 고객인 선사임을 암시한다.

The world economy has came into unlimited competition with globalization since 1990. Opening markets to the world is in progress through the expansion of world free trade and internationalization of multinational enterprises. In the maritime transportation for world trade, shipping companies pursue "Hub & Spoke" strategy so a port which is not able to be located as a hub port is degraded as a feeder port. To attract shipping companies, it is necessary for existing ports to provide differentiated service. This paper devises marketing strategies for a competitive port after evaluating relation among the factors affecting port selection when a shipping company chooses a port of call. On the basis of determinants derived from existing researches, we study the relation as well as importance among the factors of port selection.

해외 해운항만물류시장의 확대 및 진출에 따라 우리나라 선진 해운항만물류분야의 기술 이전을 위한 연수프로그램 수요가 증가하고 있다. 그러나 현재 시행되고 있는 해운항만물류분야 연수프로그램은 단기적인 성과는 있지만 국내 물류기업이 해외시장에 진출하는데 활용도가 매우 낮다. 따라서, 본 연구는 국내 물류기업의 해외진출 현황을 살펴보고 현재 추진중인 연수프로그램의 운영 실태와 문제점을 분석하여 국내 해운항만물류기업이 성공적으로 해외시장에 진출할 수 있는 연수프로그램 활용 방안을 제안하고자 한다.

After all-round analysis on the cooperation and development between ports and shipping lines, the author presents the running model of ports and shipping lines in Far East, which is the integration of operation between ports and shipping lines (namely integration of logistics service network). The world of container shipping and container terminal business is changing and container ports need to know what the changes are in order to plan how to respond. In particular, the container transport industry has noticed two major developments such as globalization and consolidation. The purpose of this paper is to review the current trend towards globalization and consolidation of container liner shipping and container terminal business. It also investigates the impact of these market developments on container ports and presents its implications for port development, management and operation, and port competition policy. According to the discussion of this paper a greater exercise of market power of container terminal operators will have negative impacts on international trade and national economy, especially port users, including container lines, exporters and importers. An empirical evidence on the exercise of market power is required to develop competition rules on market dominance at a national and international level. This paper suggests 'port coopetition' as a solution for smaller and regional container terminal operators to survive in a competitive business environment.
